Live television can be risky. Some newscasters are able to remain calm, cool, and collected after a mishap and others can't seem to keep it together. There are tons of blooper videos, but today I'm focusing on falls. People stumble over words all the time, but it's not every day that you see an on-air fall!

It can also suck even if you aren't the one who had the blooper because you can't laugh or freak out. I don't know how the cameramen and other newscasters keep a straight face. I'm definitely not fit for live TV!

If you missed the videos of kids getting hit in the head with balls, you should check that out for more laughs.

Reporter Falls Off Skateboard

Honestly, why would you try to skateboard on live TV without any skating experience? She totally asked for it. TJ doesn't even try to catch her or help her up!

Reporter Gets Hit by Sled

This flip is almost too perfect. Why didn't someone from the entire crew suggest moving further away from the sledders? Look at how far his "trusty stopwatch" flies. Yes, that was a bad idea, sir.

Reporter Falls Down a Snowy Hill

I can't believe the cameraman doesn't have any reaction. He doesn't even cut away or yell to see if the guy is OK. The camera seems to jiggle a little, so I think the cameraman is quietly laughing.

Pictures & Videos of Birds Yawning

As a bird lover and owner, I may be a little biased when I say that a yawning bird is one of the cutest things you'll ever see. But really, it is. Below, I've compiled a number of images and clips that show birds (including babies) yawning.

This baby cockatiel looks a bit like a yawning, uncooked chicken wing:

Judging by the fact that he can't stop yawning, I'm guessing this adult cockatiel is probably viewing this thread. If it hasn't made you yawn yet, this video will do the trick.

Even yawning, these bald eagles look kind of terrifying.

This Rose-Breasted Cockatoo looks awfully alert to be yawning.

This may be the laziest sun conure ever.

This image of Bluebell yawning comes from The Bird Forums.

The Dog-Riding Rodeo Monkey

I've never been much of a rodeo fan, but I'd pay good money to get a first-hand look at this dog-riding rodeo monkey. According to the video, the 21-year-old capuchin monkey, Whiplash, is a complete natural when it comes to dog-riding. He's been riding his canine friends for over 18 years now, and they're currently on tour in Texas.

For more pictures of Whiplash, check out his homepage, Whiplash Rides. I've gotta say, he's a pretty snazzy dresser.

And if you still can't get enough of Whiplash, check out his performances in the Taco John's commercials 20/20 Tacos, Nachos Navidad, and Ride Little Monkey Ride.

Everyone Fights

You've heard of Everyone Poops? Well, this post is "Everyone Fights". People aren't the only ones who can be excessively violent with one another (although we do have certain advantages that other animals don't, like advanced reasoning skills). We give you:

1. Cat Fight: When you combine the clever intro with the cats' rapid-fire boxing techniques, you get one of the most entertaining cat fight videos I've ever come across.

2. Dog Fight: We're not fans of Michael-Vick-style dog fights. That's just sick. EPF Extreme Poodle Fight however, is quite possibly the prissiest dog fight you'll ever watch.

When we saw this story, our first thought was that there is no way that a snake could be a cuddly pet that you would hug and love and RIDE ON. The video below proves otherwise. Apparently, the young boy and the python have grown up together and they're best friends. The fact that the snake lets the boy play with him so roughly is completely mind-blowing.

PDA Pandas

Pandas are well-known for their low sex drives, especially in captivity. The couple below has figured out how to keep the fire burning, though, and they're proving to be quite an attraction at the Tokyo zoo where they live. Apparently, they kiss for roughly an hour each day. Their mushy behavior is particularly interesting in light of the fact that Red Pandas are typically solitary animals who seek partners only during the mating season.

During a recent brainstorming session here at Vat19, it was decided that the product videos don't provide our fearless leader, Jamie, with enough opportunities to embarrass himself on camera. And so, the Vat19 Soapbox was born.

If you're easily offended, you may want to skip this one. Otherwise, marvel at what sounds an awful lot like a Chris Rock impression around the 13 second mark. Yes, that may be the first and only time you'll ever see it attempted in a cow hat.

The Worst How-To Videos on the Web

10. How to Find Music that You Like: There's a reason this video has over 200,000 views, and it has nothing to do with what they're teaching.

9. How to Make a T-Skirt: Barring shipwreck on a deserted island, there is no good reason to do what this tutorial is suggesting.

The Curiously Awesome Cat Man

Everyone knows that animals can do amazing things. Dogs can save lives, sniff out bombs, and find illegal drugs. Birds can deliver wartime messages, mimic speech, and even pry beers open with their beaks. Fish...well, fish don't do much, but they can be pretty tasty so they get a pass. Cats, on the other hand, aren't good for much of anything. Right?

Wrong. Cats may actually be the smartest of all animals, but they've been fooling us for years, pretending to be incapable so we'll let their laziness slide. They're friendly enough that we let them hang around, but they really don't serve much purpose. It's not likely that your cat will maul an intruder or locate you in a collapsed building. When the dust settles, you'll probably find him sitting on a windowsill sleeping. Most cats won't even wear a leash so you can take them to the park to help you pick up dates.

Most of us just assume that they can't be trained. The Cat Man knows better. He's been performing with his well-trained cats for over 25 years. Below, check out a clip of his show.

On a side note, I can't be the only person in the world who thinks that he bears a striking resemblance to Russell Hitchcock, the lead singer of the 80s duo, Air Supply.

8 Knots You Should Know

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)

Whether you're doing it to secure a boat, scale a mountain, survive the apocalypse, or bind a close adult companion, everyone should know how to tie a few basic knots. The video below is an excerpt from Vat19's own Encyclopedia of Boating Tips DVD.

The content is definitely directed to boaters, but that doesn't make the instruction any less accurate. It's like being in the Scouts for about 2 and a half minutes.
