how many puzzles r there
There are 30 double-sided challenge cards, so 60 puzzles altogether.
Would this be a good way to learn Chess for a person just starting out, even lacking familiarity with the rules?
A basic understanding of the rules is definitely required, but beyond that this is a great way to brush up on some basic (and some not-so-basic) tactics.
How many pieces does this come with? Does it come with as many in a traditional set?
No. It comes with 10 chess pieces (Pawn x 2, Bishop x 2, Knight x 2, Rook x 2, Queen, King).
can you play with 2 people?
No, this is a single-player game. Hence the name "Solitaire" Chess.
Is there a moving forward or backward for pawns?
Pawns can only move forward diagonally. They cannot move backwards.
is the chess pieces made out of plastic or glass?
The pieces are plastic.
Is it beginner friendly?
It is! The puzzles range from "Beginner" to "Expert" in difficulty.
You didn't mention whether the instruction book also stores in the case along with the men and cards. Does it? Also, how big is the case (LxWxH)?
Yes, it does. As for the dimensions, you can find them at the very top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section.
Can the pawn attack diagonally in any direction since there is no general direction it started from?
No, pawns can only move diagonally upward. They are not promoted when they reach the top row.
What is the Toray attack or whatever you call it?
The Torre Attack is an opening chess strategy. To be honest, I don't know a thing about chess (I need to practice with Solitaire Chess!), so I can't explain how it works. But if you search "Torre Attack" on the 'net, you'll find it.

Can you purchase more challenge cards?
We do not sell additional challenge cards. Sorry!
hey I want to give it to someone who has been playing chess for 40 years and is really good. Be honest will he be challenged by it?
That depends. Does he play very well, or has he been playing for 40 years and still sort of sucks at it? Skill is a determining factor here, but I think most chess players will enjoy the challenge.
Would you recomend this for a 7 year old?
Only if your 7 year old has an interest in chess and can be trusted with the small pieces.
Did any of these puzzles make you rage in confusion?
Yes, most of the puzzles we sell have frustrated us greatly at one point or another. We actually
smashed the 36 Cube because it was so mind-twisting.
Do we have to know how to play solitare and chess to play this?
You'll have to learn a little bit about chess moves. "Solitaire" just means you can play it by yourself.
Have you guys tried to solve this? If so, how long does it take? Oh, and do you think solitaire chess is more challenging than kanoodle genius? What about laser maze compared to them both?(ASking for a personal opinion).
Those are all very different kinds of puzzles that are solved in different ways, so it's not really fair to say that one is harder than the other. As for how long they take, that will depend on the skill level of the puzzle and how good you are at solving them! We don't think you'll burn through them very quickly.
Do you make these games?
We do not. Vat19 is a retail store, not a manufacturer.
Will you guys accept a check, since I am very hesitant to put debit card information online?
We do not accept personal checks but we do accept cashiers checks and money orders. For more information please visit the
Mail-in Order Form page.
Is it hard?
Not at first, but the expert level puzzles can be exceptionally difficult. Just like regular chess, it's easy to learn but difficult to master.
If you lose a piece, such as a pawn or bishop, is it possible to replace it?
Not from us, but you could use any chess piece available to you.
Does the book(instructions) tell you how do the pieces move?
Yes, though it would help to actually be familiar with how chess is played if you want to play the single player version.
In the video, i saw you move a pawn sideways, which you can't do in real chess to take other pieces. Are you allowed to do this in Solitaire Chess?
What you saw was actually the rook taking a piece from the former pawn's position. Solitaire Chess follows the same rules as regular chess.
Where is the solitaire in solitaire chess?
"Solitaire" is a term that is generally applied to any strategy game that can be played alone.
know one in my family know's how to play chess and i know it sounds dorky but i did chess club ( because why mum had work ) so could i just play with my self?
Yep! That's the exact reason for Solitaire Chess - you can play by yourself. That's what "solitaire" means - a game for one person.
Can I play this even if I have no idea how to play real chess?
Yes, Solitaire Chess will help you learn and practice for when you want to go up against an opponent.
How do i get the cards aka the chess map out underneath?
Simply lift the lid and remove the cards.

what include in the set ?
The set includes the board, the puzzles, and the chess pieces. Everything you need to play!
is the plastic box tough? i mean, i need to put it in my backpack and take it with me anywhere...
The case is definitely tough enough for that. I wouldn't say the case is tough enough to run over with a car, though.
Are the pieces made of plastic? I don't honestly care, but I just was wondering. Looks fun! I hope I can get it for a special occasion soon. I love puzzles like this.
Yes, the included chess pieces are made of plastic.
I still don't get how you play this game
Maybe
the directions will help clear up any further questions you may have.
Does it include all the pieces of regular chess?
Not all of them, but all the pieces you will need to complete the included puzzles.
Good thing I'm eight years old.....
Yep, Solitaire Chess is recommended for ages 8+.
What are the dimensions of the chess pieces?
The pawn is 1.25" tall, the rook and knight are 1.5" tall, the bishop is 1.75" tall, the queen is just under 2" tall, and the king is 2.25" tall. The base of each piece is about 1" diameter.
so you have to move the way the real chess peice does?
Yes, you would use chess moves.
Are there any other colors for this?
No, Solitaire Chess is only available in the color you see on our website.
How do we determine which orientation to move the pieces in? Depending on the angle of the board in front of you, you'd be able to move pawns forward in two possible directions.
The included puzzles and instructions will fully explain how the pieces are moved. You can easily tell the orientation by the pictures on the board itself.
Will this be challenging for a chess noob?
That depends on the puzzle you choose! The included puzzles range in difficulty from beginner to master.
Does it really need that each move must result in capturing one piece?
That's right. It's a huge part of what makes Solitaire Chess such a challenging game!
Could I use this in the car?
They don't call games like this "travel size" for nothing!
Can it be used for beginners because I'm a beginner?
Absolutely. Solitaire Chess is an excellent way to familiarize yourself with some of the basic movements and tactics used in a standard game of chess.
At near the end of the video you say O.D what does it mean?
OD stands for "over dose".
Am I the only one that thinks this is saying "I need a friend?"
How do you learn the rules of normal chess if you only play this?
I love chess so I know that this is totally different than normal chess.
Where do you find all your things to sell?
The movements are the same as in a traditional chess game, so it can help beginners learn some basic strategies and piece movement. We actually have a team of buyers who spend countless hours searching all over the world for only the most awesome and fun products.
Hey! I love the site! Do you have to move the pieces like you would in regular chess?
Yes, all the pieces are moved just as they would be in a regular game of chess.
What on Earth is the "tourette" move?
Whatever that girl in the video did.
Can you take the king off or have him the only piece left or him with another piece on the board?
The victory conditions will depend on the puzzle you're trying to complete.
Are there packs of additional puzzles available after you have solved the original 60?
We do not carry additional puzzles. Sorry!
Uh in the vid, Does Beth REALLY not know how ta play chess or is she actin?
I'm pretty sure she's only acting.
If you complete all 60 cards, will there be more available in the future
At this time, we have no plans to sell additional challenge card packs.
Would you make a two player solitaire chess?
That would just be regular chess. Also, "solitaire" is by definition just for one person.
Could you guys make eight person chess?
No, but that's not too terribly different from Chinese Checkers or that bizarre version of chess that Sheldon invented on the Big Bang Theory.
What if I get tired of playing with myself?
You could have someone help you, or you could play a standard game of chess with an opponent.
Can you take pieces with different pieces, or do you have to use the same piece on one challenge
No, you can move any piece you want, but you have to take a piece on every move.
OH SNAP. This is awesome. You're awesome. <3
Thanks!
when writing up about it did u mean store instead of stow?i am very confused as to what to do with my game peices...:\
"Stow" is another word for "store".
Hey! IS there an instruction book? I CANNOT play chess
Yes, Solitaire Chess comes with a booklet that explains how each piece can move.
how does it work?
There are 30 double-sided challenge cards that show you where to place certain chess pieces. Then you need to make moves in order to end up with just one chess piece. But remember, a chess piece must be taken on every single move. So, if you start with four chess pieces, you have just three moves to end up with one and win that challenge.
