"These are great projects for a rainy day or play date or for just plain doing instead of simply sitting there and watching TV." It’s like having an art teacher come to your house! These are great projects for a rainy day or play date or for just plain doing instead of simply sitting there and watching. Cherie Lynn shows kids how to do 30 projects. Some are made with tissue paper and modge podge glue, some with model magic and scissors and foam board, others with something as simple as weaving paper and turning it into a mask! Be forewarned, Lynn uses a hot glue gun for some of her work where staples would do—especially with young kids. Our favorite was the Funky Line drawings done with pens and paper. You can print out directions and most projects will work well with 5 & up. For older kids, see her World Art. 10 & up.--Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Best DVD Award - Platinum

"Highly recommended." --Video Librarian
Forget rainy days! With tens of thousands of adult volunteers desperately seeking ways to entertain kids in after-school recreation groups, summer reading programs, vacation Bible school, scouting programs, etc., this reasonably priced DVD with 13 basic projects can be adapted for a variety of younger audiences--regardless of the weather. All are simple scissors/paper/glue-type crafts appropriate for all differing seasons and themes, including picture frames as gifts for Mother's or Father's Day, musical shakers for a pre-school rhythm band, and miniature books for a summer reading program final project.
Presenter Cherie Lynn, an experienced art educator, discusses necessary supplies and offers budget-saving alternatives for each of the projects, which are introduced with an overview, followed by the demonstration, and conclude with a recap of onscreen instructions (DVD-ROM printable!) The only caveat is that some projects require the use of a hot glue gun, so adult supervision will be needed for younger groups. Highly recommended.
"...excellent instructional." --Booklist
Art teacher Cherie Lynn introduces more than 30 art projects in this excellent instructional. From the main menu, users access the projects: picture frames, puppets, masks, musical shakers, butterflies, a glitter circle, journals and diaries, and more.
Seated behind a table filled with supplies, Lynn clearly demonstrates how to make each craft. For example, the butterfly choice takes viewers to footage of the teacher turning a simple clothespin into a butterfly. She first colors the clothespin with a yellow marker and then strings beads on a pipe cleaners, which she fashions into the insect's antenna and wings.
Detailed instructions can be printed out when the DVD is inserted into the DVD-ROM drive of a computer. Including a cheerful and competent teacher, clear directives, good camera work, and simple, unique projects that require basic supplies, this is a good choice for parents, educators, and others seeking craft projects. Resourceful youngsters can easily follow along with adult supervision.
"Cherie Lynn's got another winner here, making it easy for moms, teachers, and anyone wanting to delve into arts/crafts projects to create cute and usable things." --Dove Foundation
This video is focused on projects for your young children, while World Art's projects are more detailed and sophisticated in nature. From Model Magic Mural to Bean Pictures, you'll have no trouble following along with Cherie Lynn.
At the beginning of each project, she gives you a complete list of all supplies, instructs in any pattern that needs to made ahead of time, and then follows up with instructions that you'll find very easy to follow. I found the Funky Line Drawing of interest, because young children would be able to do this, while older kids would take it to "the next level" and end up with something very original.
Cherie Lynn's got another winner here, making it easy for moms, teachers, and anyone wanting to delve into arts/crafts projects to create cute and usable things.
"We've had a great time watching this DVD and doing the crafts--perfect for your next homeschool rainy day --or any day for that matter." --The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
This DVD is so cooool! First of all, over 30 craft projects, picture frames, masks, puppets, journals, musical instruments, glitter art, 3-D murals, and SO many more!
The DVD is designed so you can 'click-thru' all the crafts--find what you want. Each craft has it's own 'supplies list' with it, so you can have everything ready to go and let Cherie Lynn take over ! She walks you through each craft project, step by step, doing the craft right along with you, giving you hints and tips along the way. At the end of the craft, the DVD even goes into a mini recap of the craft project. This DVD makes it easier for you to sit down with your children and do the craft together...and just follow along with Cherie Lynn.
I thought it was fun to feel like I wasn't the one directing the craft project, but rather a participant ;) If your children are older, they could sit down with supplies in hand, watch and do the craft projects by themselves as well! There are so many crafts to choose from as well--we did the bean art picture (they 3 year olds choice) and the masks (the 6 year olds choice). The bean art was simple and fun for all. The masks, they were a bit more difficult project, but they were so fun to do and really turned out neat!! We've had a great time watching this DVD and doing the crafts--perfect for your next homeschool rainy day --or any day for that matte
"This would also be an ideal video to use for intergenerational activities." --Creative Forecasting Magazine
Rainy Day Art 2 is a 200-minute DVD. It is one in a series of five DVDs in the Cherie Lynn Art Series. This DVD shows viewers how to make 13 art projects like clay fish, journals & diaries, Mardi Gras masks, Mexican Sun masks, and more. The projects do not require a great deal of dexterity or fine motor skills to complete. This would also be an ideal video to use for intergenerational activities.
