Trash: Phone Fingers

|

phonefingers.jpg

I feel like I've been trashing a lot of products lately, but I could not pass these up.

They are called Phone Fingers, and you're supposed to wear them when using your touch screen phone in order to keep the precious screen fingerprint-free. Now I don't have a touch screen phone, so maybe I can't fully understand how necessary these are. But really, is a smudge-free screen important enough that you walk around with rubber protectors on your fingers? Who has the time to roll these suckers on every time they need to make a phone call or send a text?

If you want to keep your touch screen nice and shiny, I suggest investing in a pair of Ultimate Cloths. They clean tons of surfaces with ease and you won't look lame using them.

Treasure: Wooden iPhone/iPod Dock

|

wood iphone dock.jpg

This beautiful piece - along with the iPhone itself - is going on my "I will buy all of these things when I have money to burn" list. It is yet another hand made gem I found on Etsy.

The wood is cedar, so you know it smells awesome. The design is simple, pretty - "nature chic", if you will. It is compatible with the iPhone 3g and all iPod devices. Except for the Shuffle. I have a Shuffle and nothing cool is compatible with the Shuffle.

It will set you back $78. Pricey, yes, but not completely unreasonable for a functional hand made piece.

Treasure: Samsung Dual LCD Digital Camera

|

Samsung Dual LCD Screens.jpg

A digital camera with LCD screens on the front and the back! Why didn't this already exist? This would be especially helpful when someone (Hi, mom!) who sucks at using a digital camera is taking a photo for you so you can make sure they're getting everything framed correctly. I want one!

All of you who love to take photos of yourself and put them up on Facebook would like this because you can actually see what your photo will look like as it is displayed on the front LCD screen. If you can't afford to buy this new Samsung digital camera, you could always get the job done with the Bottle Cap Tripod or the Gorillapod Flexible Tripod, both available right here at Vat19.com.

Those aren't cookies. Those are iPod Shuffles disguised as those delicious chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla wafer cookies I so loved as a child. Don't they look awesome?!

But you know, it's almost cruel how realistic they look, isn't it? If I had an iPod Shuffle 3G, and it had one of these cases on it (preferably chocolate or strawberry), I would seriously be trying to take a bite out of it all the time. And I'd be severely disappointed when I tasted silicone and metal instead of yummy wafer-ness. Oh well, such is life.

neatdesk.JPG

Oh NeatDesk, where have you been all my life?

The NeatDesk is a high-speed desktop scanner that can scan a bunch of your receipts, business cards, and documents all at once. That's enough to impress me, but hold on to your hats folks, there's more. After the items are scanned, the included NeatWorks software identifies and extracts the important information and automatically organizes it for you on your computer. Seriously, push one button and your documents become PDFs, your receipt information goes into an Excel spreadsheet or QuickBooks, and your business contacts are stored in a digital Roladex.

At about $350.00 a pop, it's quite an investment, but it would make an awesomely unique gift for anyone who is too busy - or too lazy - to keep up on their document organization.

Be sure to check out Vat19.com for more great items to keep you organized.

Treasure: All-Weather LCD HDTV

|

Outdoor flatscreen TV.JPG

There just aren't enough bars and restaurants with outdoor seating and TVs in St. Louis. Maybe that's because of the 99% humidity. It'd be awesome to have this All-Weather LCD HDTV to put out on a patio or deck so I could sit outside at home on a nice summer evening and watch a Cardinals game.

The price tag might scare you. If you want a TV that can withstand rain, heat, and sun, you'll have to spend about $5,000. But hey, it's 46" and you can watch TV outside!

Trash: Smell of Books Aerosol

|

smellofbooks.jpeg

This has to be one of the looniest things I've seen in a while.

Apparently the creators of Smell of Books Aerosol are worried that people are reluctant to use e-books (like the Kindle) because they don't smell like books. So, they created five different aerosols that you can use on your e-book to create that oh-so-enchanting book smell. The aromas I understand are New Book Smell and Classic Musty, because they are actual book smells. The ones that puzzle me are Scent and Sensibility (which smells like violets, horses, and potpourri), Eau You Have Cats (does this smell like a litter box?), and Crunchy Bacon Scent. These scents have nothing to do with books!

Beyond the bizarre scents, though, I just think the Smell of Books Aerosols are off the mark. Yes, the smell of a book is part of the whole sensory experience of reading a book, but perhaps more so is the feel of the book - turning the pages, cracking the binding, etc. Honestly, the only way you're going to feel like you're reading an actual book is to ... read an actual book.

Trash: Ice Cream Sundae Speakers

|

SundaeFull1.jpg

One word: Obnoxious.

Three reasons:

1) These Ice Cream Sundae Speakers are BIG. 17" high and 17" wide. That's a heck of a lot of shelf or counter space that you're losing with these babies.

2) They're $1250.00 for a pair. I assume you're paying for excellent speakers, although the specs on the product page are jibberish to me, so I can't say for sure. But if you're enough of an audiophile to drop $1250 on speakers, do you really want them disguised as ice cream?

3) These faux sundaes don't even look good. If you want to make a great fake sundae, put a couple of "scoops" of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry together with some colorful sprinkles and a fudge drizzle. Don't build a random mound of lumpy, melty vanilla and put veins of chocolate on it. Ew.

Treasure: Plush Crab TV

|

Crab TV.jpg

I would've begged and begged for this TV if it would've been around when I was a kid! A small TV that looks like a crab is just plain awesome. In fact, I dare say it is 100% Curiously Awesome.

At the moment, it doesn't look like the Plush Crab TV is available. The manufacturer, Hannspree, also has other really neat TVs in unique shapes. They make TVs surrounded by an apple, firetruck, monkey, baseball, and more. Geniuses.
