What do the words taco, cat, goat, cheese, and pizza have in common? Nothing, except that's what's chanted as players lay down their cards in this frustratingly fun frenzy of a card game.
Each player lays one of their cards down face-up and recites the next word in the game's title. If what they say matches the card that they played, it's a free-for-all to slap the card first. The last person to lay their hand on the pile scoops it up and starts a new chant.
It sounds easy, but this game seriously messes with your brain in a way that's frustrating and fun all at once!
Taco! Cat! Goat! Cheese! Pizza! Rather than the incantations of a bizarre, junk food and pet-worshipping cult, this is the pattern of words spoken by the players of the game of the same name.
The difficulty comes when you realize that the cards that you're laying down at the same time have the same names as the words you're speaking, but they don't necessarily match the order. If you've ever tried to read out-loud those mind-bending charts where the color name doesn't match the color of the font (red, blue, green, etc.), then you get the idea.
When the word that's spoken and the card that's laid finally do match, the last person to slap the pile loses the round and collects the cards. The game ends when somebody wins a round after not having any cards in their hands… until you all decide that you've had so much fun that you want to play again!
It's a ridiculous game that's ridiculously fun!
