Overview

Our Railroad Spike Bottle Openers are eye-catching, unique, and make fabulous gifts for your beer-drinking friends. Each bottle opener is hand-forged from an old railroad spike that was collected from an abandoned railroad line.

The forging process requires heating the steel spike to 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. Several custom-made tools create the bottle-opening claw as well as the twisted design on the handle.

Due to the hand-forging process, there will be slight variations between each opener. A thin coating of pure beeswax is added for protection and a bit of coloring.

One of the coolest bottle openers we've ever seen

The Railroad Spike Bottle Opener is the toughest beer-opening device we've ever handled. And that's because it's made from a solid chunk of high carbon steel.

The process begins by heating each spike to 2400°F. The pointed end is then split and reworked into the bottle-opening claw, and then the handle is twisted using a specially-designed tool. No two bottle openers are exactly alike.

Reclaimed spikes get a new lease on life

The blacksmith who creates these uniquely tough bottle openers obtains the railroad spikes from abandoned rail lines (with the permission of the railroad, of course). After a lengthy process of heating, clamping, chiseling, and forging, the newly molded bottle opener is coated with a thin layer of pure beeswax for protection and a dab of color.

The Railroad Spike Bottle Opener is approximately 6.25
The Railroad Spike Bottle Opener features a twisted-handle design and a gritty, brushed finish.

The marking on the top of the spike, typically MC or HC, refers to the amount of carbon in the steel. HC = High Carbon; MC = Medium Carbon.
