When the OpenIt! Plastic Package Opener comes to your house, is the package that it comes in plastic?
Nope! Believe it or not, the manufacturer's can appreciate how ironic that would be. The OpenIt! arrives in an insultingly easy to open package.
So, to get this straight. This is for people who can't use scissors without cutting their fingers off? If so, why does it have a box cutter on it? It does seem like a great product for Christmas though.
Trying to open up thick plastic packaging with scissors can damage the scissors and it is more likely to have a finger cutting accident. The box cutter is covered to prevent injury when not in use. Yes, it is a great product!
If you order this wouldnt you still be able to cut off your finger?
We suppose that if you really tried to, then you could cut your finger with the shears. But the design of the OpenIt! shears (i.e. the recessed blade) make it super easy to cut through blister packs, and therefore much more difficult to accidentally injure yourself.
Does the OpenIt! come in a blister pack?
No. As stated before, the manufacturer has a pretty decent grasp of irony.
can we use the open it to open the box of curiously awesome products that just arrived in the mail?
Of course! Unless the OpenIt! happens to be in that box, in which case you'd have to be Houdini to pull that trick off.
Does the open-it come in blister package?
No it does not.
What's a blister pack?
Blister packs are those really tough-to-open sealed plastic packages that are most often used with toys or small electronics. They're pretty much impossible to open without a handy gadget like the OpenIt!
Let me guess, the OpenIt comes in a blister pack?
Nope! Manufacturers are keenly aware of irony as well and this one was aware enough to package it on an easy to open backer card.
Did Jon really cut his finger off??
Of course. Jon is willing to suffer greatly for his art, which is why he let us cut his arm off for the Poppin' Cotton Candy video as well.
Can this thing ship out of the US even though it has the blades?
Yes. International shipping on this product is no problem at all.
If you wanted to torture your buyers, I'd put that in a plastic thing.
Does it come in a plastic thing?
Luckily, the manufacturer understands irony and has packaged the OpenIt! on a very easy to open cardboard backer card.
Why do blister packs still exist?
Because people still regularly shoplift items from stores. If people would quit tearing into packaging and stealing the contents, maybe manufacturers will ease up on the packaging.
How well would this work for a person who is left-handed?
Very well. Just turn it over.
does the open-it come in a package that could be opened with the open-it. or is it an easy open package?
The packaging is easy to open and luckily does not require the Open-It.
How long does the openit last?
With proper use and maintenance there is no reason why your OpenIt shouldn't last for many, many years.
I'm a huge fan of models. Especially Snap-together Gundam models. Would this work as well as a normal pair of model cutters?
We haven't used them for that application, but I think they would be good for that.
I got open it from a store and it's unopened but I can see through plastic it's bent at the blade and won't work. They can't exchange cuz they don't carry it now. Could I get a working one from you if I send my to you? Thanks
Unfortunately, we cannot accept an exchange of products that were purchased from another store. My suggestion is to return the item to them for a refund, and then purchase a working one from us.
how do you get this out of the package
The beauty of the OpenIt's packaging is that you do not need an OpenIt to open it. You can simply rip off the cardboard backing.
When you cut blister packs wont the rims of the packaging get in the way of the handles of this?
Nope, the blades of the OpenIt! are recessed to prevent that from happening. Smart, eh?
Is the knife replaceable?
The blade cannot be replaced, but there's no reason that it shouldn't last through several years of use.
If at the beginning Jon lost his finger with some scissors, and the OpenIt! has powerful cutting sheers, wouldn't it be more probable to loose a finger with the OpenIt?
No, because the OpenIt has a special recessed blade that keeps the sharp shears away from your fingers. It's much safer than trying to use unwieldy scissors.
Is the retractable box cutter bladed replaceable?
Yes, the blade can be replaced.
Wait but without the OpenIt! how did ya guys succeed opening the package?
Because the packaging it comes in is little more than a cardboard card and some glue. You can probably sneeze at it and open the OpenIt! packaging.
Do you think this product will stay until, i dunno, 10 years later? I'm still in school and when i get my own house i wanna fill it with your cool gadgets!
We sure hope so!
Does the open it work on duct tape just like an exacto knife?
Both the snipping shears and the built in razor will cut through duct tape.
I appreciate that Jon cut a finger off of the hand he was holding the scissors with. Or do I???
It was clearly not one of his proudest moments.
Don't you need a open-it to open the open-it packaging??
Nope. Believe it or not the manufacturer has a pretty good understanding of irony as well.
I tend to buy this and the Auto-Safety, do you ever plan on making a version without the pry tab?
We do not have plans to sell a model of the OpenIt without the pry tab.
Why (in the videos) do you always demonstrate screwdrivers on toy plastic cows?
Because we sell a toy plastic cow (that's also a
talking bank!)
So you should get one to open Vat19 packages?
We don't sell very many products which come in inpenetrable packaging, but it wouldn't hurt to have one for companies who do!
How light is it?
Very light. The OpenIt! only weighs a few ounces, so it's not going to strain your hands to use.
if you have 2 of these can you open a openit packaging with a openit? (cuz thats win :3)
You can, but you can also use your fingers since the packaging is ridiculously easy to open.
Is it possible to replace the utility knife when it becomes blunt?
The blade cannot be replaced, but there's no reason that it shouldn't last through several years of use.
Did you know Jack Scalfani ( From Cooking With Jack Show ) Reviewed your product and told them to buy it at vat19
We did! Jack is a great guy and we really appreciate his review.
Isn't the packaging that you need the open it to open called clam shell package?
Some of them are. They get their name because in production the front and back are folded on top of one another and sealed along the seam. Blister pack can also apply, though those are typically made from a single piece of plastic which is adhered to a piece of tough plastic or cardboard.
Can this thing be packaged in a blister pack? I want it to be extra annoying for my mom.
No can do, though that would be pretty funny.
i know why i am so frustrated: because i can't open these hard-to-open packages. i have "wrap rage"
Cure it with the OpenIt!
what type of replacement blades?
Unfortunately the blade on the OpenIt! is not replaceable.
this mite be rude but don't you dare retire this product!!
We don't plan to - the OpenIt is awesome!
What kind of package does it come in because i saw something like this at a store and it was in one of those annoying plastic things its supposed to open.
That would be so annoying! No, the OpenIt! is not fully encased in a plastic blister case. The front of the package is plastic, but the back is thick paperboard. You could easily peel it off.
okay.........basically i want everything you guys have.
but I dont have a credit card......what do I do?
You can mail in an order with a cashier's check or money order. More info on mailing in an order can be found
here. Please note that we cannot accept personal checks.
Can we use the utility knife to cut polymer clay?
A very thin piece of clay, perhaps.
Question: Why (in the videos) do you always demonstrate screwdrivers on toy plastic cows?
Answer: Because we sell a toy plastic cow (that's also a talking bank!)
Response: Still though, is the cross promo necessary?
Cross promos are definitely necessary! We love getting a chance to show off more than one product.
Can it open Christmas presents?
That's the idea!
Can you make the color red because my dad wants one and his favorite color is red.
We're sorry, but there are no plans for more colors at this time.
Better question: Will I ruin it if I use it to cut wire?
It depends on the wire. While the OpenIt! was not designed to be a wire cutter, it shouldn't have any problem cutting through small copper wires or network cabling. You may want to stick with your regular wire cutters for those tasks, though.
Is this, ironically, packaged in a hard-to-open plastic package?
No, it is not. That would be cruel.
Does the openit come in a blister package?
Believe it or not, the manufacturer was able to appreciate irony as well, which is why the OpenIt! comes in an extremely easy to open package.
Is the package hard to open plastic?
Nope, it is very easy to open cardboard.
Will it someday be possible to print out products on magical omni-substance printers? Also, how long will this take to ship this to... oh, say, New Jersey?
I have no idea how to answer your first question, but I can help with the second. Please click on the green "Calculate Shipping" link at the top of the product page (below the price) to find out shipping costs and delivery times.
what package does this come in
The packaging is a plastic shell that is glued onto a cardboard backing, and it can be easily opened. Luckily, you do not need the OpenIt! to open the OpenIt! packaging.
I believe I saw a picture of this or something like it. The irony was, it was in one of those hard to open packages. How is this packed?
Don't worry, we wouldn't do that to you. The OpenIt! packaging is plastic on the front and cardboard on the back. You can easily peel the cardboard backing off to get to the OpenIt!.
Could you show us a video for toughness by sledgehammering it?
We don't think it's necessary, to be fully honest.
Can you make it in different colours someday? Example-Blue,Purple,Red and Pink?
Sorry, but there are no plans for more colors at this time.
Hi Vat19! I'm just wondering if the OpenIt! can open letters?
It might not make the most practical letter-opener in the world, but it can certainly do the job!
Is there anyway to get one of these with a corkscrew?
Unfortunately the OpenIt! is not available with a corkscrew.
Can i use the blister packager opener as scissors for arts and crafts???
It depends on what types of arts and crafts you are doing. If it's detail work, the OpenIt is not your best bet.
Vat 19 will the gummy worm blend
With enough liquid and a big enough blender, sure!
i would scream and die laughing if it came in one of those plastic cases. Please tell me it dosent and kill the oxymoreon!!
No, it does not! We agree, that would be ridiculous. The package has a cardboard backing that can be easily peeled off.
WOW, I got to say this product is impressive like everything else on this site, where do you guys come up with or get all these great ideas??
Thanks! We didn't invent all of the products; we're just genius enough to sell them!
