Overview

Star Wars Metal Earth Models are small-scale replicas of the machines from the ever-popular sci-fi franchise.

Each model is made from a pair of completely flat laser-etched steel sheets. To build, pop out the pieces and then bend, fold, and assemble them together using the illustrated instructions as a guide.

Metal Earth models require no special tools or glue thanks to their ingenious slot and tab design. Because they're laser-etched, each palm-sized Star Wars 3D Model is stunningly detailed.

Choose from four models: TIE Fighter, R2-D2, Millennium Falcon, and AT-AT.

No tools, glue, or solder required

Assembling a Star Wars 3D Metal Model Kit requires no special tools, glue, or metal solder.

However, we have found that a pair of pliers or tweezers can make precise assemblies a tad easier. In our experience, it'll take you a few hours to complete each model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do the completed models move?

Answer: No, the models are for display purposes. Incidentally, they look great atop a Levitron.

Question: Exactly how long will they take to build?

Answer: Depending on your model-building skill, it could take you several hours. Each of the two-sheet Star Wars models are of equal difficulty. If you're looking for something easier, a few of our other Metal Earth models are made from only one sheet of steel.

Question: What is the recommended age?

Answer: The manufacturer recommends solo builders be ages 14+. However, younger children could build these models with adult assistance.

Burning Questions: You Ask and We Answer

Burning Questions: You ask and we answer!
Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff:
Nerd alert but the tie fighters have straight wings so this is a tie intercepter used by Darth Vader at the end of "A New Hope".
Actually, a TIE Interceptor has dagger-like wings which taper forward. Vader's ship was a TIE Advanced. The term "TIE Fighter" was actually a colloquialism which could refer to any Imperial TIE vessel. For example, the traditional flat-winged TIE Fighters from "A New Hope" are actually called TIE/LN Starfighters.
Will this help me become a Jedi, like my father before me? Also what are you guys for the Empire or the Rebellion?
Empire all the way. The Republic was so inept that it allowed a trade disagreement on Naboo to lead into a galactic civil war a few years later. Say what you will about the Emperor, but he got stuff done.
If you drop a finished model will it break?
It's possible. These models were meant to be set on a shelf and admired, not thrown around the room.
How do the pieces stay together?
There are tiny metal tabs which fit into slots and are then bent into place.
Do the leg joints on the AT-AT move?
No, all of the models are for display purposes only.
Are they as awesome as they are in the picture?
You'd better believe it! In fact, they're even MORE awesome in person!
Seeing these models do they have dashes on the metal template to fold?
Not always, however the instructions are very clear about which pieces need to be folded as well as how to fold them.
I know this isn't a question and I don't mean to complain but the model you called a TIE fighter is actually a TIE advanced x-1, Darth Vader's ship. yeah I'm a star wars super fan.
So am I, and you're slightly mistaken. The TIE series were all starfighters, and the run of the mill fighters widely used by the Empire during the era of the Galactic Civil War, the TIE Fighters to which you are referring, were officially called TIE/LN Starfighters.

The term, TIE Fighter, was simply common nomenclature, similar to how we might refer to the F-16, F-35, or MIG-29 as "Fighter Jets" even though they're all different planes. The entire TIE series can be referred to as TIE Fighters - it is not an official Imperial designation - but not all TIE Fighters are the same.

It's pedantic, sure, but there's nothing inherently wrong with calling the TIE Advanced a "TIE Fighter" because, technically, it is. As is the TIE/LN, TIE/IN, and so on.
My brother loves building and is a star wars fanatic is this a good present for him for his birthday?
A brother who likes both Star Wars and building things? It's a long shot but he just might enjoy being able to build Star Wars vehicles.
Can these be put in fish tanks?
Perhaps if you treat them with some sort of coating.
What's the best way to break the pieces apart Awsome
A small pair of snips or wire cutters worked best when I was building my AT-AT. Some of the pieces are very delicate and should not be pushed out.
Do you deliver to the UK?
Yes, we ship internationally.
How flexible are they?
The pieces are fairly flexible, so you'll have to be careful not to bend them too much during assembly.
If someone does not have pliers, what else can they use.
A hemostat would work just as well.
Are the stands on the millenium falcon and tie optional? IE: Can I buy a levitron thingy and have them float?
You don't have to attach the base, but you cannot float anything on the Levitron without the Levitron's base.
Can you take it apart and start all over again?
Not easily. The models aren't meant to be taken apart once they're constructed.
Where's the USS Enterprise?
Not in this franchise.
Is the Star Wars 3D Metal Model Kits are from the makers of Metal Works Model?
Yes they are!
I'm younger than 14 years old. Does that effect the model while building?
No, but generally speaking, younger children don't have the patience or motor skills that small, precise models require. If you think you can do it, you're certainly welcome to give it a try.
Is the metal magnetic?
Yep! Steel is magnetic, so a magnet will definitely stick to the models.
Are these the 3-D Models I've been looking for?
They are. Luckily Han found them and was able to keep them safe until Rogue Squadron found them the following morning.
I know the skill levels say moderate on all of them, but is a certain one or two easier to build than the others?
Not really, to be honest. They're all equally challenging.
I have one of these, and they are not easy to put together. any tips?
Patience. They may be made of metal, but they're still intricate models.
Will it fit on the levitron?
They certainly will!
What is the size of these?
There is a chart half-way down the page which includes the dimensions of each model.
What kind of laser are you using to cut these out? This is amazing!
We're not the manufacturer, so I don't know the specs of the machinery they use, but laser cutting has been around for a few decades now. It's certainly not one of the lasers you'd use for a PowerPoint presentation, though.
Does the At-At have a hole in his back???
Yes, but that's just so larger pieces of Imperial hardware can be loaded inside. AT-AT stands for All-Terrain Armored Transport, and is used for the moving of troops and equipment.
What if you screw up with the pliers, can u fix it?
Assuming you didn't actually break the sheet of metal, sure. Please be careful not to break the pieces, as they're very thin and far from indestructible.
Is the model strong enough to withstand being played with by a 4-5 year old?
Possibly, but the models weren't designed to be "played with". These models are meant to be built and displayed.
Are they available in larger sizes? I want one that is bigger.
Metal Earth Models are not available in larger sizes. Think of these as the "bonsai" of model building.
Do you ship to sweden?
Yes, we ship internationally.
Do these models come with the levitation stand that R2-D2 was seen with in the video? (at 0:40 - 0:43 ) Since it is likely they don't, is it available for purchase on vat19.com? I dearly hope so!
will it come apart if it falls?
It's definitely a possibility.
Are Metal Earths and Metal Works the same thing?
You've got it! They're from the same manufacturer and everything.
Is it pretty much Star Wars Metal Works? Cause it seems like it.
You nailed it!
Are they easy to make?
They can certainly be a challenge. Depending on your model-building skill, it could take you several hours. Each of the two-sheet Star Wars models are of equal difficulty. If you're looking for something easier, a few of our other Metal Earth models are made from only one sheet of steel.
this is off topic but how many burning questions have been awnsered?
As of right now, we have answered 76,825 burning questions. Craziness!
Can you make them without pliers?
Not easily. The individual pieces are held together by small metal tabs that need to be bent into position. Fortunately pliers aren't terribly difficult to find.
Would it be ok to use glue? I know it's it's optional but you could use glue right?
There's really no need to. On top of that, glue would not stick very well to the metal.
Will make metal works with different colors?
There are no plans for more colors. Since silver is the most common color to represent something being made of metal, it's unlikely that there will be any more colors.
Aren't these the same as the ones at Disneyland?
Exactly the same, which is appropriate since Star Wars is now a Disney property.
Would it come with a come with a plier?
No. You will need to provide your own pliers.
What is the minimum age requirement?
There isn't one, but the manufacturer suggests 14 and up. This information can always be found at the top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section.
Would you be able to range them from easiest to most challenging to build, or are they all pretty even in difficulty?
They're all ranked as being of "moderate" difficulty.
my "MAN TEACHER" loves star wars... But he has sausage fingers will this be hard to put together for him?
It might prove to be a little bit of a challenge but it's nothing tweezers or pliers wouldn't help with.
Are the stands removable?
Yes, the ships can be taken off the stands for closer inspection.
How much would one of these models weigh?
Virtually nothing. Each model is less than an ounce.
What happens when you break a piece off?
It will seriously complicate the building process. Try not to break any pieces.
when you going to show the X-wing model?
We do not currently carry the X-Wing. Sorry!
Are they sharp edges ?
No, the edges are not sharp.
Are the edges sharp?
Not at all. That would be a pretty sadistic model kit.
Is this licensed by Disney?
They're licensed by Lucasfilm, which is itself owned by Disney. Lucasfilm didn't cease to exist when it was purchased by Disney.
Is it hard to get together?
It is not difficult, but it will take some time.
Which of those models would be the hardest to assemble or the easiest?
They're all equally challenging to build. In fact, they're all in the same difficulty category offered by the manufacturer.
How detailed are they exactly?
Umm... very? Check out the photos above!

Please excuse the shameless cross promotions!
