Professional Reviews

"...this is an overall enjoyable, very comprehensive, and affordable presentation that is likely to circulate well in public libraries." --Video Librarian

At three and a half hours, this DVD certainly is encyclopedic, featuring chapters on safety, basic skills, maintenance, navigation, electronics, yachts, and water sports, each with its own subchapters, such as "history of yachting" or "galvanic corrosion."

Backed by an extensive array of illustrations (from computer-generated graphics to charts and diagrams) and good cinematography (with underwater segments adding perspective), the best aspects of The 2003 Encyclopedia of Boating Tips consist of experts in their fields (an instructor from the American Sailing Academy, for example).

...this is an overall enjoyable, very comprehensive, and affordable presentation that is likely to circulate well in public libraries. Recommended.

"This is an outstanding example of a DVD reference work; it is easy to navigate and full of useful and well-presented information at a very affordable price." --School Library Journal

This DVD reference work is packed with over three-and-a-half hours of detailed information about navigating both sail-driven and motored boats. The easy-to-follow menus break the subject into nine basic sections: The Yacht, Safety, Basic Skills, Maintenance, Navigation, Tables and Graphs, A Cruise to the Exumas, Electronics, and Water Sports. Submenus cover hundreds of boating facts and tips on outfitting, operating, and maintaining boats as well as sailing them. The coverage of each topic includes narration, video segments, 2-D and 3-D animations, and a variety of graphcs, charts, and text. Other features include a 30-minute cruise by ASA-certified instructor Art Safford III, a 26-minute visit to Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park in the Bahamas, and tournament bass fisher Larry Nealy on an outback trip crammed with fishing tips. Narrator Sandy Miller explains each topic in clear and concise language and defines terms as needed. Viewers whose computers have a DVD-ROM drive can access additional text information.

This is an oustanding example of a DVD reference work; it is easy to navigate and full of useful and well-presented information at a very affordable price. Highly recommended for public libraries and all nautical collections.
