I've never flown a kite before, would this be to hard for me?
Not at all. With even a slight breeze it's very easy to get these kites aloft. They're ideal for both novice and professional kite flyers.
Can they get wet? (because it rains on most windy days in Indiana)
Nylon has a natural tendency to repel water, so getting them wet isn't something you need to worry about. With that being said, you probably shouldn't fly a kite when it's raining.
How long does it last?
There isn't a specific number of days, months, or years that we can provide since it will ultimately depend on how well you take care of your kite. Still, the fiberglass frame and nylon material are durable enough that you should get years of use and enjoyment before even the slightest signs of wear become apparent.
I was curious how big the ship is compared to the dragon. The dragon is 6 ft long right so it the ship bigger, smaller, or the same size??
They're both the same size, as the manufacturer also counts the long tail attached to the back of the ship in their total length.
When completely assembled how wide is wing span, and how long is the Dragon. Is it easy to assemble?
The Dragon's wingspan and body length are both 6 ft. Assembly isn't too difficult and there are illustrated instructions that make the process much easier.
How did you film the kites from above(0:26)
Drones, baby! Vat19 has entered the arena of 21st century warfare... I mean... advertising!
Is it possible to light the dragon on fire and then fly it?
No. There wouldn't be anything to catch the wind if the sails are incinerated.
How did you get the high shots in the video?
We used our fancy new quadcopter to get those aerial shots. Pretty rad, right?
How did you get the camera angles in the air?
We used the Official Vat19 Quadcopter Drone.
Are you going carry something else then a ship and dragon?
Maybe someday! If we do they'll be listed at the top of the page with the other styles.
If the pirate ship kite is over 6 feet tall, could I stand in it when it's not flying?
Not without damaging the frame.
i bought the 3d dragon kite. Sailed it on a windy day at the beach in probably about 20 mph winds. It drifted to the left so badly that it wouldn't stay off the ground very long. How can I fix this problem?
It's hard to say without seeing it for ourselves. All we can recommend is to double-check every part to make sure it is assembled correctly.
Do you have a store in Las Vegas, NV that I can check these out and buy?
We're sorry, but we don't have any physical stores that you can visit. Vat19 is an online business.
But what if there are kite-eating trees around me?
Don't be a Charlie Brown. Try flying your kite somewhere that DOESN'T have kite-eating trees. You'd think that he would have learned his lesson after 66 years.
What is this made off?
We include a description of the construction materials at the top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section. The frames are made of fiberglass and the kite material is made from durable rip-stop nylon.
Could I make a tiny little person out of paper, stick it on the kite, and fly it just the same?
Sure, a piece of paper would probably work, although you most likely wouldn't be able to see it when it's 100ft above you.
Why not use the dragons from How To Train Your Dragon?
Because licensing is expensive, yo. Besides, we think our dragon looks a lot more fearsome than the flying geckos in those movies.
Do you have to un-assemble the product to put it in storage or does it fold to fit.
It depends on the storage you have in mind. You can take certain pieces of the frame out to let the wings/sails collapse in without dismantling the entire kite.
I understand there is a 10' wide dragon so you sell the larger kite in the 10' size?
I'm sorry, but the only sizes we carry are those shown at the top of the page.
I was gifted the dragon w/instructions . ...
Where can I go to find info?
In this case the best option would be to contact the manufacturer directly for a copy of the assembly instructions.
What would happen if I attached the air blimp from your store to the bottom of the dragon would it still fly on wind or with the controller?
The motorized gondola you're referring to is nowhere near strong enough to lift or propel a kite.
2-in-1! question 1: does it go 3d only when you start flying it? or does it always stay 3d? Question 2: how compact is it when you fold it up? (if you have the dimensions, use standard, please :) )
The kite looks exactly the same on the ground as it does in the air. It's not being inflated by the wind or anything. Being that the kite is made from fabric and fiberglass rods, it's highly compact because it's almost completely flat when dismantled.
Is it easier to fly than a regular kite?
I would say that it's more or less the same as flying a regular kite and not necessarily any easier.
Is there replacement pieces we can buy if some are lost?
I'm sorry but we do not sell replacement parts.
I will be sending my order (one of each style) to Brazil. What are the package dimensions? I need to know so I know how much shipping will cost. I don't want you to send it to Brazil; I will send it with other items in a Christmas package.
Each kite weighs a little over one pound. The package dimensions for one kite are 42" x 6" x 0.75", and an order for 1-2 kites would ship in a box that measures 48" x 6" x 6".
Can it carry a lego minifigure?
Probably. Minifigs don't weigh very much. You might even be able to go up as far as a GI Joe (5") but that might make the kite unstable if it's not centered.
Why are these so awesome and do you guys plan on adding more styles?
I think the reason for why they're so awesome is self-evident: they're giant freakin' kites! We're not sure at the moment if we'll have more styles, but if these prove to be popular we'll definitely consider looking to carrying more.
Does it fly higher or faster depending on the kite?
Nope. How high and fast these kites fly depends on the wind.
Arr they flying high? (pun intended)
Aye matey! They be the scourge of the skies!
Who loves to fly kites the most out of everyone at vat19?
I don't know if there's any way to measure who loves it the most, but I can't think of a single person here who DOESN'T like flying kites!
Which is easier to maneuver?
Both the Pirate Ship and the Dragon are very easy to fly and are both amazingly responsive.
Is it relatively sturdy? for example if it hit a tree, will the branches easily puncture?
SuperSize 3D Kites are built to last. Their lightweight fiberglass airframe helps maintain a stable flight and can withstand a beating in the air and on the ground.
If I buy a Dragon kite, would I consider myself a dragon tamer?
I would say yes!
Could put in a small stuffed amimal in so it can ride?
Maybe in a hurricane. You would need much stronger winds to provide enough lift for the kite to be able to carry a stuffed animal.
I haven't flown a kite at all before, how do I HAVE to have a breeze in order to fly it?
The breeze is what provides lift. Imagine a kite as something that the wind would otherwise blow away, but is instead held in place with a string.
Could you include any video or information on how to assemble and store the kites? It looks like it would be awkward or a hassle.
That information is included with the instructions that come with the kit. Storage isn't that difficult, as the dragon's wings and the ship's mast can be removed easily.
Is there any more kits to choose from?
The only styles we have at this time are those shown at the top of the page.
how long is the line of the kite extended at full length? (i'm Aussie so in meters please!)
51.8 m. We actually list this information at the top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section.
This looks so cool! Could you replace the sting and handle included with a different one so it could fly higher?
Yes, you can use different strings if you prefer, though it is not required.
If I got one of these kites how would I pay for it , when it gets to my house?
No, you would pay for it in full when you check out online. We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, Checkout by Amazon, cashier's checks, and money orders. We do not offer cash on delivery.
With a high speed of wind, could it be alright if I put a gopro cam on the kite and have it fly?
You'd need some seriously strong wind to get a kite with a GoPro attached to it off the ground. We can't say for sure if it would work very well or not.
Vat19 with another awesome product!
These kites look amazing and i would really like to purchase one.
So my question was i found that the company that makes these kites make other kites (3d ones) so maybe you could add more to this list?
If these prove to be popular we might just do that. The problem is that our warehouse has a finite amount of space, which unfortunately means that we can't carry every product that each of our manufacturers offer.
Hello, do you ship abroad?
We do! You can find a list of all the countries we offer shipping to
here.
Can you attach this to a car roof and fly it off of that?
Theoretically you could, but don't forget that the force exerted on the kite as well as the string goes up as the wind increases. Go too fast and you run the risk of snapping the string and/or damaging the kite.
Why isn't the pirate ship called the Jolly Roger? I mean, it's a flying pirate ship!
Its sails do feature a skull and crossbones, displaying a stylized version of the Jolly Roger, but don't forget that the term "Jolly Roger" refers to the flag and not the name of a particular ship. It's worth noting though that not all pirates flew the Jolly Roger. The flags flown by pirates were often unique to the ship. Thomas Tew's flag featured a man's arm holding a saber, while Blackbeard's flag featured a devil spearing a heart. It was the 18th century equivalent of an online avatar.
As the captain of this flying vessel, it's ultimately up to you to christen it with a proper name.
Will it crash in hot line wind?
I'm not sure what "hot line wind" is. Google didn't return any results. We don't want you flying your kite in a hurricane or anything if that's what you mean.
I want to get this kite but its a bit expensive, do prices rise and drop?
No, but we DO send out coupons twice each month in our free
email newsletter. Also keep an eye on our social media profiles (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) for contests, giveaways, and other awesome stuff!
What would happen if you put a flamethrower on the dragon what would happen?
Nothing would happen because then it'd be too heavy to fly.
its a kite... but 3d?
Sure! Haven't you seen box kites before?
