A: Funny. We know you already know this, but these are not real hands covered with graphite. We'd never sell anything like that. Ever. These are made from molds!

Q: can you use the right hand even if you are a leftie?
A: Yes, all parts of the surface can be used to write, so you can hold each Graphite Object at any angle you find comfortable.

Q: How heavy are they? Are they very brittle?
A: Each style of Graphite Object varies in weight. The Right Hand weighs about 4.5 ounces, the Leaf weighs about 2 ounces, and the Quill weighs about 1.5 ounces. While the Graphite Objects could be broken if dropped, they are thick and sturdy enough to withstand normal writing use.

Q: Can the Objects replace a #2 pencil used on test forms?
A: Graphite Objects are about the same "softness" as the #2 pencils however, the manufacturer has never performed a specific testing as done by large pencil companies. Although it will probably be alright, the manufacturer does not recommend it because you would want to use the recommended and acceptable tools for this type of testing.

Q: what about sharpening it? doesn't it dull?
A: To sharpen the Graphite Objects, you can use a sharpener or write/scribble at an angle to sharpen a point. In cases where you need a finer point, you could use a knife, but use extreme caution when doing so.

A: The seashell Graphite Object was discontinued by the manufacturer.

A: We've "sharpened" them by scribbling at an angle to create a point. You could also try using a sharpener made for larger pencils. If you need a very fine point, you could use a knife, but please use extreme caution when doing so.

Q: If you set it down on paper and went away, would't it smudge the paper?
A: Unless the Graphite Object somehow got up on its own and started dancing across and drawing on the paper (which would be a sight to see!), then no. Just setting the Graphite Object on a piece of paper won't cause much smudging, if any at all.

Q: Does it get on you
A: No, the special process used to make the Graphite Objects ensures that they will not rub off on your hands when you use them. We're not quite sure how it works, but it does!

Q: if graphite is the highest grade of coal, does that mean my graphite object made out of smushed dead plants and animals?!
A: We don't sit around studying minerals all day, but good ol' Wikipedia does mention that graphite is considered the highest grade of coal. Based on that and the fact that coal is made when decomposing organic material is under extreme pressure for millions of years, we're going to say yes.

A: Haha, that's a pretty awesome idea. Unfortunately there are currently no plans to carry giant eraser sculptures.

A: It's actually lead that can be poisonous. Most pencils today contain graphite, like the Graphite Object, and are not poisonous.

Q: why is the hand so much more expensive than the others?
A: The Right Hand sculpture is more expensive than the others because of its weight (it is heavier than the others), and because of the level of detail (it takes much more time to form and finish).

A: The Graphite Objects do not contain ink. The entire object is made out of graphite!
