Trash: Zombie Brain Flavored Mints

|

Zombie Mints.jpg

I'm labeling the Zombie Mints as trash because they sound gross. What does "brain flavored" even taste like? It can't be good. Mints are supposed to make your breath smell good and fresh, not like whatever a brain smells like. Which, again, can't be good. However, if given the chance, I would try one of these.

Too gross for you? If you're looking for a candy gift that is unique, definitely tastes delicious, and is brain-free, check out Vat19's Giant Gummy Bear on a Stick and the World's Largest Gummy Bear.

Trash: Le Whif

|

lewhif.jpg

Just by looking at this picture here, what do you think Le Whif is? Perfume? Deodorant? A smoking inhibitor? Nope. Le Whif is a chocolate inhaler. It contains little particles of chocolate powder that you inhale, leaving you with a brief but supposedly yummy taste of chocolate in your mouth.

Part of the reason for this is to curb your calorie intake. Instead of eating a whole Snickers bar, you can take a couple puffs of Le Whif and intake less than 1 calorie. But I'm sorry, if I have a craving for chocolate, I want to EAT chocolate. I don't think a puff of chocolate mist is going to satiate me, you know?

Plus, these little buggers aren't cheap. Currently only available from a European site (as far as I know), they cost a little over $14 for a pack of six. And each Le Whif only contains four puffs, or one measly calorie of chocolate.

Sidenote: Why would you name your product Le Whif? I feel like Pepe Le Pew should be the spokesman.

Treasure: 1950s Candy Gift Box

|

1950s candy box.jpg

This 1950s Candy Gift Box would be an awesome gift for any baby boomer you know with a sweet tooth. It features tons of different candies from the 50s. Some of them I've heard of and are still around today - Chuckles, Mike & Ike's, Sugar Daddy Pops. Others...sound a little interesting. Violet or teaberry gum, anyone?

Tons of other candy boxes are available, including decade-themed ones from the 40s to the 90s. There's even a "vintage" one with candies from the 1800s (ever had a Squirrel Nut Zipper?). It's a delicious way to relive your childhood and maybe even experience the childhoods of your parents or grandparents!

Trash: Bacon Flavored Jelly Beans

|

bacon jelly beans.jpg

Seriously folks, what is the deal with the bacon phenomenon? There's bacon wallets, bacon socks, bacon bubble gum, bacon bandages, gummy bacon. There's even a bacon AK-47 out there somewhere. Why?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for quirky stuff and fun gag gifts. And these Bacon-Flavored Jelly Beans would probably be a funny gift for the bacon-lover in your life. But then I read one of the consumer comments:

"...these taste nothing like bacon. More like ashtray and refried beans."

Gross. That's just gross.

You know what's not gross, but is instead a quirky and fun gag gift that in fact tastes delicious? Vat19's Giant Gummy Bear on a Stick, that's what.

Trash: Gum Ball Belt Buckle

|

gumball belt buckle.jpg

I'll admit it. For a while, I was torn on whether this Gum Ball Belt Buckle was actually "trash" or "treasure". Because I love gum, and it would be quite handy to have a gum dispenser constantly on my person. And it might be nice to have a belt buckle you can color-coordinate to your wardrobe.

On the other hand, I'd look like a total fool. Something tells me this stops being cute and starts being silly when someone over 12 wears it.

Get Your Sugar On With Some GIANT Candy

|

When I was a kid and would go trick-or-treating, I would always go back to the house that gave out full-size candy bars for a second round. Getting candy that is bigger than expected is awesome. I can't even imagine how I would've reacted if someone handed out candy that is downright enormous.

I realize that America is practically eating itself to death, but I couldn't help but point out these ridiculously huge candies and treats. I am in no way recommending that anyone be a glutton and eat one of these in one sitting or eat them on a regular basis. Besides, you wouldn't want to. These are all so big that you'd surely get sick before you could finish. Although, I love Rice Krispie Treats so much I think I might be able to finish that one off if I really wanted to!

All of us here at Vat19 were totally stoked to get the Giant Gummy Bears in stock, which spurred the idea for this post. If you haven't seen these yet, you have to check them out. Watch the video, too!

Giant PEZ Dispenser
Giant PEZ Dispenser Kermit the Frog.jpg
PEZ is cool to begin with, so Giant PEZ Dispensers are automatically super cool. Seriously, PEZ is delicious and the dispenser is genius. I guess the PEZ people had to give all of those PEZ dispenser collectors something new to collect.

Giant Gummy Bear on a Stick
Giant Gummy Bear.jpg
OMG. A Giant Gummy Bear...on a stick! This Giant Gummy Bear is equal to 88 regular-sized gummy bears. They are available in blue raspberry, red cherry, and green apple. Walk around chomping on one of these and you'll be the envy of every man, woman, and child in the neighborhood.

Giant Rice Krispie Treats

I don't care if they are store-bought or home-made. Either way, Rice Krispie Treats are delicious. These Giant Rice Krispie Treats sheets are 32 ounces! Insane. And by insane I mean fantastic.

Fun with Food - Food Stop Motion Videos

|

Stop motion videos aren't anything new, but they are still neat to watch. The detail, editing time, and creativity are impressive. Well, not for all, but for some! After searching around You Tube, I've rounded up some pretty cool and not agonizingly long stop motion videos involving food.

Western Spaghetti

OK, so this one doesn't involve a lot of real food, but ordinary objects that look like food are used. I've seen several videos created by PES, and they are all extremely creative. For example, in the above stop motion video, wooden Pixie Stick "noodles" turn into soft rubber bands after boiling. Rubik's cubes, googly eyes, and money trees...what's not to love? If you like Vat19's Ambient Fire DVD, be sure to check out the Yule Log video made by PES.

Cupcake Dance

In this video, a bunch of cupcakes dance around a table. It starts off with one couple and eventually 7 cupcake couples are introduced. Nice cupcake choreography!

Tic Tac Fireworks

Tic Tacs are used to create a stop motion firework display. Mint leaves, orange peels, and orange slices are also used, which is a neat way to show the Tic Tac flavors.

Cake Jewels colors.jpg

Have you ever heard of edible cake jewels? It sounds a little weird (and prissy!), but they exist and are available in multiple colors to look like various gemstones. They make regular sprinkles or colored sugar look very "blah".

These would be perfect for Lil Jon's blinged out birthday cake! Lil Jon would be walking around with his diamond-covered chalice (oh, I'm sorry, I meant Pimp Cup) of CRUNK energy drink in one hand and a plate of jeweled birthday cake in the other. What a beautiful mental picture.

Cake Jewels diamonds.jpg

Princess wannabes around the world probably rejoiced when these were invented. And their moms were bummed because these cost more than sprinkles and will have to be placed on the cake one by one! You don't just dump cake jewels on a cake!

A package of about 84 assorted cake jewels costs $13.00. But for some parents, that's a small price to pay if it will satisfy a whining kid with the most perfectest birthday cake ever. Plus, if you put more than 84 of these on a cake, you have probably flown right past "nicely decorated" to "utterly tacky".

All kidding aside, I do think these have potential to look pretty neat on a cake. If you were really talented you could use these to make a stained glass image on a sheet cake.

Art That Melts In Your Mouth, Not In Your Hand

|

I'm a fan of taking small objects (such as paper clips or Legos) and making big pieces of art out of it. M&M candies come in plenty of colors for an artist to work with.

It just makes sense to make an image of Eminem out of M&Ms. The guy that made this also makes art from pieces of toast, earning him the nickname The Toastman.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so here's a couple "pink" works of art made from M&Ms. The first one is a M&M bra from a fashion show benefit and the second one was made by a breast cancer survivor who, despite the fact that she dislikes Mars Inc., made this impressive M&M mosaic.

I don't know that I'd call this art, but painting your entire body green shows some M&M appreciation.

In case you developed a habit of eating only brown M&Ms after watching sort M&Ms by color.
