Overview
The USB Drink Warmer and 4-port USB hub is probably the most useful USB-powered device we've come across. Not only does it provide several useful functions, but it actually makes a ton of sense for it to be USB powered.
Many of us enjoy tasty beverages while working on a computer. The USB Drink Warmer will keep that drink warm! In addition to its drink warming abilities, the USB Drink Warmer also includes four USB 2.0 ports and a backlit LCD display which shows the temperature of the heating pad (in F or C) as well as the current time.

USB Drink Warmer keeps your coffee warmer, longer
The USB Drink Warmer and 4-port Hub is really hot right now. Literally, it's really hot. Not like scorching hot, but definitely toasty enough to keep even the most grandé coffee mug at a good temp.
Of course, with the USB Drink Warmer and 4-port Hub, you don't have to guess the temperature of the warming plate because it's displayed on the front of its backlit LCD screen.
Once fully heated, it keeps a temp between 122° and 140° F. In addition to being a great drink warmer, this device also functions as a USB 2.0 hub. There are two ports on each side of the warmer.
Plug the USB Drink Warmer into your computer's USB port and it heats up. You can then put any object on top of it that you want to keep warm. Vat19.com and the manufacturer recommend a coffee mug. We're not going to be held responsible if you put your tongue on it.

So, you've sauntered into work on Monday at about 9:30am (the line at S'Bucks was a gazillion miles long) and just as you're about to log on to YouTube, your boss comes in barking questions like a maniac. You can't even manage a sip of your coffee before you must defend yourself. By the time His Highness has left, your coffee is tepid. Which is narsty. Is it dangerous to possess this great power?
Asking if the heating aspect of the USB Drink Warmer is dangerous is akin to asking if a microwave is dangerous. No, unless you put your cat inside of it. Let's be sensible. We're dealing with heat and electricity here. So, if you like to work on your laptop in the bathtub, maybe you shouldn't connect the USB Drink Warmer. Just a thought.

The USB Drink Warmer and 4-port Hub couldn't be easier to use. Plug the cord into a USB port on your computer and enjoy how it keeps your drink warm. But, for those of us who like to fuss with things, the USB Drink Warmer doesn't disappoint.
The USB Drink Warmer features two on-off switches on the rear. One turns the heating element on and off and the other toggles the backlight on the display.
On the underside of the unit are several buttons for setting the clock (as well as the alarm) and toggling the temperature display between Fahrenheit and Centigrade. This is also where you'd find the battery compartment. The USB Drink Warmer uses a 1.5V button cell (AG13) which is included. The battery is used solely to store your clock settings.
Controls for the USB Drink Warmer are found on both the back and underside of the unit.
The USB Drinker Warmer is also a USB Hub!
Not only does this awesome little USB device keep your coffee warmer (or any drink, for that matter), but it's also a 4-port USB 2.0 hub. So, you don't have to dedicate a USB port on your computer in order to keep your drinks warm. You actually gain 4 more ports. Sweeet.
A side note: The more devices you plug into the hub, the more the temperature of the heating plate will be reduced. If you went to a Radio Shack and purchased a 5V DC adapter, you could plug that into the back of the USB Drink Warmer in order to avoid this issue. Of course, the temperature decline only occurs if the device you have plugged into the port doesn't have its own power supply.
Basically, the USB Drink Warmer converts the electricity it draws from your computer into heat. If you add a bunch of a peripherals that are also drawing electricity, the temp is going to fall. If this is still confusing, go back to flossing your cat's teeth.

1. Will the USB Drink Warmer actually keep my drink warm?
Answer: Most definitely. It gets quite toasty (122 - 144 degrees Fahrenheit).
2. Does the USB Drink Warmer have an on/off switch?
Answer: Yup. So, if you've plugged in your USB Drink Warmer and it's still not heating up, you should probably turn it on. (Hint: check the switch). It also has a switch for the backlight of the LCD display.

Does this cause an added load to the computer function that might result in the computer itself running hotter from powering this device?
We consulted our manufacturer and we were told that using the USB Drink Warmer will not cause your computer to run hotter.
About the USB drink warmer. What types of cups/mugs does it support (paper, glass, plastic, rubber, metal, etc..)
If a glass is able to hold hot coffee, it will be safe with the USB Drink Warmer. The best mugs or glasses for use with the warmer are those that aren't insulated (as it makes heat transfer more difficult) and those which do not have a raised area under the glass that prevents the bottom from coming into complete contact with the heating plate.
Do you know of ANY brick-and-mortar stores that sell ANY of your products?
In most cases, no. Because we're not the manufacturer for most of the items on Vat19.com, we do not have access to lists of their other retail accounts.
How many WATTS ??
The power usage on the USB Drink Warmer with 4-port Hub is 2.5W and 5V DC. Please note that the warmer draws its power from your computer via the USB cable, not from an electrical outlet.
Lets say I forget to turned this off when I leave the office does it turn off when you turn your computer off?
If your computer goes into sleep mode, the USB Drink Warmer may or may not remain powered. This can vary by computer. If you completely power off your computer, then anything plugged into your USB ports should not be receiving power. It is always best to remember to turn off the USB Drink Warmer when not in use.
How long is the "warm-up" time before it reaches the advertised temperatures?
The USB Drink Warmer warms up very quickly. It takes approximately 2-3 minutes for it to reach its maximum temperature.
Is the body of the USB Drink Warmer (not the heating element) made of plastic or metal? (Read: Will I look cheap if I give this item as a Christmas gift?)
Good questions! The body of the USB Drink Warmer is made of plastic. If the entire body were made of metal, it could be a little dangerous (or at least frightening) if you accidentally brushed up against that hot exterior. On to the second question: Will this make you look cheap? I guess it depends on who you're giving it to. If they enjoy a warm cup of coffee, I think they'll absolutely love the USB Drink Warmer.
how many watt? do you have this warmer but goes to outlut not USB?
The power usage in the USB Drink Warmer is 2.5W and 5V DC. We do not currently have a wall outlet version.

The manufacturer states that the maximum current of each USB port is 500mA.
If it draws energy away from the computer, might it help to cool the computer down? Also, does it generally drain a lot of energy?
The USB Drink Warmer is not intended to help cool down a computer. The USB Warmer's maximum power is 2.5W/H. Assuming an average laptop's power consumption is 20W/H-30W/H, the USB Warmer would decrease the battery life by about 10%.
You guys are hilarious! Anyway, i'm looking for a warmer that will turn off after say 15 minutes of inactivity to prevent burnt coffee. I actually used to have a Mr Coffee warmer that did this.
Actually, because the power output of a USB port is somewhat limited, the USB Drink Warmer will keep your coffee warm, but it will not get hot enough to scorch it.
Can I plug a flash drive in it?
Of course. It is, after all, a USB hub.

A small spill probably wouldn't be a big deal, but if you spilled a lot of liquid onto your Drink Warmer/USB Hub it could damage the heating element or electronics inside.

Absolutely, but that might defeat the point of the convenience of having it right next to you in the computer.

We aren't rocket scientists nor are we the manufacturers of this product, so we don't know the technical details on exactly how the USB Beverage Warmer produces heat. We just know that it works. We also don't know of any ways to make your own USB Beverage Warmer with just a regular USB cord.
Does this come with an adapter? If not, is there a specific adapter that would work? I know in defeats the purpose of it being USB powered but still...never hurts to ask...
An adapter is not included. The warmer has a DC port, so you could buy an adapter.
If you where to plug 1 into the computer and 1 in each extra USB in the thing 27 times you would have 432 devices(is my math correct?) and if you where to make it so the power doesn't go down you would have 60,480 degrees total cool huh
I'm not sure how the heat would increase without extra amperage going through the USB. Even if you could do that the materials inside the device would eventually fail.
How much friction does the base have? Is it good for all flat surfaces? Rugs, carpets, tables, floors and sideways on your curtains or blinds alike?
The USB Drink Warmer has little rubber pads on the bottom which prevents it from sliding around your desktop or table.
If I put a piece of paper on it, will it catch on fire?
The heating element does not get hot enough to ignite a piece of paper, but for safety's sake we would not recommend putting anything other than a ceramic mug or cup onto the USB Drink Warmer.
Is it ok to use with the "I Am Not a Paper Cup"?
Yes it is perfectly safe to use with the I Am Not A Paper Cup, but because of the dual walled insulation of the Paper Cup, it might not be as effective.
The microwave is 10 feet away in the kitchen and I have to leave my room to use it, so inconvenient (ugh social interaction)! Could I set an unopened can of Spaghetti-O's on this, wait a while, and then eat them WARM straight from the can at my desk?
The USB Beverage Warmer is intended to slow down the natural cooling process and keep a drink hotter for longer rather than heating up something room temperature. It definitely doesn't have the heating power of a microwave. Looks like you're going to have to walk 10 feet!
How hot does this warmer get? Because I've cooked an egg on a drink warmer before. Does it get hot enough for me to cook an egg or mabye even bacon?
The maximum heat is about 140° F. Even if that could cook food, we don't recommend doing that as it could get inside of the warmer and ruin it. It is not intended to cook food.
Does it come with a cord that i can plug into an outlet instead of the computer?
No but if you have an AC-to-USB adapter, such as a phone charger, you can use that instead.
Can it be made warmer? I don't find it keeps my tea very warm at all. it says it's at 48.5 degrees celcius but it doesn't seem to be enough to keep it warm. I can touch the warming plate with my hand, it's hot but not so hot that I can't touch it.
The warmer slows down the cooling process, but it will not keep your drink warm indefinitely. The temperature cannot be adjusted.
I'm in college and we're not allowed to light candles because of the open flame. However, people have been able to use warming devices to melt the candle wax and have candles in their rooms. Is the USB Drink Warmer capable of doing this?
We haven't tried it, but honestly we wouldn't recommend it either. Not only is it potentially unsafe, but the USB Warmer does not really get hot enough to sustain melted wax.
What types of materials are safe to place on the USB cup heater?
If the cup can handle hot coffee, then it is safe to use with the USB Drink Warmer.

The USB Drink Warmer with 4-port USB Hub does not have any software or drivers to speak of. It should work with any operating system.
What do I do if my computer at work has a green monochrome screen? It still has a USB port, despite what you say above.
If you have a USB port that functions, the USB Drink Warmer should work just fine.

The USB Drink Warmer is water resistant, so a small spill will be okay, but complete submersion may ruin it.

It's not a hot plate. It essentially slows down cooling rather than increasing temperature.

You can keep any drink you want heated. The heating element doesn't know the difference between coffee and anything else.

Not that we've noticed. The heating element does not get that hot, nor does it need to, as it is meant to maintain heat rather than heat up something cold.

No. The USB Drink Warmer does not get hot enough to be used as a hotplate.

We haven't heard any complaints of weird smells coming from the USB Drink Warmer and none of us here have noticed one.

Unless personally modded, Commodore 64 systems do not have a USB input, so the USB Drink Warmer would not work.

The buttons to do so are on the bottom of the unit. Simply hold the "Set" button, press the "Mode" button until you reach the mode you want to change, and then adjust the value by pressing the "Adj" button.

That was tested with a standard 11 oz ceramic coffee mug.

Sure. Just turn it off so that it doesn't make the drink hot. Seriously though, no, it is not capable of cooling a drink.
When log off from the computer, will the heater still heat?
If the computer is still on or if your USB ports still receive power from the power supply when the PC is turned off, yes. Not all devices are the same so you will have to check your own computer to find the answer.

Sure. The plate does not get THAT hot. It's certainly not going to get any hotter than the hot drink you already have in it.
Would this still work for a larger mug? lets say with a 3.5" diameter bottom. (I use one of those big ones with the US flag on it.)
Not as well as a mug that fits over the hot plate properly.

I'm not really sure what you mean. It's a USB hub, meaning that as long as it's plugged into your PC you can access the contents of your mobile device.

The USB Drink Warmer does not charge and must be plugged in to work.

In your photo, you have the cup of Van Gogh disappEARing and if I'm not mistaken, it has a raised area under the bottom like most coffee mugs. Does this product still heat these mugs effectively?
Yes, but please keep in mind that the heating element is not designed to keep your coffee at the same temperature it was when it was poured.
The bottom of my mug is about 3.50-4", can I still use it with this warmer?
The heating element has a 2.75" diameter. It might not work as well as a smaller mug but it should still work.

The heating element doesn't get so hot that you can bring cold water to a high temperature. It was designed with maintaining a high temperature in mind.

I would suggest getting a new computer, as the USB port only carries 5 volts at about 500mA.

Most of those complaints generally come from people expecting a mini hotplate that will keep their coffee scalding. The USB Drink Warmer simply keeps your drink warmer, longer. Personally, we think this product is great and wouldn't bother selling it if we felt otherwise.

Due to tooth sensitivity I like to keep my coffee at about luke warm, which is body temperature 98.6 F. Is there a way to turn down the heating temperature below the 122 F default minimum?

Mugs with flat bottoms work best, because mugs with concave bottoms don't make full contact with the heating plate.

It can handle small spills and drips, but you should refrain from upending an entire coffee onto the unit.

It's not terribly dangerous, but you would still want to be careful with a drink around your computer regardless of whether or not it was warming your drink.

Can I plug this in to my iPad 2? I haven't gotten it yet, so I don't know.
The iPad 2 does not have a standard USB port, so you would need to purchase a separate adapter. We have not tested this, but it would likely cause a huge drain on the iPad's battery.

The heating element can get to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, so it could cause a burn. You should not touch the heating element.

Can I put a paper cup on the hot plate?
Yes, as long as your paper cup can handle hot coffee, it can handle the USB Drink Warmer.
If I put a drink that is luke warm, or cold, will it warm the drink up? Let's say I took my room temperature water - and wanted to make tea - could I do that?
The USB Drink Warmer slows the natural cooling process of a hot drink. It cannot heat room temperature water up hot enough to brew tea.
Can you put plastic on it? Like a water bottle. And what all things can you put on there that will keep heat?
We do not recommend putting anything other than containers meant to be heated. Plastic tends to weaken/melt when heated up.
Can I plug in four or five of these and use them to keep my plate of food warm while I eat lunch?
It might not be the most even heating surface, but we don't see why not.
