The Big Belly Dinosaur Bank (aka Coinasaurus) is a wonderful piggy...er...dino bank for your kid's change. Simply feed a quarter, nickel, dime, or penny into the Coinasaurus' mouth and watch it zig-zag into the dino's belly.

Each Coinasaurus Big Belly Dinosaur Bank is hand-made in the US and is approximately 20" tall. Big Belly Banks hold up to 970 quarters ($242.50). To open the bank's Dino belly, simply unscrew the center bolt.

We'll admit that we're huge fans of piggy (or dinosaur) banks (check out the talking Piggy Bank), but we don't go about choosing which coin banks to carry all willy-nilly-like. There has to be a little something...dare I say...magical about the bank before we start trying to shove it down our customer's throats.

The Big Belly Bank Coinasaurus certainly fits the bill! If those items are the same size and shape of a quarter, nickel, dime, or penny, then yes! The Big Belly Bank is not designed for "rail traffic" that is larger than a quarter. You can easily open the belly if you want to add dollar bills.

Question: How do I open the Dinosaur's big belly?

First, you'll need to purchase the Big Belly Bank Coinasaurus from Vat19.com. Once your shiny Vat19.com box arrives and you've opened the Triple-B-C (that's industry lingo for the Big Belly Bank Coinasaurus), you'll find that there is a long bolt that holds together the two sides of the clear belly. Unscrew that bolt to open 'er up.

Question: How do the coins stay in the track?

The track is grooved and can only accept coins in one orientation. When they reach the bottom of the Coinasaurus' track, they drop into the Dinosaur's big belly.

We aren't familiar with UK coins, so we don't know for sure if the Coinasaurus would be able to eat them. It can eat coins up to the size of a U.S. quarter, which has a diameter of 2.426 centimeters. As long as the coins aren't any wider or thicker than a U.S. quarter, then this Big Belly Bank should be able to eat them.

How do I get the belly only?

Unfortunately, we do not sell individual bellies for the Big Belly Dinosaur Bank.

The Big Belly Bank is designed to eat American coins, the largest of which is a quarter. An American quarter has a diameter of 2.426 cm and is .175 cm thick. If the coins are equal to or smaller than those dimensions, then the Coinasaurus should be able to snack on them.

A U.S. quarter has a diameter of 2.426 centimeters. As long as your crazy Canadian money is smaller than that (and relatively thin), it should go down smoothly.

It won't. If a coin is large enough to get jammed in the dinosaur's neck then it is too large to fit in its mouth at all.

How do you get the coins out in a faster way?

The fastest way to get the coins out is to unscrew the center bolt that holds the two sides of the belly together.

If I get one of these, I want to paint purple spots on him. What kind of paint would you recommend for wood? I want to make sure it's not lead paint or anything like that.

I'm fairly confident that lead-based paints aren't even available anymore. You could use acrylic paint.

It says in your FAQ that it can't eat a Toonie but in the video there is clearly a Toonie in the belly when it is opened up. (0:42-0:46) I just thought it would be funny to point that out!

We think you might be talking about a quarter that is near the upper left of the screw. Depending on the lighting and shadows, it does look like the coin has a different colored center and outer ring. There's also a penny sitting on top of a quarter that may also look like a Toonie.

The US coin with the largest diameter is the Quarter (24.26 mm or .955 in) and the thickest US coin is a Nickel (1.95 mm or .077 in). Although the Big Belly Bank was designed for US coins, a coin that has a diameter smaller than a Quarter and also is not thicker than a Nickel should fit. Toonies will not fit.

I'm sorry, I know you already addressed this, but I'm convinced there's a toonie in that dino's belly. If it could be for-sure confirmed it would work, I'd be swayed to get one. I'd mail you a toonie to test it out.

We double checked with the manufacturer, and the Big Belly Bank does not "eat" toonies. Sorry, we do not sell a version that can accommodate Canadian coins.
