This ivory Vaugondy sphere features a reprint by Louis XV's geographer (yes, Kings have all sorts of cool people working for them). View the world from the eyes of the 18th century.
The 7 inch diameter sphere rests upon an understated rosewood base (included). So, yes, you can grab the globe and hold the world in the palm of your hand. Try to resist the temptation to pull this maneuver in front of company. It isn't as funny as you think.

Louis XIV, also known as the "Sun King", was Louis XV's grandfather.
Though Louis XV was widely regarded as more intelligent and cultured than the great Louis XIV, numero 15 lacked self-confidence, which led to him being considered one of France's worst monarchs and the beginning of the end of the monarchy.
