BodyGard Features Five Emergency Tools in One

The BodyGard: It Could Save Your Life
The BodyGard features five emergency tools in one compact device.

Release yourself from a malfunctioning seatbelt

The BodyGard features a safety blade that allows you to quickly slice through a jammed seatbelt.

BodyGard will slice through a jammed or malfunctioning seatbelt.

Seatbelts can easily become stuck in the event of an accident and the last thing you want to be is stuck inside a burning or submerged vehicle.

Your door is smashed shut. Your power windows don't work. Now what?

In an accident, your door may become stuck or smashed shut. Your only escape from a dangerous vehicle is through your window. But, you have power windows and they're not working either. Grab your BodyGard, quickly and easily smash your window, and escape.

The BodyGard will smash any door glass.

The BodyGard separates quickly from your keychain

The BodyGard separates quickly and easily from your keychain for immediate access in the case of an emergency.Frankly, there's no point in having a tool like the BodyGard if you can't use it quickly and easily in the case of an emergency.

The BodyGard is designed to quickly detach from your keychain. Just give it a good yank and it easily slides off.

Sonic Alarm attracts attention and annoys any would-be attacker

The Sonic Alarm attracts attention and scares away would-be attackers.Pressing the red button on your BodyGard activates the sonic alarm.

Trust us, it's pretty darned annoying. At first, we couldn't figure out how to turn it off (that's what you get for not reading the instructions) and it almost drove us crazy.

We ended up wrapping it in a coat (which made it just bearable) until we read the instructions. Hint: Hold the button down for 3 seconds to turn it off.

The point of the sonic alarm is to attract attention to yourself in the case of an emergency or to scare off a would-be attacker.

Use the distress flasher to flag down help

The manufacturer included a flashing red light in the BodyGard. This was a very good idea.

Use the BodyGard's distress flasher to flag down help.

You can use the distress flasher to flag down help if you're stranded on the side of the road.

While we think the flameless flare does a better job for this one particular task, having the red distress flasher in this tool is incredibly handy.

Use the LED flashlight to open doors at night

The BodyGard includes a LED flashlight. It's great to have an emergency tool like the BodyGard that can cut seatbelts and break windows. And we should all carry such a tool.

But, we're human and it's hard to keep a tool on our keychain that we (hopefully) may never use. It's a lot easier to keep that tool on the keychain if it can offer an everyday benefit. The LED flashlight feature provides exactly that great benefit.

The BodyGard comes in an attractive gift box

The BodyGard comes packaged in this attractive gift box.

Important safety information about the BodyGard

  • It takes about 12lb of force to depress the plunger and activate the spring-loaded steel point. So, under normal usage, the steel point will never release. However, just like any other tool, it could hurt you if you used improperly (such as shoving the plunger into your leg).
  • The stainless steel blade will not cut you if used properly (leave your keychain attached to it unless in an emergency). Don't try to stick your tongue into it or something silly like that.
  • The BodyGard release mechanism glows in the dark.

Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff

Q: how does the glass breaker work? do i need to use force?
A: In order to use the glass breaker, you just hold the plunger (the gray part on the end that sticks out) against the window and apply pressure. It takes about 12 pounds of force to work, so it's not difficult to do, but it's also not so easy that you're likely to do it accidentally.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Once the steel plunger is activated, can you use it again right away if the window doesn't brake? Or is it a one time only use?
A: You can activate the "piston" over and over without any limits. After applying it and using it against hard surfaces (such as glass) the tip will begin to dull over time, so the manufacturer recommends replacing it after some usage.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: I do rescue flights and sit behind the pilot and can't access the door to egress in an emergency landing. Will this glass breaker break the glass on the side of a Cessna?
A: The BodyGard was not tested on airplanes, as the BodyGard is intended for use on car windows. An airplane window would probably be made from glass that is much stronger than a tempered glass car window. We suggest contacting the maker of the aircraft to see if the BodyGard would be able to break through its glass.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Please do not lie about this answer. Has the glass breaker been tested under water inside of a car? Does it work exactly the same? Or is there more force needed? We are talking about my family's life.
A: The BodyGard's glass breaker has been tested under water. Since it is spring-loaded, the pressure inside of the car should not change the amount of force needed. After speaking with the manufacturer, we learned that it is a common misconception that the center of the glass would be the easiest spot to break, however the center has more "give" or flexibility, so it is better to hit the edges of the window.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Does it work underwater?
A: Yes, the BodyGard is water-resistant and is designed to withstand submersion. However, prolonged underwater exposure may compromise the battery.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Does the blade ever need to be sharpened?
A: How often does the average person really need to cut through a seatbelt? It's not likely that you'll ever need to re-sharpen the blade on your Bodygard keychain. Of course, it is pretty handy for removing a stray thread here and there, so take that into account. Even still, it's unlikely that you'll need to re-sharpen the blade.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Can this be taken on an airplane? (will it pass security?)
A: The BodyGard complies with TSA guidelines, but it would be up to each airport's discretion.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Does the sonic alarm REALLY attract attention? Or would people think it was a car alarm or something and ignore it?
A: If you rely entirely on the sonic alarm, you'll definitely find that people look in your general direction. It is quite loud and extremely unpleasant sounding. Of course, if you're actually in trouble, you'd be wise to combine the sonic alarm with screaming so there's no confusion.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: If you have to make a water escape is this devise waterproof so the flasher & alarm will work once your out of the car & swimming to land or holding onto a tree. Atlanta resident here!
A: Yes, the BodyGard is water-resistant and is designed to withstand submersion. However, after some time the battery may become compromised.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: You said the manufacturer has informed you the center of the window is not the best place to try to make the break at and to use the edges. Does it matter which edge? Does the glass shatter?
A: It does not matter which edge. For ease of reach, most people go for the closest edge or corner. 95% of the time the glass will break and crack but not completely fall out so it will not shatter in your face. A light touch or the rush of water will make the broken window fall out.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: approx how many ft is the distress fasher visible from
A: The LED Distress Flasher in the BodyGard can be seen from over 700 feet in the dark.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: What amp and voltage is the battery
A: The battery in the BodyGard 5-in-1 is a standard A23 (38mAh) 12V alkaline battery.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Is there any low-battery indicator? If not, how often should one replace battery?
A: No, there is not a low-battery indicator. But you can expect the battery to last up to a year or more with average use. However, the manufacturer advises that you check the battery every few months. Please keep in mind that the battery only powers the flashlight, emergency flasher, and panic alarm. The glass breaker and seat belt cutter will work without a battery.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: How does the spring-loaded glass breaker re-set itself, and does it do so immediately?
A: Yes, the glass breaker resets itself immediately. It is the spring-loaded action that allows it to do this.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Important Note. Glass breaker works only on side/rear windows, not windshield. Side/rear windows composed of glass designed to fragment into small pcs. Laminated windshield remains intact.
A: Correct. The BodyGard's glass breaker is designed to break side or rear windows only. The reinforced windshield (laminate) is designed to withstand much more force for obvious safety reasons.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Is the battery replaceable?
A: Yes. Just use a tiny screwdriver to open the Bodygard's battery compartment and replace it with a new A23 12V alkaline battery.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Is the glass breaker reusable? What if more than one person is trapped in the vehicle?
A: The steel-tipped plunger is on a spring. So, yes, it can be reused countless times and thus free multiple people from a trapped vehicle.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: hope this doesn't sound stupid. Does the glass breaker work from outside a vehicle too? Plus, how does the window break? Does it shatter? Do they break like the picture shows?
A: Yes, the BodyGard will break a window from the outside of a vehicle. The window will break as shown in the picture.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Is the tip of the glass breaker sharp?
A: The Bodygard's window breaker is not sharp when not in use. The moderately sharp steel tip only comes out when sufficient pressure is applied.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Did you guys create this video?
A: No, this is one of those extremely rare instances when we did not create our own video for a product.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Do all of the functions work off of the battery or just the light and alarm.
A: The alarm, flashlight, and distress flasher work off of the battery. The seat belt cutter and glass breaker do not rely on the battery.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: How do you reset the glass breaker? My instructions were missing from my product.
A: The glass breaker is spring loaded and should reset itself after each use.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: does the alarmreally work
A: Yes, the Bodygard's alarm sounds just like it does in the video. It's definitely loud enough to get attention.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Can I damage the glass breaker by using it without pressing it against glass?
A: The glass breaker is made out of steel and shouldn't be damaged by pressing it against materials that aren't glass. However, we recommend only using the glass breaker in the case of an emergency.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: What about the seatbelt cutter? Does it take a strongman to cut through all that nylon?
A: Not at all. The seatbelt cutter on the Bodygard Emergency Tool is actually quite sharp, and the design of the tool is such that you should have no trouble pulling the blade through the threads of a seatbelt in the event of an emergency.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: Does it need batteries
A: Yes. Fortunately, the Bodygard auto emergency tool comes with a tiny battery to operate the alarm and LED light.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: With other emergency alarms, I have had the alarm activated by another item in my pocket or briefcase. Is this a potential problem with this alarm? If so, is there a work-around?
A: Neither Vat19 nor the manufacturer have had complaints about the BodyGard's emergency alarm being activated by accident. There is not a way to disable the alarm, other than taking out the battery. Doing this would also disable the LED flashlight and distress flashlight.
Was this question useful to you? Yes | No

Q: What type of LED light is it?
A: The Bodygard window breaker keychain has a red distress LED on one end and a bright white LED on the other.
