We must admit that the USB Lava Lamp is a really neat product. Traditional Lava Lamps are tres (that's French for 'super') cool, so how do you make it even more super awesome? Nerd it up a bit and make it USB-powered.

Instead of connecting to a wall outlet, it plugs into any USB port on your computer. So, plug-in, man... and enjoy the psychedelic color-cycling.

Why would anyone want a USB powered Mini Lava Lamp? At first, we were skeptics, too. I mean, how could anybody improve upon such a monumentally awesome device (we're referring to the original lava lamp, of course). Simple! By replacing the power plug with a USB cord. It makes everything that much cooler.

In all seriousness, however, the USB Mini Lava Lamp is seriously pretty neat, as long as you don't seriously expect it to sing and dance for you (yes, we are aware that we said 'seriously' three times in that sentence). Just plug it in and the USB Mini Lava Lamp cycles through three different colors: blue, red, and green.

1. Soooo...it's like a "real" lava lamp, but I plug it into my computer?

Answer: Yes. And unlike the old school lava lamps from the '60s, the USB mini lava lamp is made of space-age materials that resist licking. Well, maybe that's not true. But, yes, it's basically the same darned thing. And a little smaller, too.

2. Does the USB mini lava lamp get really hot like traditional lava lamps?

Answer: Nope. The power provided by a USB port isn't powerful enough to generate that much heat. So, feel free to lick your lava lamp without the fear of burning your tongue. It's easily as safe as licking our Insta-Snow. (That's two shameless cross promotions on one page!)

3. Does the USB mini lava lamp work on all computers?

Answer: For sure! The lava lamp does not interface with your computer. Furthermore, it cannot hybrid with any Wellington Bear products (if you don't get the South Park reference, don't worry, the reference isn't that funny, anyway). What we're trying to say is that all the USB Mini Lava Lamp is doing with your USB connection is stealing power. It doesn't need any drivers or anything annoying like that. Just plug it in and it works!

how does it really work

The USB Glitter Lamp works because hundreds of tiny elves live inside each lamp. When you turn it on, each one grabs a piece of glitter and swims around, using the glitter as a kickboard of sorts. Don't bother looking for them, as you'll only be able to see them if you truly believe.

I was just wondering how long the usb cable is

The USB Lava Lamp's cable cord is approximately 6 feet long.

How much can it light if the standard usb voltage is 5 v?

If you are asking how long the USB Lava Lamp will stay lit, the answer is more than 40,000 hours. If you are asking about the brightness, well, we don't have an exact measurement for that. The USB Lava Lamp gives off an ambient light; for brighter light, we recommend our USB Desk Lamp.

This isn't a lava lamp, because it doesn't have that gooey material that REAL lava lamps have. False Advertising!!

OK, time to get technical. LAVA is a brand, not a "gooey material". LAVA creates a variety of items (including the USB-powered LAVA lamp) that do not feature the "gooey material". In fact, LAVA also sells t-shirts. These t-shirts do not have "gooey material" (that we know about). Therefore, Is LAVA falsely advertising its own products? I think not. So there! Pbbbbtttt (I'm sticking my tongue out at you) Naaa na na na naaa naaaa. The real reason there is no "gooey material" in the USB Lava Lamp is that USB ports do not have enough power in order to heat up that gooey stuff.

The USB Lava Lamp does not have an opening to access the bulb, therefore it cannot be replaced.

As far as we know, there is not a way to change the way the USB Lava Lamp cycles through colors.

The USB Mini Lava Lamp is only capable of cycling through colors.

We can't really test "forever", but your USB Lava Lamp will last a very long time with normal use.

That depends on whether or not it is a powered USB port and whether or not it is an option on your particular device.

Do you have to shake it to make it work? I've seen some that the glitter all settles and stops moving. Just looks like clear water.

Shaking is not necessary. The glitter is moved around by a small current produced by a tiny motor.

This is one of our earliest videos and we hope to one day get around to making a new video for it. The power provided by a USB port isn't powerful enough to generate that much heat, so it will never get hot.

The USB Lava Lamp does not have a timer, so it will stay on indefinitely. You do not need to charge it; it simply needs to be plugged into your computer's USB port.

How large are the glitter flakes? I ask only because I have one, it's glitter consists of tiny silver disks. My desk mate has one and his lamp consists of tiny silver specks.

This may sound a little odd, but the glitter flecks are a little larger than the size of a flea. They're definitely smaller than the sequin/disk glitter that you see in some USB Glitter Lamps.

Does the USB Mini Lava Lamp have multi usb ports, like the usb desktop fan?

Sorry, but the USB Mini Lava Lamp can not be used as a USB hub. It has no additional USB slots built into it.
