Railroad Spike Bottle OpenerReclaimed railroad spike hand-forged into a unique bottle opener design.
Watch our Railroad Spike Bottle Opener Video One of the coolest bottle openers we've ever seen
The Railroad Spike Bottle Opener is the toughest beer-opening device we've ever handled. And that's because it's made from a solid chunk of high carbon steel. The process begins by heating each spike to 2400°F. The pointed end is then split and reworked into the bottle-opening claw and then the handle is twisted using a specially-designed tool. No two are exactly alike.
Reclaimed spikes get a new lease on life
The blacksmith who creates these uniquely tough bottle openers obtains the railroad spikes from abandoned rail lines (with the permission of the railroad, of course). After a lengthy process of heating, clamping, chiseling, and forging, the newly molded bottle opener is coated with a thin layer of pure beeswax for protection and a dab of color.
The marking on the top of the spike, typically MC or HC, refers to the amount of carbon in the steel. HC = High Carbon; MC=Medium Carbon.

Q: Will it blend? Q: These are really cool looking, but are any of them really pitted from being out in the rain for years on end? I think one with lots of pits would be cool. Q: could this be used as this be used to substitute the "lead pipe" piece in the boardgame "clue"? Excuse the shameless cross promotion...but you may also like these items:
