USPS Shipping Methods Explained

Domestic Methods

USPS Media Mail

USPS Media Mail is a special mail class designed for books, CDs, DVDs, and other electronic media. It is a cost effective mail class for packages weighing up to 70 lbs. However, it is the slowest mail class amongst the ones that we offer. The USPS estimates up to 9 days for delivery.

USPS Parcel Post

USPS Parcel Post is used for gifts and general merchandise, may also contain books and other printed matter. It is a cost effective mail class for packages weighing up to 70 lbs. However, it is the slowest mail class amongst the ones that we offer. The USPS estimates up to 9 days for delivery.

USPS First Class Mail

USPS First Class Mail is a preferrered mailing method for packages weighing less than 13 ounces. The USPS estimates 1-3 days for delivery.

USPS Priority Mail

USPS Priority Mail is the fastest of the three options we offer. The USPS estimates 1-3 days for delivery, although normally packages should arrive in 2 days.

Delivery Confirmation

The USPS does not offer "tracking" numbers on the services listed above. It offers a "delivery confirmation" number which allows a customer to view when an item was shipped and when it was delivered. It does not show progress across the country like tracking numbers from UPS, FedEx, or DHL.

Furthermore, the USPS has a nasty habit of not "scanning" the delivery confirmation number when the package is shipped. Checking the delivery confirmation number on their website then results in a cryptic error message that provides little to no information. Inevitably, the package arrives in a few days.

Basically, the delivery confirmation system is not, in our experience, reliable. That being said, the post office rarely loses a package and is usually incredibly fast and efficient.

If you have a time sensitive package, use UPS.

Delivery Time Estimates

During busy shipping times of the year (holidays), the USPS gets overloaded and sometimes takes longer than they estimate for packages to arrive. We at Vat19.com cannot be held responsible for delays by our shipping providers.

Please, if you have a time sensitive package, use UPS. The US Postal Service only provides estimates and sometimes they take longer to deliver than estimated. None of the mail classes that we offer have a time guarantee like UPS and therefore, if your packages takes longer than expected to arrive, the USPS does not offer shipping refunds.

International Methods

Airmail Letter Post

Airmail Letter Post allows packages up to 4 pounds to be sent to most destinations. It can be a very economical option for smaller packages.

Airmail Parcel Post

Airmail Parcel Post is the most common form of international delivery for larger packages (up to 70 lbs).

Global Priority Mail

Global Priority Mail® is an expedited airmail letter-post service providing fast, reliable, and economical delivery of all mailable items not over 4 pounds. Global Priority Mail items receive priority handling in the United States and in destination countries.

Delivery Time Estimates

While the USPS estimates approximately 4-10 days for international delivery, they do not make any guarantees and thus, neither can we.

Due to the nature of affordable international shipping, the USPS does not offer tracking information on these shipments.

Our experience has shown that most deliveries arrive within the 4-10 day time frame. A small percentage are significantly delayed in customs before making it to their final destination.

If your package has not arrived within 30 days of shipment, please contact us so that we may send a replacement.
