Each of the cube-shaped pieces represents a different kind of material (grass, magma, TNT, diamond ore, redstone, gold, furnace, crafting table, jack o' lantern, and watermelon) that can be interchanged, rotated, and re-stacked to create a grid of glowing blocks.

Each block can even be hot-swapped out, immediately illuminating as soon as it is snapped into place, without even turning the light off and on. The ambient effect of your material wall isn't enough to make your room seem like daylight, but it sets a mood for your worldbuilding, and it has a calming effect that just might keep the creepers away from your bed at night.
