can it overheat?
No, too much exposure to the sun will not cause the Sun Jar to overheat.
Is it great ambient light for those nights after a long day at work, with the one you love?
The Sun Jar is perfect for those nights. It was MADE for those nights.
Is it possible to add another battery in the Sun Jar so that it will stay lit more than the 6 hours on one 3 hour full charge? I am thinking that you should offer extra bettery units to it so that we can really use it all night long!
I'm sorry, but extra battery units are not available. I also don't know how you'd go about fitting the SunJar with a second battery. Maybe just buy two and turn the second one on after the first one goes out, you crazy night owl, you.
How long does the sunjar last? as in a year, two years? is it guaranteed?
In theory, the jar should last a lifetime but obviously this can depend on how often it is used, the lifetime of the rechargeable battery, etc. The Sun Jar features a one-year warranty from the manufacturer.
How do you put the candy in? Like a regular jar? :)
Just like a regular jar. Simply unscrew the lid and drop 'em in.
so,if my cat tries to eat it they won't die?
We can't guarantee that.
if it were glowing and you put your hand inside, will your hand burn?
No, as LEDs emit no heat.
can you put a big gummy bear in there?
A couple Big Gummy Bears should fit in the Sun Jar.
How long will this last?
On a full charge, the light will glow for 6 hours. The solar cell itself will last for many years.
If I stored a liquid in it, would it break, or just be all wet?
Do not store liquid in the Sun Jar.
I live in the North and in December, the sun doesn't fully go up. Would the jar still charge with what little sunlight it gets? I was thinking of getting this so that I could have a little sun in the winter..
The jar should still charge but may take a little longer than usual.
Is it possible, considering the watertight lid, that you could position these underwater like a swimming pool and illuminate it to give the water an orange hue or the like?
It's possible, but remember that the Sun Jar would still be full of air and would therefore float.
If it gets wet like rain or somewhat water will it hurt it or, permanetly damage it?
No, the Sun Jar has a watertight lid.
How bright is the light? Also, do you think your gonna make a video?
It's similar to a candle in terms of brightness, as you can see in the photos above. There are no plans for a video.
Can it glow with candy in it. ps i love you guys
Yep! I'm not sure how much light will get through, but it will definitely glow.
wont the candy melt from the light bulb
Yes, it is possible, especially if it's chocolate.
If you put snacks in the Sun Jar, will they melt? Does the Sun Jar give off heat?
The Sun Jar itself does not give off any heat, but keep in mind that you will need to keep it in direct light for it to charge.
Would it still collect the sunlight as fast if I painted it like a TARDIS (from Doctor Who)?
It should as long as you don't cover the solar cell on the top of the jar.
If its a sun jar do you have to put it in the sun then turn it on for it to work or will it work with out puting it in the sun?
The Sun isn't completely necessary, as you could use a very bright incandescent bulb to charge it as well.
About how long the battery will work? If the battery need to be replaced, does the jar work with all kinds of rechargeable batteries?
The Sun Jar ships with a rechargeable battery, but should it ever need replacing, you can just use rechargeable AA batteries, which are very easy to find. How long the battery lasts depends on how often you use it. With average use, we expect the battery to last quite a while.
Can we store nutrigrain bars and candy in the sun jar, and still use it while its charging or is lit?
It depends on what you are storing in the jar. When the Sun Jar is lit, the heat from the lamp will likely melt things like chocolate bars. Things stored in the jar may also block out the light of the lamp.
Is its lifetime long? Because rechargable things tend to lose its brightness and overall peformance over a year.
We don't have an exact number of years, but the solar cell should hold up for a very long time.
Could it work in winter? I mean there's not alot of sun during winter.
If you're in a part of the world where winter means 6 months of darkness, then no, but if you're anywhere else you shouldn't have any problems.
Will you ship to my country?
Can you store gummy bears in this?
I don't see why not. Enjoy!
Is the box of this green and has a photo of the sun jar on it with a "Solar Sun Jar" print (and "Flameless LED Solar Jar Candle" below it on a black bar)? If so, I've read reviews on Amazon that they rust. =\
Actually, it isn't. Similar Sun Jar-like products on Amazon with rusty reviews were all from different manufacturers. We haven't had any complains regarding rust with our Sun Jar.
do it need any battery? Do you know where Macau is? Will you ship there?
The Sun Jar comes with a rechargeable battery. And yes, we can ship to Macau.
Do you have anything that stores moonshine?
Clever! You could check out our 5-for-1 Beer Glass, Bottle of Wine Glass, and Kufra Pitcher.
Why is it so blurry in the images?
Because it's frosted glass and is not transparent.
I was wondering if you cold put those cheap store bought fifty cent goldfish (The ones you get at wallmart as a 5 year old that life for a day) in the sun jar as a cool little decoration or would it be a bad idea.
I'm sure the fish would absolutely hate it. Please do not cram fish into the Sun Jar.
So if you were to Have Candy Bars In there during the day, would they melt if it were Warm?
Only if they were in direct sunlight, warm sunlight. Otherwise the light itself does not emit any heat.
In one reply it was stated that the "LEDs inside the Sun Jar emit no heat whatsoever" but in subsequent replies it was stated that some candies may melt due to "heat from the lamp." Which is it? Where is the heat, from the LED or sun-warmed glass?
I can see why that may not be clear. The light itself emits no heat, but if left out in direct sunlight (such as during charging) the inside of the lamp can get hot enough from the sun to melt some candies. Sorry about the confusion!
How long does the light last for? (How many hours)
It will glow for six (6) hours on a full charge.
I m living in Malaysia, we get hot suns here all year long. Will the jar spoils because of overheating from too much sunlight?
No, too much exposure to the sun will not cause the Sun Jar to overheat.
Will this store light from some other star besides our sun?
Not enough to power the light.
Is it good for a light that will let you see in the dark when you are sleeping? (because I don't call them night lights.)
It's certainly better than no light.
Will it glow with candy in it?
Anything you store in the Sun Jar might block the light from the LEDs. You're still more than welcome to try!
if the LED were to ever break by some chance would i be able (with a little craftiness) replace it with another LED of my choosing?
The manufacturer does not think you would be able to replace the LED yourself. The Sun Jar's "insides" would need to be replaced if the LED broke.
But if it stores sunshine, why does it need batteries?
The rechargeable batteries are where the Sun Jar stores the sunshine!
How illuminous is the sun jar? Can it brighten-up a bedroom?
The Sun Jar casts a soft light similar to a night light or candle. It would not brighten up a room like a regular lamp.
If you store snacks in the Sun Jar can it still be turned on?
Yes, though you might not be able to see the light.
Could I come to your HQ and purchase this and other products with cash?
You can, however we prefer credit cards if possible. Please contact us
here for more information.
can i leave one on a grave and not have to worry about the on off function , it will come on at night and charge during the day?
Yes. You can leave the Sun Jar out all day and it will begin to glow once the sun sets.
Can you give discounts?
We don't have sales or discounts, but we do offer great coupons in each installment of our
email newsletter.
If you sent it to scottland for me,would it break?
It's extremely unlikely. We pack all of our orders very carefully and very rarely is there ever an issue with a product breaking while being shipped.
Six hours of glow time from three hours of direct sunlight... So how many hours of glow time from six hours of direct glowlight? (two jars involved)
We're not really sure, but what we suggest is that you order two of them and test it out! Be sure to let us know what the results are!
If it captures the power of the Sun, and I put a chocolate bar in there, won't the chocolate bar melt?
Yes, it's possible that the heat from the lamp will melt chocolate.
I recently asked about replacing the battery. Turns out that if you lift out the solar panel unit, you can easily access a rechargeable battery.
That's good to know. Thank you for sharing that!
Can you get a Sharpie and draw on the jar? Is it Sharpie-draw-able? I wanna try doodling adorable designs on it. :)
You can but it wouldn't be permanent. The jar is made of glass.
I was expecting a video...where is the video?
We haven't made one. Currently there are no plans to make a video.
Do I need to turn it on to collect light? And what can I do if it's dark that day and I want the light at night? Thanks
In that case you might want to bring it indoors to charge under a lightbulb.
i am very environmentally conscious and i wanted to know if this is actually solar powered? because i don't like using bateries.
Yes, it's actually solar powered. We wouldn't lie about a fundamental feature of the product.
Does it only charge on actual sunlight or will artificial light suffice? Considering you haven't suggested it, I'm going to assume only natural light. "SOLAR" powered after all, right?
Natural sunlight or incandescent bulbs will charge the solar cell.
What is the jar made of?
The jar is frosted glass.
Is there some special rock in there that makes it light up at dark?? Or is it just glow-in-the-dark??
Nope, no magical rocks. Inside the Sun Jar is an energy-efficient LED light that's connected to a rechargeable battery. When light hits the solar power cell, it recharges the battery, which in turn powers the LED light.
Does the light only come in one color?
The Sun Jar is currently only available in one color.
Would candy melt if I put it in the sun with the sun jar?
It depends on the candy but most candies will melt if left out in the sun.
If I were to use this at a power outage, will I be able to see my way through my house. To rephrase, is the light bright enough to see well through the dark?
It'd be bright enough to keep you from stumbling over things, but it wouldn't fill the room like an actual lamp.
Can I put it in my pool?
The waterproof seal on the lid allows you to leave the Sun Jar outside permanently, but we wouldn't recommend putting it in a pool.
Is there any other color of this? :)
Thank you.
The Sun Jar is not available in any other colors. Sorry!
if used for too long, will it give out fumes?
No, it won't give off fumes. A full charge will allow the Sun Jar to glow for about 6 hours, then it will automatically turn off.
Do you have a vat19 store in person?
We do not have any physical Vat19 stores. Sorry!
when recharging the sun jar will i need to lift up the lid, or can i keep it down?
i plan to order it today or tomorrow hopefully.
The top of the lid is semi-transparent, so if you leave it outdoors it will absorb enough light to charge the solar cell inside.
Can ya stick a bag of jelly beans in there?
As long as you can make it fit, I don't see why not.
Can you open it?
The Sun Jar, let's not forget, is a storage jar. So, feel free to toss in candy bars, M&Ms, Caramellos (sooo good), and any other snack that you may enjoy munching on while cradling the Sun Jar during a power outage.
Does it hurt to hold the sun jar after it's gotten the energy, like will it burn?
No, the LEDs inside of the Sun Jar emit no heat whatsoever.
Does it provide enough light to read by?
It can but it wouldn't be the best light for reading at night. We would suggest getting a proper nightlight for that.
Can you open the jar and let it out will it still work?
The jar's lid is what activates the on/off switch, so you'd have to press that button. I'm not really sure what you mean by "let it out" though.
Can I put a label on it (like write on a piece of paper "AWESOMENESS" and tape it on)? Will it still absorb the light? P.S. VAT19 IS AWESOME!!! :3
As long as you don't cover the solar cell it will continue to absorb energy from sunlight.
For the old products that u dont have anymore where can we find them?
No idea, unfortunately. Usually when an item is taken off the site it is because it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.
Do you guys plan to make a video soon, because it would be awesome!
Indeed it would be! However, we do not have plans for a video at this time.
Will it glow if there is candy in it?
Feel free to toss in candy bars, M&Ms, Caramellos, and any other snack that you may enjoy munching on while cradling the Sun Jar during a power outage.
Why didn't you make a video for this?
Some products lend themselves to videos much better than others. We may make a video someday, but as for now there are no plans to do so.
does it actually collect sunshine or is it just activated by sunshine?
Here's the technical nitty-gritty: Inside the jar are a highly-efficient solar cell, rechargeable battery, and low energy LED lamp. Sunlight allows the solar cell to create an electrical current that charges the battery. This stored energy is then used to power the LED lamp when it's dark.
You should think about making it so there is a little co.apartment on top of the light for goodies to be stored in
You already can store goodies in the jar. The lid needs all the space it can get to house the electronics.
why will it only light up when I touch the top of the jar
Because it's supposed to turn on when it detects darkness.
Can i charge the sun jar with a sun jar???
Not very effectively (if at all). LEDs don't give off much energy.
can i leave this out all day and keep it out all night so it lights up my nightly swimming time area :D
Absolutely!
does it come in different colors
No, the Sun Jar is only available in the yellow/orange color you see here.
if u open the lid are there switches
There is one switch under the lid next to the solar panel. You can switch between "Auto", in which the Sun Jar automatically turns on when it gets dark, or "Charge" in which the Sun Jar does not automatically turn on.
Can You Ship these in Philippines?
Yes, we can ship to the Philippines.
Will the light still shine in I put stuff in there?
Yes, although you might not be able to see it because there will be stuff in the way.
Electronic devices like razors can lose battery power if charged for too long. If left collecting sunshine for (hypothetically) 24 hours WITHOUT turning it on, does the battery run the risk of weakening due to being overcharged?
Not that we've noticed or heard about. If left alone in the yard or on a window sill, the Sun Jar will use its charge once the sun goes down. Leaving it turned off will not significantly harm the battery.
Can it break if it fell?
It is glass so yes, technically it is breakable.
Could I fill this with anything else like marbles, small toys etc? Candy isn't really my thing.
You can fill it with whatever you like, we just can't promise that the light will shine through whatever you put in there.
If I filled it with candy/ poopy nutrigrain bars, wouldn't it block out the light when I turn it on? o.O
I'm sure it would. It might still have a nice glow to it though.
If you touch it is it hot or cold?
The Sun Jar does not get hot at all, making it perfectly safe to touch.
When i was reading the thing, I thought I read it has a camera or eye or something that makes it turn off if no ones there?
Nope. It only has a solar cell which collects energy from sunlight.
i should buy one of these....... :D
Yes, you should.
If I expose the sunjar to a really bright light, like a stage light, that's a different colour will it shine with that colour, or will it be lame and be confused and shine like the sunlight colour?
The color of the light used to charge the Sun Jar is not the color of light that it will shine. The bulb inside gives off a yellow/orange glow as seen in our photos.
How long does the battery last when you turn it on?
On a full charge, the Sun Jar will glow for about 6 hours.
Would it break if it fell from a 2 feet distance? What about 3 feet?
That depends on what you're dropping it on. I think the Sun Jar could survive a 2-3 feet drop onto carpet. But concrete? Maybe not. It is a glass jar, after all.
Are you planning on making them in different colors?
There are not currently any plans for more colors. Sorry!
Is there a way to turn off the light if you get tired of it being on?
Yes, Sun Jars have on/off switches which can be toggled.
I plan to use it inside a glass front cabinet in my kitchen which receives indirect sunlight in the afternoon; will it work or will i need to move it into direct sunlight for 3 hrs a day?
The Sun Jar should work a bit, but it would work much more efficiently in direct
sunlight.
What if I don't WANT it to glow in a dark room?
Then don't let it charge. Without a charge your Sun Jar will not glow.
Do you send your Product to other countries??
Yes, Vat19 ships worldwide.
You said we can " ..leave the Sun Jar outside permanently." Does that include the cold winter months here in New York state? How long will the battery last, and is it replaceable?
You shouldn't have any problems leaving it outdoors, although extreme changes in temperature could shorten the life of the Sun Jar's battery. The actual lifespan of the battery would depend on the type and amount of use that it gets, but we would expect it to last for quite a while. Since they're just regular, rechargeable AA batteries, they are replaceable.
Who is the manufacturer? What country is it made in?
We do not disclose our manufacturers. The Sun Jar is made in China.
Does the Sun Jar also glow blue?
The Sun Jar does not glow blue.
How much energy can it store? If you turn it off and leave it in a bright area for several days, would it glow for an extended period of time, or does it collect just a day's worth of energy?
The Sun Jar takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge (in direct sunlight). This provides a continuous glow time of about 6 hours. Leaving it in direct sunlight for more than 3 hours cannot extend the glow time. Once the battery is full, it's full.
