Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How long will it take before I'm eating my own delicious apples?
Answer: Growing a tree from a seed takes a long time. Remember, it took you a long time before you could tie your own shoes. After 2-3 months, the seeds will become seedlings and can be transplanted outdoors. It may take 6-10 years before your apple tree starts to bear fruit.
Question: What kind of apples can I expect to grow?
Answer: The seeds in the Apple Tree-to-Be Kit are from Ralls Janet apples which tend to have a thin greenish-yellow skin covered with pinkish-red striping. As far as taste is concerned, the yellowish flesh of the Ralls Janet is dense, crisp, and tender with a tart-sweet balance of flavor. The Ralls Janet and Red Delicious are the parents of the popular (and delicious) Fuji variety of apples.
Question: How big will the tree grow?
Answer: That depends on many factors. However, this variety of apple tree can reach heights of 80 feet with a 20 foot spread. A little pruning can easily control the size.
Question: When should I plant my tree?
Answer: 20 years ago! OK, if you don't have a DeLorean, tomorrow is the next best choice. Detailed instructions for how to grow your own apple tree are included in the package itself.
