Trash: Snuggie for Dogs

|

snuggie-for-dogs.jpg

I think this is taking the Snuggie a little too far, don't you? I'll freely admit that, despite its laughable looks, the original Snuggie for humans is not a bad idea. It would be nice to be all cozy and warm while still being able to read a book or change the channel on my TV.

But dogs don't read, watch TV (well, most don't), sew, make coffee, dust, cheer on sports teams, drink coffee in the woods, or do any of the other crazy things going on in the video below. So why do they need a Snuggie? That poor dog up there looks entranced, like he was hypnotized into wearing the thing. As soon as he snaps out of it, I have a feeling he's going to try and rip that sucker off.

Anyway, for a good laugh, check out the new Snuggie commercial below. High-fives all around and a little sofa dancing at the end. These people have to be making fun of themselves ... right?

Trash: PooTrap

Yes, we all know that picking up your dog's poo is not the most pleasant task in the world. I mean, it's poo. No one wants to pick that stuff up.

HOWEVER, if you have any compassion whatsoever for your dog, you will not make him wear the PooTrap. I mean, just look at the thing! Do I really need to explain why this is ridiculous? I actually think this might be worse torture than dressing your dog in sweaters and shoes. How embarrassing for your poor dog (and you too, honestly). And it cannot possibly be comfortable.

Your dog is your best friend. It's always there for you, through thick and thin, giving you completely unconditional love. The least you can do is spare him the PooTrap and pick up his poo yourself.

Treasure: 1984 Fishbowl

|

Named after the novel 1984 by George Orwell, this futuristic fishbowl by Danny Cheung provides a little bit of well-deserved privacy for your gilled friend. The glass areas are magnified, so you can get a good look at your fish whenever he or she decides to make an appearance.

Plus, it just looks awesome, and it would go with almost any decor. You and your fishie may have to sacrifice for a while to afford it, though. It costs $430.00.

Treasure: Hamster Car

I typically hate cutesy pet products. However, there would be something funny about seeing a hamster cruising along in one of these. If you claim that you put your pet hamster in one of these so that it gets exercise, you are a liar. You are doing it for your own amusement!

Don't worry, you don't have to get a pink one. There are 4 different colors available.

Have you ever loved an animal so much that you wanted to be able to hug it all the time? Well, how about wear it....all the time? I stumbled across this book

Book Cover

titled, "Knitting With Dog Hair: Better A Sweater From A Dog You Know and Love Than From A Sheep You'll Never Meet."

This book actually teaches you how to collect your dog's fur and spin it into a yarn-like material suitable for knitting. But don't worry, if you don't like the color of your pet's fur, there's a chapter all about dying the fur to your desired color. It also explains how to take care of the clothing once you are done knitting. I wonder if a Golden retriever is hand-wash only?

If you like this idea, there is a site that shows you just how to spin your own yarn. Just make sure to complete step 1 thoroughly. "Clean the entire amount of dog hair again with a mild liquid detergent or dog shampoo and lay it out to dry." You don't want any fleas to get mixed in there!

However, for those of you who are not into the whole create-your-own-yarn fad, you can have it made for you! VIP Fibers is a company that will spin the hair into 100% animal hair yarn! Simply save all your dog's hair and send it in. Somehow this whole idea freaks me out a bit. I love my pets and all, but I'm not about to go wear his shedded dead hair. Ew. I guess it's really no different though than wearing wool sweaters. Apparently Chow chow fur sweaters can go for upwards of $600.

catsweater.jpgNow for all you cat-lovers out there, fret not. You can make clothing from cat hair as well. Suzanne Owen, a woman from Lakewood, Colorado made her own cat hair cardigan sweater. How lovely is this?

I just have one thing to say. When my cat gets wet, he smells bad, so watch out for them rainstorms!

Get These Turds Out Of My Yard!

Judging by the assortment of dog turds that are gracing my sidewalk and front yard, you'd think I have a little dog and a big dog. But I have no dogs.

I live in a nice neighborhood with seemingly civilized inhabitants, yet some of these pet owners act like lazy, disgusting hoosiers. You're the one that got yourself a dog, so pick up after it! Or, better yet, how about you keep your dog out of my yard so that the pooping never happens there.

If your dog poops in your yard and you want to leave it there, fine. Gross, but fine. My yard is a different story.

It is beyond rude to leave your dog's poop in someone else's yard. I want to be able to walk through my grass without having to dodge turds. Should I end up stepping in one and I know which dog it came from, you should expect to find my poopy footprints on your front door.

Curiously Awesome Dog Mods & Pet Costumes

|

Owning a dog is both normal and common. Putting a sweater on a dog isn't exactly unusual, either. What IS strange, though, is the amount of time that went into the dogs at the SuperGroom 2007 Competition. The article is worth checking out, if only for the “Let me put the hoochy in your poochy” quote. Take a look at these photos from the event:

This dog looks like a slobbery, wagging version of Ambient Water.

Oddly enough, neither of these entries placed first. Of course, while we're on the subject, here are a few more examples of crazy animal fashion:
