Kapoosh Universal Knife Block Holds Any Knife

The Kapoosh Universal Knife Block can hold any set of knives due to its clever freedom rod technology. They're good looking, too, and available in two styles: stainless steel and wooden. The stainless model has two removable compartments whereas the wooden style only has one removable compartment.

Kapoosh Universal Knife Block doesn't use slots. The Kapoosh also comes in a wooden holder.
The dishwasher safe Kapoosh knife block doesn't use slots. It is available in two styles: stainless or wooden.

Dishwasher safe "Freedom Rods" create this slotless universal knife block

The compartments in the Kapoosh Universal Knife Block are comprised of hundreds of "freedom rods".

Freedom rods make the Kapoosh a slotless knife block.

These plastic rods allow you to insert nearly any object into the knife block. Though they're flexible, the freedom rods hold the object securely in place. Because it doesn't use pre-sized slots, the Kapoosh knife block can hold nearly any knife or utensil.

And don't worry about getting the freedom rods dirty. They're dishwasher safe! You can simply grab the compartments and remove them from the Kapoosh and chuck them in the dishwasher. Pretty awesome, indeed!

The Kapoosh knife block keeps your knives sharper

Unlike slotted knife blocks which can quickly dull your blades, the Kapoosh's gentle system of freedom rods keeps your knives sharper, longer.

Slots are so out! Seriously, who has the time to try to figure out which slots goes with which knife? We don't! And now with the Kapoosh universal knife block, you can just toss 'em in and forget about it.

Please note that the Kapoosh knife block does not come with any knives...or slots.

I have a burning question about this product!

Is there something you need to know about this product that we've omitted?

Send us an anonymous question and we promise to answer it within 1 business day. The answer will be displayed below.

A few customer questions we've answered

Q: What are the measurements of the stainless block?
A: Ok, bear with us, there are a lot of measurements here. The longer back side is 11.5" while the shorter front side is 7". Since it's leaning at an angle, the Stainless Steel Kapoosh Knife Block is actually just 10" tall at it's tallest point. Of course, when the Kapoosh is in use, your knives will add several inches to the overall height needed to store it. The base of the Kapoosh is 6" wide at its widest point and 4.5" wide on the top side.

Q: Could you tell me what kind of wood the wooden version is constructed with and whether the plastic rods are stiff or pliable?
A: The wooden Kapoosh knife block is made from rubberwood. Rubberwood is from the maple family of woods. It is a durable and high-quality wood that has very little tendency to crack, warp, or shrink. The plastic rods are not completely stiff and are somewhat pliable. To get a better idea of how the rods work, click on the "Watch Video Clip" button to see a product demonstration.

Q: How many knives does the stainless kapoosh hold?
A: That number of knives you could fit into the Stainless Steel Kapoosh would be dependent on the sizes of the knives. It shouldn't have any trouble accommodating a typical 10-12 piece set of mixed sizes, but you could probably fit a few more if they were smaller or placed closer together.

Q: I would like to know the measurements of the wooden block.
A: Longer side: 11.25 inches Shorter side: 9 inches Height at its tallest point: 10.5 inches Width: 5.5 inches

Q: Which block holds more knives - the wood or stainless steel? Also, are both able to hold a couple of large cleavers in addition to a full set of knives?
A: The stainless steel version can hold a few more knives than the wooden version. As far as being able to hold a few cleavers and a full set of knives, that depends on the size of the cleavers. That being said, you could easily hold one cleaver in addition to a full set of knives in either version.

Q: Do the knives ever nick or cut the plastic rods? I'm concerned bits of plastic could end up in food.
A: The freedom rods are very flexible and run parallel to the direction of the knife blades. Therefore, when used properly, there will never be any broken bits of plastic. You would have to completely remove the freedom rods from the knife block and saw them like a loaf of bread in order to cut the them.

Q: Are Freedom Rods affiliated with Freedom Fries? Or Freedom Toast?
A: No, that's a different set of "Freedoms". The Kapoosh knife block's freedom rods are more politically neutral and hail from Kansas City, Missouri.

Q: What is the longest knife you can fit into these blocks? Will they take a 10" Chef's knife?
A: A 10" knife blade would not entirely fit inside of the Kapoosh. The "freedom rods" in the front section of the Stainless Steel Kapoosh are 4 3/4 inches long and 8 1/4 inches long in the back section.

Q: If I ACCIDENTALLY removed the freedom rods and sawed through them like a loaf of bread, thus damaging them, could I have my money back?
A: Not likely. I'm pretty sure we would ACCIDENTALLY forget to process that refund.

Q: Are the freedom rods removeable from both the wooden and the stainless steel version for cleaning?
A: Yes, both knife blocks have removable, dishwasher safe freedom rods.

Q: I have a Gerber 10" slicer, really 10.5" long, with a VERY sharp point. When it bottoms out at the base of the rods will the point damage the Kapoosh? Will the Kapoosh dull the knife? Thanks.
A: While it probably wouldn't damage the Kapoosh to use knives that are too long, you might find that it would dull the tip due to repeatedly hitting the plastic bottom of the freedom rod bundle. For shorter knives that fit completely in the block, you should find that , if anything, the Kapoosh knife blocks preserve the life of your blades.

Q: I'd like a stainless steel Kapoosh that holds more knives, accepting 10.5" knives completely inside. Will that be available?
A: At this time, we're not aware of any plans for a larger or deeper model of the Kapoosh Knife Block.

Q: I don't really want my knives displayed on the counter tip. Any chance I can get the Koosh part in a drawer that I usually keep the knives in, so they would be protected & also out of site ?
A: It's definitely possible, although it would take a little bit of work. You'd just have to take apart your Kapoosh (the wooden one would probably work best since they're square) and create a small, sectioned off area in your drawer. From there, you could just insert the Kapoosh and use it however you like.

Q: Please explain exactly HOW to remove the freedom rods from the wooden base. I have removed the 3 Phillips head screws from the black square base, yet the rods are in tight. Thank you. harb16@gmail.
A: All you have to do to remove the freedom rods is pull. You do not need to use any screws.

Q: What is the longest blade the stainless block will take? You say a 10.5" blade is too long, but you don't state maximum blade length.
A: Since the "freedom rods" in the front section of the Stainless Steel Kapoosh are 4 3/4 inches long and 8 1/4 inches long in the back section, any blade longer than those measurements would stick out of the top.

Q: I have the beautiful colored pure Komachi knife set. Will these rods scratch the color or leave black lines on the knives colored blades? My current set of steak knives with steel handles do. I love the look of the Kapoosh and the ability to store all knife sizes but do not want these knives discolored.
A: We have contacted our manufacturer, and they have not had any complaints of knife discoloration and do not believe that the black plastic rods would leave lines on colored blades. However, there could be a risk of slight scratching since the rods are not rounded at the tips.

Q: Will the knife blocks hold sharpening steels and kitchen shears?
A: Yes, in addition to knives of varying sizes, the Kapoosh Knife Blocks can hold sharpening steels and kitchen shears. You could also put in other utensils.

Q: I would love to see you do another block that has a seperate section added to hold my steak knives. Do you think that is possible and how fast can it do done
A: Thanks for your interest! Unfortunately, we are not the manufacturer of this item and we cannot accommodate requests for custom knife blocks.

Q: Hi can steak knives and other serrated knives be put into the kapoosh knife block or will the rods be damaged. Thank-you
A: Yes. As long as you're not sawing at the freedom rods, your knife block should be just fine with serrated knives.

Q: How long of knife will the wooden block accept?
A: The shorter side of the Wooden Kapoosh is 9 inches long, so a knife that is 9 inches or less should be fine.

Q: Can I put the kapoosh on the bottome rack of my dishwasher or should I put it on the top rack?
A: If you're unsure, we recommend washing the Kapoosh Knife Block on the top rack of your dishwasher.

Q: when you give a length for a knife is that the entire knife or just the blade length. you advise that putting in longer knives might dull the point of the blade.
A: The length refers to the length of the blade. Because the bottom of the Kapoosh is plastic, it minimizes the damage done should you happen to put in a knife that's too long. Of course, there's always a risk of dulling the point of a blade slightly when it hits the bottom of a container, whether you're dealing with a Kapoosh or a traditional wooden block.

Q: I have this block and it works great. My only question is that some of the rods have gotten bent and kinked over. Is there any way to straighten them?
A: If it's only a few rods, you'll probably have better luck just cutting the offending rods out of the bundle.

Q: CAN I JUST BUY THE RODS FOR A CUSTOM MOUNTING
A: Unfortunately, we don't sell the pieces separately. Of course, you're more than welcome to buy the blocks and pull out the rods on your own.

Q: Hi Do you ship to the UK Thankyou ALBERT KELLY?
A: Yes, we ship worldwide.

Q: How long are the freedom rods in the wooden block?
A: The depth of the rods in the wooden knife block is just a little bit over 8 inches.

Q: Hi there Do you ship to UK ? Thankyou Albert Kelly
A: Yes, we ship worldwide!

Q: Is there a store that I can buy the Kapoosh Knife Block or do I have to buy it online?
A: Although we're sure that someone out there carries the Kapoosh in a brick and mortar store, we're not aware of any specific locations that sell it.
