This butter keeper maintains the ideal temperature for fresh, spreadable butter without requiring any cords, batteries or fossil fuels. Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff

Q: My butter keeps falling out of the lid and into the water. How can I avoid this?
A: If you're using real butter and you slice and pack it as shown in the video, you should have no trouble getting your butter to stay in the Butter Bell. You should also be sure that the butter you're using is cool and solid when you pack it.

Q: I would like to know if Butter Bell offers a larger crock.
A: We have never seen a larger Butter Bell than the size you see here.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: when you go to use the butter and lift the bell out of the crock, won't the butter and the bell be wet?
A: There will be a little bit of water on the butter, but not much. The bell makes a tight seal with the crock, so water really only makes contact with the butter itself. And, since water and butter don't mix, you don't have to worry about water seeping into your butter.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Why does the white Butter Bell cost more than the red or black ones?
A: The blue accents on the white Butter Bell are hand painted, and the piece requires two firings. This additional work raises the cost to produce the item, and therefore raises the price just a bit.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Do you have to use salted butter, or does pure unsalted butter stay good also?
A: Usually salted butter works best, but unsalted butter should work as well. For the best results with either type, just make sure when you are packing the bell that the butter is not too soft and that it is firmly packed.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: I recently read there was a sale starting in October on Butter Bell Crocks, it was a two for one sale. Is this correct?
A: We haven't heard of anyone offering this promotion for the Butter Bell Butter Crock. That rumored sale on Butter Bell Crocks might be a crock.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: If it forms an airtight seal, will that cause anarobic bacteria to grow (e.g botulisum)
A: From our research, we have found that anaerobic bacteria do not live or grow in the presence of oxygen. Since the water contains oxygen, and the butter is exposed to oxygen every time you take it out to use it, anaerobic bacteria should not grow within the Butter Bell.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: As I use up the butter in my butter keeper, will the remaining, unused butter stay fresh, or will I need to replace what has been used immediately?
A: No, you do not need to immediately replace the butter in your Butter Bell butter keeper. Occasionally, you will need to change the water, but the butter will stay fresh for up to 30 days.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: How does it keep the butter soft?>
A: An air-tight seal of water is created at the base of the Butter Bell. This seal maintains the butter's flavor and freshness, keeping it safely at room temperature (and therefore soft) for extended periods of time.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: How often do you have to change the water in the butter crock?
A: You should change the water in the Butter Bell every three days.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: How much water should I put in the crock? I don't like the idea of the butter getting wet with water that has been standing for few days. Can I just put a bit in the bottom?
A: You should put 1/3 of a cup of cool water in the Butter Bell. This is the amount of water that the manufacturer recommends to create an airtight seal so your butter stays fresh and spreadable.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: How long does it take for the butter to become soft?
A: When you put the butter in the Butter Bell, it will probably take several hours to reach room temperature. Putting it in the butter crock doesn't actually make it warm up faster, it just keeps it safe to eat as it remains at room temperature for extended periods of time.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: if i color the water will my butter change color too?
A: Since butter is mostly oil and doesn't mix well (pun intended) with water, we doubt you could color the butter in your Butter Bell.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Is the product lead-free, etc.?
A: The Butter Bell Butter Crock is lead-free. It does not contain lead or cadmium.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Does the butter fall out into the water when it sits out and gets warm?
A: No. As long as you use real butter and pack it tightly, your Butter Bell butter crock won't have any problems holding onto it.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: is it possible to put cream cheese in the butter crock?
A: The manufacturer does not recommend storing cream cheese in the Butter Bell. The Butter Bell uses water to create the airtight seal that keeps butter fresh, and this would simply create a mess with cream cheese. In addition, cream cheese is a processed food that needs to be refrigerated to stay fresh. However, if you would like to use the bell portion of the Butter Bell to temporarily serve cream cheese, that should not be a problem.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Hi! I would like to know how much butter the crock contains in centiliter/deciliter.
A: The Butter Bell can hold 1/2 cup of butter, which is equal to 11.8 centiliters or 1.18 deciliters.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: are you able to store a cheese spread in this crock?
A: Depending on what kind, it could be used to store the cheese. However,it would probably not last as long as the butter would. If the cheese is a processed cheese, it is not advisable to store outside of the refrigerator. If the spreadable cheese has no additives, then it should be okay.
