From the inside out, Flint Laces are designed to make your outdoor experiences enjoyable and safe.

The core of each round lace is made from seven-strand paracord made to withstand 550 pounds of force before breaking! And each Flint Lace ends with a pair of metal aglets for maximum durability. The aglets hold a ferrocerium rod—the flint—for a total of four reusable spark igniters.

Each ferrorod is capped with a removable rubber cover to keep the flint protected. To create a spark, just slip off the cover and push a ferrorod against the included steel striking plate.

Question: Are these reusable?

Answer: Flint laces can be used again and again. Each ferrorod has hundreds of strikes in them, and since there are four per set, with reasonable use, you should be able to make a spark for the life of the laces providing you’re not just striking them for fun. You can remove and recap the ferrorods with the rubber cover between uses to protect them.

Question: What if they get wet?

Answer: It can be difficult to strike a spark with a wet ferrorod (and especially difficult to create a flame with wet tinder), but water will not ruin Flint Laces. Try to keep them dry by keeping the rubber covers on them when not in use, and try to wipe the surface of the ferrorod before striking if they do get wet.

Question: Can I get these through airport security?

Answer: As of 7/2015, the current TSA regulations permit lighters without fuel in checked baggage. However, if you’re concerned about them getting confiscated, you might want to leave them at home.
