Insta Snow Powder creates fake snow
Insta Snow allows you to make fake snow indoors.

One bag of non-toxic and environmentally safe Insta Snow makes about 2 gallons of fake snow. And yes, you can make a snowman with Insta Snow fake snow.

Easy to make

Insta Snow fake snow powder is super fun and incredibly easy to make. Simply take a scoop (or many scoops for a cool eruption effect) and add a bit of water. Voila! Instant snow!

Start with a scoop of Insta Snow fake snow powder + Just add water to insta-snow fake snow to create fluffy artificial snow. = Look at that gorgeous fluffy fake snow
Add water to the Insta Snow Powder and you'll instantly have fluffy, fake snow.

Expands 100 times its original size!

Just add water and Insta Snow expands to 100 times its original volume. And the coolest part is that this happens incredibly fast. It literally erupts inside whatever container you've placed the powder.  Making artifical snow is easy!

So, let your imagination run wild with all the cool things you can do with Insta Snow powder. Try putting a little in the bottom of a champagne glass (but don't drink it, of course!). Or put some in a friend's water glass and watch their amazement when they fill it up with water.

Check out the video below to see just how much Insta Snow is created by 3.5oz of the fake snow powder.

Please note: The jar in the video below has been replaced by a bag that contains the same amount of powder.

Won't melt and lasts for weeks

We've had some Insta Snow lying around our offices for weeks. And the most remarkable thing is that the instant snow feels cool to the touch even after it's been sitting out for days. It's simply an amazing product that is so much fun to play with!

Insta Snow Fake Snow doesn't melt
There are tons of cool uses for this realistic fake snow.

Can I make a snowman with Insta Snow?

YES! Simply put the Insta Snow into the freezer and it acts even more like real snow. So, go ahead and make your own Frosty...indoors! While the one we made (pictured below) is quite small, you could make enough snow from just one bag to create a snowman that's 18" to 36" tall.

and then create a fake snowman. Sweet.

Can I eat Insta Snow?

Although Insta Snow fake snow is non-toxic and environmentally safe, you shouldn't eat it. We tried putting some of the powder on our tongues to see if fake snow would erupt. It didn't. And we're still alive. However, we still don't recommend trying this at home.

Burning Questions: You Ask and We Answer

Burning Questions: You ask and we answer!
Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff:
What do you do with the Insta Snow once your finished with it. You say it is non toxic...is it biodegradeable?
We contacted the manufacturer and they said that a number of people use Insta Snow on their lawns down in Florida, and that the snow eventually does disappear. They also said that it can be good for the soil, as it helps it retain moisture for a time after it has "disappeared".
This is a pretty stupid question to ask but I'm curious, if someone was to swallow a hand full of Insta Snow would it still expand in their stomachs?
The Insta Snow would expand in your mouth and stomach. Although Insta Snow is non-toxic, it should not be swallowed.
If i am using the snow on stage for can it be swept up during a short interval
Insta Snow can be swept up easily from a smooth surface, such as a typical stage.
what is Insta Snow made of?
Insta Snow is a type of sodium polyacrylate, a super-absorbent polymer.
What does Insta Snow taste like?
We aren't sure because we've never tasted it! Even though Insta Snow Fake Snow Powder is non-toxic, we don't recommend eating it.
Can Insta Snow be packed together to make snowballs?
Yep! Didn't you see the pictures of the snowman we made?
Is this snow safe to use outdoor for decoration purposes? Or will it melt?
Yes, Insta Snow is non-toxic. It won't melt, but you will find that it dries up after some time (although the actual time will depend on the depth of Insta Snow and the temperature and dryness of your area).
what is it made of?
We're not exactly sure what the InstaSnow powder is made of. We do know that it is non-toxic (although we don't suggest eating it). Basically, it's a highly absorbent powder (like the powder found in diapers). It makes great fake snow!
so say i wanted to have a wintery themed dance party in my garage, would it be safe to use this product or do you think people would slip on it?
Although Insta Snow is not as wet as real snow, we still think it could cause a slippery situation on a garage floor if people were dancing.
Can I put instant snow on silk palm? Could you garantee that it will not damege the palm? How can I clean it then?
While we don't think it's likely that you'll damage a silk palm tree with Insta Snow, we recommend spot-testing a small area before spreading it over the entire tree. In general, you can just brush off or wipe away the Insta Snow when you're done.
If I want to prank my friend by covering their front lawn with it, would it be hard to clean up? Should I stick with their driveway instead?
When it rains, you might see some snow form again as the powder expands again. Insta Snow is reusable, but the chemical reaction will break down over time. The manufacturer doesn't recommend using a leaf blower to disperse the snow because some might get inside of the leaf blower, expand due to dampness, and could damage the leaf blower. If you needed to clean it up, you could try a broom. Insta Snow should not harm the grass or plants.
Can you please find some way to tell us what chemical it is made out of? Our class wants to know! We want to try further experiments with this chemical. We will not mass-produce this or anything.
Unfortunately, the composition of Insta Snow is a mystery even to us.
...are you SURE it's not edible?
Yes.
as part of my science fair project i was wondering where i could find information on why oil and gatorade don't have the same effects on the insta-snow powder?
We don't know. Insta-Snow powder should be mixed with water, not oil or Gatorade!
I have a large bay window that I want to decorate for Christmas. The base of the window is wood. Can I put the InstaSnow on the wood or will it harm it?
InstaSnow contains water (that's how the powder fluffs up into "snow") so it could damage wood or other surfaces. If water could damage the surface, then Insta Snow could as well (although it isn't very likely seeing as how InstaSnow absorbs 100 times its weight in water).
Can I use it outside in my yard?
Yep. You can make a large quantity and make snow angels, go sledding, etc.
Is it safe to cover the carpet with... or will it get stuck in there when people walk over it?
Because Insta Snow is a bit moist, it could potentially get your carpet wet as people grind it in by walking over it. We'd recommend using some kind of floor covering under the snow or restricting its use to areas people won't be walking.
Could you use insta snow for snowboarding or skiing?
Yes, you could probably use Insta Snow for snow sports, but it definitely wouldn't be cheap.
Is it biodegradable? I was thinking of throwing this instead of rice/birdseed for a wedding.
Yes, Insta Snow is biodegradable. It won't hurt the ground and it is actually good for soil because it retains moisture and the ground doesn't need to be watered as much.
Does InstaSnow have any sort of scent, good or bad?
No, Insta Snow is pretty much odorless.
Can I put the InstaSnow outside in my front garden areas and leave it there all during the holiday season? Will it withstand the rain and cold and sun, etc? Or is that not a feasible thing?
That would depend on how much sun and rain you get (not to mention wind!). We've heard of people who have had success maintaining Insta Snow through most of the holiday season. They periodically spray it lightly to keep it moist. Eventually, though, your Insta Snow will disappear into the ground (as people walk on it, and as it gets either much too wet or much too dry).
What happens if you put that in water mixed with food coloring?
You'll get colored snow!
Is it cold like real snow?
In its natural state, Insta Snow is slightly cool to the touch. Using chilled water to prepare it or placing it in the refrigerator could get it colder, but it will not hold that cold temperature for long amounts of time.
How heavy is Insta-Snow? Is it more like a light snow, or more like heavy wet snow?
The Insta-Snow fake snow powder is more of a medium-to-heavy snow than a light snow.
does the bag have more product then the jar??
Yes. The bag of InstaSnow will make about 8 gallons of "snow", while the jar will make just 2 gallons.
what if i spread it out thinnly on a cookie pan and put it in a oven would it dry out more quickly??
The manufacturer does not recommend putting the Insta Snow in the oven. Although it takes a while, the Insta Snow should air dry.
What happens when you put instant snow in the microwave? Please do not doge the question thx
We honestly do not know what would happen if you put Insta Snow in the microwave. We have not tried this and we don't plan to. The manufacturer has not tried it either.
You stated water can be added AS it dries to keep it moist & 'reuse' it, but what if it completely dries up (returns to the original state)? Can it be used several times?
Insta Snow can be used over and over.
what happens when you microwave insta-snow?
We don't know because we haven't tried it and we won't try it. Do not microwave your Insta Snow.
What would happen if one were to put Insta Snow in the microwave? Have you tried it?
No, we have not put Insta Snow in the microwave and we don't plan to. We don't want hot "snow"! Vat19 and the manufacturer do not recommend microwaving your Insta Snow.
what if my dogs or cats eat it?
Insta Snow is non-toxic, so if your pets accidentally eat a little, they should be OK. And don't worry if they drink a little water, fake snow won't start pouring out of their ears. Of course, don't let them eat any watermelon seeds because that's a completely different story.
here is my question if a pet were to eat it what should i do hypothetically of course?
Its' non-toxic, but you may want to be safe and contact the vet.
Can you make snowballs with Insta Snow?
Sort of. Insta Snow does not compact like regular snow, so it isn't easy to make snowballs, but it can be done. Putting the Insta Snow in the freezer helps.
I'm living in Singapore and it's sunny country. Will it melt if I were to use this? I'm thinking to use this fake snow as my wedding decorations.
The Insta Snow should not "melt" but heat and sun could cause it to dry out faster.
Is it Hypoallergenic?
We have not heard of any allergies being triggered by Insta Snow.
Insta Snow powder may be the answer I have been looking for. I now live in Florida, and sure miss having a white Chritmas. I want to cover my lawn completely. Will this work?
Depending on the size of your lawn, it could take several bags of Insta Snow to do the job; but it would definitely work.
I bought this product and put it in the backyard, it has rained and is now a gooey slush, how do I get rid of it?
You'll just have to scoop it up somehow. Ironically, a snow shovel might work.
Is the snow sticky?
It can be compacted, but I definitely wouldn't call it "sticky".
Can I create shapes (like a snow ball) with the Insta Snow?
Yep! We even made a little snowman which you can see on the page.
will it turn into powder again and reuse it when it melts or will it turn into water?????????????
Yes, Insta Snow will eventually dry out (it doesn't melt like real snow). It will turn into powder, not water. Insta Snow can be reused.
I make window displays for work, would this be good to put in there for a window display, even if there's almost no ventilation? It's inside a little cubby like window.
The Insta Snow would be OK without ventilation. Depending on the humidity, you can watch it from time to time and, if you notice any drying, can occasionally spray or mist water on the snow to keep it "plump." But without ventilation the snow probably won't dry up very much. Ventilation would speed up evaporation.
How many scoops in a 1 lb bag? How much water per scoop? I need to have enough for 30 kids? What is your shipping lead time?
We do not know exactly how many little scoops are in the 1-pound bag, nor does the manufacturer. There would definitely be enough for 30 kids to get a few scoops each. One scoop will need 1/4 cup of water. Depending on when you place your order, it will ship either the same business day or the next business day.
Can this go down the drain?
We don't recommend it. InstaSnow can very easily clog a drain.
What would happen if a kid eats it?
Although Insta Snow fake snow is non-toxic and environmentally safe, you shouldn't eat it. We suggest keeping Insta Snow away from any children who might eat it.
Man alot of people are asking if it is cold, here's a new question, if I leave it in the freezer for a few hours, will it get cold and stay like that for a while, ive always wondered this, but I haven't tried this yet
Putting Insta Snow in the freezer will make it "thicken" which will make it easier to compact like regular snow.
u say it is more like snow, and you can build snowman if you put it in the fridge first, but do you mean before or after adding the water? and if you put too much water in it becomes a sort of gel consistency, can this be used as hair gel?
We put the snow in the fridge after adding the water. We haven't tried it but we think Insta Snow would fail as a hair gel substitute.
is insta snow cold and can hot water be used
Insta Snow feels cool to the touch. You can use warm water but we do not recommend using really hot water.
Is IntaSnow slippery like real snow? I am considering covering a small backyard lawn area and making small hill for little children to sled on, would this work?
Insta Snow isn't as slippery as real snow or ice, but it can be used for sledding.
Can you microwave it to quicken the process of turning back to powder?
No. Do not put your Insta Snow in the microwave for any reason.
In the past, our Insta Snow has taken an extremely long time to dry. (As in, too long). Can the process be made faster by using, say, an oven?
While we've never done it, anything that speeds up the drying process should work to return your fake snow to powder form.
does it ever dry out and return to its org. powder?
Yes. Eventually, the Insta Snow will dry out and return to a powder form. Depending on the depth of the snow and the humidity of the room, this could take anywhere from a week to over a month.
When the snow dehydrates can you add more water to make it back to the snow? :)
Yep! Insta Snow can be used and reused indefinitely.
Will it smell?
No, Insta Snow is odorless.
Can you have a snowball fight with this?
Eh, not really. Insta Snow doesn't compact like regular snow, so it's difficult to make throw-able snowballs. You could try putting the Insta Snow in the freezer to "thicken" it.
If I pour in room temperature water, will my snow be room temperature, or be cold?
It'll feel a little cool, but it will not be cold like real snow.
is it cold
It's slightly cool, but not as cold as real snow.
Hello! I'm a Floridian, so I've never seen snow. How does this compare to the real thing? I'd love to buy a whole bunch and throw a snow party for the other snow virgins :D
Next to real snow, we think it's the next best thing! Insta Snow feels cool, damp, and fluffy but it isn't icy and cold enough to sting your hands. Yay! However, it doesn't freeze and won't pack like real snow.
my mom bought a huge load of this like she bought a bag and two buckets from the mall! just saying, its pretty cool!
The mall!? Aren't those obsolete yet? You should buy your Insta Snow from Vat19 next time!
is there a way to dry insta snow faster?
According to the manufacturer, you can't speed up the drying process by blowing air or heat on the Insta Snow. What affects the drying rate is the humidity in the air. The less humidity, the quicker Insta Snow will dry.
Where can i buy the insta snow besides on the internet???
We do not know of a specific brick and mortar store that sells Insta Snow Powder.
what did you mix to make the 3D snowman? we tried PVA but it doesnt harden, still tacky and a bit squiggly
We didn't add anything, it's just Insta Snow and water. While the snow can be molded, it will still remain "flaky". You could try putting the Insta Snow in the freezer to thicken it.
is it soft and squishy? can you use soda like sprite? will it be bubbly? YOU GUYS ARE SO COOL BY THE WAY!
It feels just like real snow, so it's definitely soft and flaky. I suppose you could use soda, though it wouldn't make it bubbly.
How long does it take Insta Snow to return to its original size?
How long Insta Snow lasts will depend on the environment it is in. Sun, heat, and wind will cause it to dry out faster.
Is their a way where i can color the Insta-Snow like green purple or blue
Yes, you can add food coloring to water and then add the colored water to the Insta Snow.
Instead of pouring the water into the Insta-Snow Powder, could you pour the Insta-Snow Powder into the water? Would it take longer for the reaction to happen?
It would still work, but the manufacturer recommends adding the water to the powder as directed. Adding the the powder to the water could cause a gel-like consistency before it puffs up like snow and could take a little longer.
Does it turn cold in anyway at first? or do you have to put it in the freezer?
Insta Snow does feel cool to the touch when you first make it. However, it won't be icy cold like real snow. You could put it in the freezer to make it feel even colder.
can you save it if you want to use it later?
If you want to save your Insta Snow to use later, make sure you allow it to dry completely and return to powder form.
Can I buy this in Hong Kong? because I need it a lot and must be hurry!
We don't know of any stores in Hong Kong that sell Insta Snow Powder. However, we ship worldwide.
whats the powder called
Insta Snow Powder?
If I want to put it in a clear vase with water, would it still look like snow?
If you add too much water to the instant snow powder, it won't mix correctly and have the intended fluffiness. You could fill a vase with Insta Snow for short-term decorative purposes.
How cold is this insta snow? would it be as cold as real snow? if it's not, can i use chilled water for the effect? and would it keeps cold?
Insta Snow feels cool to the touch, but certainly not icy like real snow. Icy water might make it colder initially, but it will rapidly return to the slightly cool temperature it would otherwise have. To cool it off for a short period of time, you could also try putting your Insta Snow in the freezer.
if i was in a room with 0% humidity, how long will insta snow last? is it possible for it to last a year
No. A layer of an inch or two thick will typically last a couple of weeks. You can refresh your Insta Snow by lightly spraying it with water.
If I put InstaSnow in a flower vase, will it harm the flowers? Will it keep the flowers hydrated for a few hours?
While we've never tried it, Insta Snow is not too different from some of the super-absorbent commercial gels and crystals that many people use for their plants. It would probably work. If you decide to experiment with it, please let us know how it turns out!
This is a really stupid question but can I buy enough insta snow to fill my neighborhood up with snow?
More than we can reasonably carry, that's for sure. You'd probably need a few hundred tons depending on the size of your neighborhood.
if you use club soda/carbonated water, is the amount of snow larger? If so, why? What is the science behind it?
No, it would not be larger. Carbonated water wouldn't magically create more snow than what you've already added.
It Insta snow flammable?
No, Insta Snow is not flammable.
I've lost my directions!! It's one scoop of mix to how much water???
Mixing 1 teaspoon of Insta-Snow powder with 2 ounces of room temperature water produces the best quality snow. The manufacturer recommended making your snow in smaller quantities to get the best batches.
is insta snow moldebal because it looks like powder in the video.
It is powder! That's how we were able to make the little snowman.
Would you ship to my country
If your country happens to be on the List of Countries To Which We Offer Shipping, then yes!
Could this be used to decorate Christmas village houses that will be displayed year after year? Or does it dry up and become dis colored after a few weeks?
You could! The snow will eventually dry up over the course of several days, but you can always rehydrate it. InstaSnow can be reused over and over as long as it's not damaged in some way.
How do you turn insta snow back to powder?
Just give it time. You might be able to speed up the process by setting the InstaSnow on a paper towel, that way some of moisture can be absorbed from the flakes.
Live in vancouver wa. Rains a lot want to use in yard. What happens with continual water added
The snow will probably get a little goopy. Over-saturation can make the snow more like a slush.
is the fake snow cold?
It's not freezing cold like real snow but it is cool to the touch.
So someone asked this question but it didn't help much, if you used hot water.. Will the snow be like hot or at least warm?
Yes, using cold/warm water will make the Insta Snow feel cool/warm. Eventually the temperature will stabilize to whatever the room temperature may be.
Can the insta-snow be reused?
Yes, Insta Snow can be reused.
When the fake snow is done, is it cold?
Insta Snow is cool to the touch, but it is not nearly as cold as real snow.
Does the instant snow disappear at some point by itself? Can I put it outside (since I can't vacuum the grass).
Insta Snow Powder will not disappear or melt. Eventually, the "snow" will dehydrate back into its original form.
What will happen if my dog eats it? Would it take me long to clean up if IO put it on a fan on Christmas and turned the fan on (so it went everywhere)?
Insta Snow is non-toxic, but if you find that your dog has eaten some we would suggest that you contact a vet right away.
can i put it under sunlight to dry it up?? How can i dry it up and back to it's original powder??
Yes, sunlight will help it dry quicker. Insta Snow will eventually dry up on its own if you do not rehydrate it.
could i reuse the snow by drying up the snow?
Yes, dried up Insta Snow Powder can be reused.
If you let it air dry will it turn back to powder and is ready to be use again?
Yes, Insta Snow will return to powder if you let it dry out completely. It can be reused.
can I use it in a store window display
Of course!
is the bag enough for my 40 kids to use?
The Insta-Snow Bag makes about 8 gallons of fake snow. That's a little over one cubic foot of fake snow. That would cover about 12 square feet in 1 inch of fake snow. That's a lot.
What would happen if I left it outside?
Assuming it's dry outside, the InstaSnow would gradually return to its original form as the water evaporates. It will, however, turn back into "snow" every time it rains or gets wet.

Simply put, you should probably clean it up as best you can if used outside.
My son put a ton of water in it so I can't dry it out. How do I dispose of this bowl of murky water?! Thank you.
Anywhere but the drain. Apart from that there are no special disposal methods.
Can you put instant snow in a fridge and how long?
You can but there's absolutely no need to. The only thing you need is a little bit of water!
Is this product flammable? and if it is what is its melting temperature?
No, it is not flammable.
Is instasnow safe for hardwood floors?
Yes, InstaSnow is safe for hardwood floors. Keep in mind that InstaSnow is moist, however, so you might see waterspots if you allow it to sit for too long.
if i use it outside what is the best way to get rid of it - I dont want to reuse it just get rid
I would recommend a large vacuum or possibly a leaf blower.
If i put 2 liters of water on just 1 spoon of insta snow powder, what will happen?
A watery mess.
Is the fake snow flammable? Would I be able to put it on the front/sides of a candle?
No, Insta Snow is not flammable and is perfectly safe to have around candles.
Could we have a snowball fight witht them? :D
You sure can! Insta Snow can be packed just like regular snow.
Can I eat the Insta Snow?
Although Insta Snow fake snow is non-toxic and environmentally safe, you shouldn't eat it.
can u mold it?
To a certain extent, yes! We even made a little snowman which you can see on our product page.
Onec you have this all over your yard, how do you get rid of it. I can't imagine a vacuum working on that, and if you just let it dry out, will it keep reforming inthe dew each morning??
We wouldn't recommend covering your entire yard in Insta Snow for that very reason. I suppose you could use a leaf blower/vacuum to clean it up.
Is Insta-Snow cold?
Insta Snow is a little cool to the touch. Not freezing, but definitely cool.
Is there any way to reuse it?
Yes, dried up Insta Snow Powder can be reused.
I'm thinking of buying something to use in my backyard to ski on during the summer when there is obviously no snow. Would this work?
You would need a crazy amount of Insta Snow to do that! We haven't done that, so we can't say how well it would work.
Do you know if customs are OK with white powder in a bag?
Haha, we don't see why not - it's just fake snow!
Can I use this fake snow for setting up a small snowboard area to do tricks to train before it snows?
You would need a lot of Insta Snow for that! Please note that Insta Snow is not icy and does not compact like real snow.
what happens when you mix the powder with "soda"
When you mix soda (tested with regular Pepsi) with the Insta Snow powder, it does create fluffy, cool-to-the-touch snow. The snow will be brown like the Pepsi though!
is it wet? or cold??
Insta Snow Powder needs water to turn into "snow", so it is wet/damp. It won't be freezing cold like real snow.
how big is the jar
The jar contains 3.5 ounces of Insta Snow powder, which will expand into two gallons of fake snow once water is added.
I accidently added too much water to my Insta Snow! Would it still dry up and can I reuse it?
You can sprinkle some additional Insta Snow powder on it and that should help. Or you can simply let it dry out and it should go back to its original form of powder. This might take a week or so if you really over watered it.
How much would it take to fill up a bath tub?
You really, really, really don't want to do that. The InstaSnow would find its way into your pipes (or worse, septic system) and cause severe plumbing issues.
where do you guys ship from?
All orders are shipped from our warehouse in St. Louis, MO.
what is the powder to water ratio? i was wondering cause u said it must be properly hydrated so how much water do i need to properly hydrate it?
That will depend on how much you want to make. Fortunately, the tub comes with all the instructions you need for making different sized batches.
Will it turn a different color if you use colored water?
The flakes are absorbing the water, so if the water is colored then it will also color the flakes. Keep in mind that this would stain the InstaSnow flakes permanently.
It went down the sink drain, what do I do???
We would suggest calling a plumber. This is actually a pretty good example of why you shouldn't flush expanding material down the drain.
was this your first product?
No but it is one of our earliest. Our first non-DVD product was the Fireplace Scented Candle.
It made of plastic but you say it is non toxic.
It is non-toxic so long as your aren't setting it on fire and inhaling the fumes.
Would this be a good option for "snow" in my Christmas City (houses, people, etc.) if it only lasts a couple of weeks and will it "blow" around.
Sure! A fan would definitely blow it around.
Can you add colored maker ink to make it colorful and more awesome?
Not without potentially staining everything that the Insta Snow comes into contact with.
will TSA question all you stuff for airline international flight?
Only if you're trying to bring it onto the plane in your carry-on.
To be in a bathtub, how many bags and jars of Insta Snow do I need?
At least one to be in a bathtub. How many it will take to FILL said bathtub however is beyond me. You should order a few bags and find out -- we'll even post your findings!
Is it cold?
Insta Snow isn't as cold as snow but it is cool to the touch.
Do they stick together? If so is it like actual snow, or like playdoh? And do they shrink? Or what happens in a few weeks?
It's just like regular snow. It can be clumped together, but they will remain flaky. After a few weeks the flakes will dry out completely and return to their original state.
Does it expire? I mean if you leave it unused for like 5 years could you still use it?
Insta Snow doesn't have an expiration date, and we haven't heard of any ever going bad.
I bought 5 lbs of Instant Snow from another company. We used it on a display outside on our cars and the snow actually "melted" and congealed into a gel-like substance without adding water and despite it being mixed correctly. Outdoors ok for this?
Don't forget that the outdoors is a very damp place, even if it's just in the form of dew. You can use Insta Snow outside, but you might want to make sure the snow is fully grown first. Insta Snow is non-toxic and will not harm the environment.
You say that the snow will return to its original size, does that mean it will turn back to powder? How long does it take to go back to its original size? Will insta snow stick or be messy if i were to lay in the insta snow?
It may stick a bit if you lay in it, but that's to be expected from nearly any powdery substance. It can take a week or two for Insta Snow to return to its original form.
Is Insta Snow flammable???
No, Insta Snow is not flammable.
I just want to ask you what will happen if we walk on insta snow, does it get damaged?
Walking on Insta Snow shouldn't damage it, but it could make the snow dirty.
Could I fill an entire bathtub up with insta snow, get in, then tun the water on for an awesome snow bath? And, is insta snow... cold?
You could make Insta Snow in a large amount like that. It might clog the drain though! Insta Snow does feel cool to the touch, but it isn't freezing cold or icy like real snow.
can the snow be dried and reused?
Yes, you can reuse Insta Snow Powder.
Is it cold?
It's not as cold as real snow, but it is slightly cool to the touch. Using super cold water may help.
where it is available?
Right here at Vat19.com!
Is there a faster way to dry it out? Microwave?
There isn't a way to speed up the drying process. You'll have to be patient and let it air dry. We have never put Insta Snow in the microwave and don't recommend trying it!
the question about what its made of:its made of polyurethene (a.k.a the stuff in diapers that actually absorbs the wetness).cool ryt?
Insta Snow isn't exactly the same as what is inside of a baby diaper, but it is similar. If you've ever changed a wet diaper, you'd know that it doesn't at all resemble snow.
Where can i buy this?
We not sure of any specific brick-and-mortar stores that carry Insta Snow. But you can purchase it here at Vat19.com!
How long is Insta Snow good for in the bag sealed? Is their an experation date?
It should be good indefinitely. There is no expiration date on the Insta Snow packaging, and we've never heard of it going bad.
I used Insta Snow with my son and immediately had a burning sensation in my throat after mixing insta snow. Is there a chemical irritant in this product? Has anyone else experienced this?
The chemical itself has been determined to be non-hazardous by 29 CFR 1910.1200 (OSHA Hazard Communication Standard). We have experienced the issue you described, though. If you take a deep breath and accidentally inhale some of the instant snow powder (which is easy to do when you're pouring it and it puffs up in a small cloud the way that flour and sugar often do), you will find that it can dry out your eyes, nose, or throat. That's because the Insta Snow is absorbing the moisture to try to expand. It may burn for a little while, but adding water helps.
Can you fill a pool with InstaSnow?
You'd need a lot more than one bag to fill a pool.
Would soy sauce work?
Any liquid will work but we really don't recommend it. Soy sauce will ruin your Insta Snow, turning it into a sticky brown mess.
What will happen if you put it in the microwave for 15 minutes on high?
You could ruin your Insta Snow and possibly damage your microwave. If you want to dry it out more quickly we suggest spreading it thinly over a paper towel and leave it in direct sunlight.
Is the snow cold?
Insta Snow is cool to the touch but it is not freezing cold like real snow.
What age do you recommend this?
Old enough to know not to eat it. With parental supervision there really isn't a minimum age requirement.
I recently moved from Minnesota to California. Can this be used outside in my yard?
You would need a LOT of it. Keep in mind also that it requires water (something California is currently short on) and is not biodegradable. Insta Snow is not meant to be a replacement for real snow.
Does the Insta Snow Powder melt?
Nope. It simply turns back into powder once it dries out.
Is it safe for pets?
InstaSnow is non-toxic, however we strongly suggest not letting your pets eat it.
Is insta snow non-toxic?
Insta Snow is completely non-toxic. Keep in mind that if something is toxic to ingest, it's most likely toxic to handle with your bare hands.
Is insta snow real?
It's real in the sense that it's tangible and you can actually interact with it, but it's not real snow if that is what you're asking.
If I made some Insta-Snow and put it in the freezer, would it get all cold and feel like real snow but it never melts?
Imagine Insta-Snow as a pile of teeny-tiny sponges. As they absorb water, the cells inside the sponges expand. This is what causes Insta-Snow to appear to magically "grow" into flakes of snow.

Now as we all know, a damp sponge is not only wet on the inside; it's also wet on the outside. If you had a pile of damp sponges and you were to suddenly freeze that pile, the water on the outside of the sponges would freeze and cause the sponges to stick together. This would turn your pile of loose, damp sponges into a single block of frozen sponges.
If you were to freeze Insta-Snow, the same thing would happen. You would just have a solid piece of many tiny sponges that are now frozen together. It'd be more akin to a slab of ice than fluffy snow.
If I put it on the carpet, would it damage it?
No but it would make cleanup a little tricky. Still, it's nothing that a broom or vacuum cleaner couldn't handle.
Are there tinier jars like tubes? Also I'm a big fan!
Thanks! Unfortunately we do not carry any smaller containers of Insta-Snow, but we have always subscribed to the "more is better" philosophy of packaging products.
What happens if I burn it?
It's difficult to set things that are saturated with water on fire. With that being said, you shouldn't set anything on fire that isn't meant to be, especially when it's made from what is essentially plastic.
What is the chemical used?
It's a hydromorphic polymer which is, essentially, plastic. It's the same material used in toys and diapers.
I live in a humid place, how can I dehydrate it??
We've found that the best way to accelerate the dehydration process is to spread the wet InstaSnow as thinly as possible between two paper towels.
Can this be used in place of water for fresh cut flowers in a vase? I thought it would make a nice winter themed arrangement.
Maybe for a little while. Spitballs would actually make a better potting medium.
What happens if i put too much water into the insta snow?
You'll end up with a slushy mess. If you need to make a quantity which doesn't appear on the instructions, we recommend adding water little by little until you reach the perfect amount.
I love this product but... Can we put this on the christmas tree? ( a product for christmas)
You sure can! Insta Snow is great for all sorts of indoor holiday decorations or, if you're like me, recreating the Battle of Hoth with your Star Wars action figures.
Can I reuse it?
Yes, Insta Snow can be reused. There is no definite limit to the number of times it can be reused.
Would I be able to make snowmen and snow angels and snow forts with this?
Maybe very tiny snow angels, men, and forts.
I'm filming a snow scene on the ocean and wanted to know if you guys have any idea what this stuff'll do to fish and the aquatic environment... don't want to go slushin' our oceans!
I'm not sure, but what I can tell you is that adding too much water (such as dumping it in the ocean) will turn the InstaSnow into a gooey paste-like substance. We wouldn't recommend it.
Does the insta snow give out a bad smell after many uses?
Not that we've heard of! InstaSnow is completely odorless.
What should I do if gets stuck in pipes?
Probably use some sort of drain cleaner or snaking tool.
If you keep reusing it (like dry out, then put water..) can you use it forever? Or will it eventually not work?
There isn't any reason why it wouldn't. Just make sure you dehydrate it completely.
If used in window display how long will it last?
There isn't an exact time, but in our experience Insta Snow lasts for one to two weeks.
What is the powder made of?
It is made of a low-cross-linked sodium polyacrylate.
I used insta snow and kept it in a test tube for a while ( 5 hours) then i was ready to dry it out, when I did i put it on a paper plate and set it out in the sun. After an hour it all turned to a liquid substance any idea what I should do?
It sounds like the Insta Snow may have become oversaturated with water. Try using a little less water next time.
Can I use your fire extinguisher Vacuum to clean this up?
A full-size vaccuum cleaner might be a bit more effective.
This is made out of the same stuff that the inside of diapies are, right? I remember reading that on the website of the person who invented it.
Insta Snow isn't exactly the same as what is inside of a baby diaper, but it is similar. If you've ever changed a wet diaper, you'd know that it doesn't at all resemble snow.
What was the first video on vat19? Because this looks kind of old. And, your products are AWESOME.
Our first videos were for our selection of DVDs, though the Insta Snow video is among some of our earliest non-DVD videos.
Is it safe enough to keep around the house, because i have alot of pets?
Insta Snow is non-toxic, but we do not recommend leaving it out if your pets are inclined to eat things other than their food.
Will the water ever evaporate out of the snow?
Given enough time, the water will eventually evaporate and cause the snow to return to its original, powdery form.
If the already-grown snow is left in a bathroom, how long will it take to return to its original size?
There isn't an exact time, but in our experience Insta Snow lasts for several weeks.
Can you reuse the Insta Snow after it shrinks?
Yes, Insta Snow can be regrown again and again.
Can you add food coloring to the snow?
You can, but I can't guarantee it will completely color all of your snow. You might have better luck coloring the water first, then adding the snow.
Does it dry up? Can I reuse it when I made snow already?
Yes, Insta Snow will eventually dry up. Once it dries out, Insta Snow can be reused.
can i make a snowball out of InstaSnow?
You can, but it is difficult because Insta Snow does not "pack" as easily as regular snow.
Can you snowboard on it? How long does it last?
You could but you would need a lot of it! How long Insta Snow lasts will depend on the environment it is in. Sun, heat, and wind will cause it to dry out faster.
what does the insta snow feel like??
Insta Snow feels very light and airy and is cool to the touch.
Is insta snow cold?
It isn't freezing cold like real snow but it does feel cool to the touch.
I need the insta snow to dry out more quickly. is there any way to dry it other than air dry?
No, it is best to let it air dry.
Will it dry up into its original form? I really want it, but want to know can you reuse it.
Yes, Insta Snow will dry up and can be reused.
Wanting to toss at wedding instead of rice. How long does it take to biodegrade? Will it look like it snowed or jellied for years to come??
There isn't an exact amount of time that it will take the Insta Snow to biodegrade. After it dries up, some patches of "snow" will reappear as it rains. We don't recommend throwing snow at a wedding because it is damp and will stick to hair and clothing. Depending on the ground's surface, it could also make it slick.
Can it be used to create a "real" snowfall blown by large fans on a stage?
Sure, it'd be great for that effect!
My daughter wants 2 use this product as a science fair project. She's in 1st grade. She needs 2 know what causes the reaction so she can explain it 2 the science fair judges. Could u explain?
As far as we know, Insta-Snow powder simply acts as microscopic "sponges" that soak up the water and puff up. We have no knowledge of chemical reactions that may occur in this process as it is a trade secret of the manufacturer.
I want to buy the bag and stock up for my wedding in Dec 2009. Will the product last until then if I started to buy the bags in July 2008?
Yes. As far as we know, there are no limitations on Insta Snow's shelf life. A year or two shouldn't pose any problems.
What happens if you pour the wrong amount of fake snow powder?
If you have too little Insta Snow powder, it will be slushy and overly moist. If you have too much, it won't be able to absorb enough water to expand fully.
I am in Australia and would like to use Insta Snow powder on the 30th of November (8 working days) - is there any way we can get it over here in time? If not, do you have an Australian distributor?
If you choose UPS Worldwide Expedited as your shipping method during checkout, you shouldn't have a problem getting the Insta Snow in time.
I wanna give my cousin a white Christmas. If I make the snow, and the put in a present box overnight, will it be ruined?
This does not dry out for several days, so that should be fine! It does not turn back into a powder until all the water evaporates.
Is it reusable after it dries up? If so, how many times?
Yes it is! There isn't a set amount of times as it will depend on how the snow is handled after it is grown.
Can this be used in centerpiece clear vases instead of water?
If your party has a winter theme, sure!
Is it kosher?
It's not food, and the material is entirely synthetic, so our immediate guess is "yes."
Why is this item still available?
Because it's still awesome!
Why doesn't the insta snow react when you put oil in it?
We're not sure why. Maybe it's because oil is thicker than water and that the individual molecules are too large to be captured by the material.
Is the fake snow cold? If yes how cold?
Not really. It's cool to the touch because it's moist but it's not cold like actual snow.
Can this be mixed by the bag full?
Sure! Just make sure that you use the correct amount of water.
Can you use this to cover your yard in snow? I live in texas so thought this might work to cover the front yard for christmas
We wouldn't recommend it. InstaSnow doesn't just go away on its own -- you would have to eventually clean it up. It would probably be cheaper and not as environmentally reckless to just rent a snow machine.
For a local dance production of the Nutcracker, could I make this and "shoot" it out of an air cannon, to make it look like falling snow on stage?
Sure. We can't think of any reason why that wouldn't work. With that being said though it might be a little more practical (and cost effective) to use stage snow or potato flakes if you want to create special effects for an entire show.
Are you EVER going/planning to make a new video about this?
Maybe someday but for now there are no plans to make a new video. We have a bit of a sentimental attachment to some of those older videos.
Who is narrating the video? Cause it definitely isn't Jamie.
You're right. It definitely isn't Jamie. Back in the day we used to hire actual voice over actors.
I saw another video where someone used the power from diapers (I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff) in their plants to help them grow. Can I use insta-snow in the same way?
It's similar but it's not the same. To answer your question however, yes, you might be able to grow plants in them. You would need to add plant food though as the medium would have no nutrients for the plants to consume.
My grandson put it down bathroom sink and now it's blocked. How do I unblock it
Call a plumber and have them snake it out.
What happens if you use soda instead of water?
You'll create a horrible, sticky mess.
If i were to put a small amount would it still indicate it on the jar? or would i need to calculate it?
You would need to calculate it, but it's really not that difficult to figure out.
I added too much water. What can i do?
Drain as much of the water as possible and lay it out on paper towels to absorb some of the excess water.
Is this allowed to go through the airport?
Presumably, however we cannot say for sure. You might want to contact the TSA for more information.
Does it have harsh chemicals?
Absolutely not. As we mention in the description, Insta Snow is non-toxic, which is good because you'll be using your bare hands to play with it.
If any of the instal-snow ends up in the pool after it has already been used for a few days, will it damage the pool or components?
It depends on the amount. A few flakes probably won't cause any issues, but enough might eventually clog the pool filter or jets. We would recommend doing everything in your power to prevent InstaSnow from ending up in your pool.
Can I have a fake snowball fight?
Sure! You can even build a fake snowman or, with enough InstaSnow, build a fake snow fort and go fake snow sledding!
Can you store the snow and reuse it?
Simply wait for it to dehydrate and then put it back in its container.
Is it reusable? Because it looks interesting but I'm not sure if that's that
Yes, Insta Snow can be used again and again!
What happens if it is left in water over a long period of time?
Insta Snow will turn into a slushy mess (think mashed potatoes) if you use too much water.
Does it ever dry out (or disappear somehow) at some point?
Insta Snow will eventually dry out and return to its original form but it will not evaporate.
What does it feel like to touch?
Insta Snow is light, fluffy, and cool to the touch. It's not cold like regular snow but in terms of texture it is very similar.
Is insta snow available in Kuwait?
Yes, we ship internationally.
what does insta snow feel like?Is it cold and feel just like snow? or is it room temperature and just feels like snow or powder?
Insta Snow is light, fluffy, and cool to the touch. It is not cold like regular snow.
If insta-snow is consumed by a toddler does it have any negative effects?
Insta Snow is not toxic, however it's not safe to eat either. You shouldn't sprinkle Insta Snow or any other inedible decorations where toddlers or infants might be able to get to them.
How many square feet does a 1 lb bag (8 gallons) cover?
Unfortunately I don't have the means to test and answer this. A precise answer is difficult to give because it will largely depend on how much snow cover you want and how deep you want it to be.
How long will it last outside in Florida?
That depends on the temperature. Hot weather will cause the flakes to dehydrate more quickly, but it may still take a while. Keep in mind that Insta Snow isn't necessarily cold.
Why does the bag cost more than the jar?
As we mention on the page above, the jar contains 3.5 ounces and the bag contains 1lb. The bag contains nearly 3x as much InstaSnow.
Will the 'snow' melt?
Nope! Just mix a scoop of Insta Snow powder with water to make an eruption of fluffy snow that will not melt and lasts for weeks.
I'm trying to use this on my face for Cosplay. Is it safe to use on face?
It's safe, however I can't think of any way to make Insta Snow stick to your face reliably. The moisture would be a problem for any temporary adhesives.
Is it true you can find it in a diaper?
Insta Snow isn't exactly the same as what is inside of a baby diaper, but it is similar. If you've ever changed a wet diaper, you'd know that it doesn't at all resemble snow.
One time I had some Insta-Snow & it was in a country crock bin & after a few weeks it was still there. Does this usally happen?
Sure. If there's no way for the moisture to evaporate it will stay fluffy. A large quantity in a bin will take a very long time to evaporate on its own.
Is it cold like snow?
Insta Snow is cool to the touch but not nearly as cold as snow. In fact, it's the same temperature as the water you use to make it.
Is insta snow reusable?
Yes, when the Insta Snow dries out, it returns to its original form until you add water and start the fun all over.
What will happen if you eat it?
You might suffer intestinal blockage or impaction. You do NOT want to know how that is usually resolved.
What would happen if I put a bag of it into my sink and turned it on?
One of two things, actually. If you use just enough water, you'll create a sinkful of artificial snow. Use too much water and you'll create a weird slurry.
Will you please make a video of how much an entire bag of snow makes? I would like to see it before purchasing!
The bag of Insta Snow will create 8 gallons of fake snow. Trust me, it's impressive!
Can you put it in the oven to dry it out quicker? If so, what temp and how long would you recommend???
It's possible but I can't say that I recommend it. You could just let them dry out naturally.
is it cold?
Insta Snow isn't as cold as snow but it is cool to the touch.
Can the insta snow be used outside in the rain?
Not very well. Eventually the Insta Snow will turn into a mushy white mess.
If I wanted to buy a 50 gallon drum of this, where can I purchase it from.
Sorry, but we cannot supply Insta Snow by the drum full.
Will it stay like that forever?
There isn't an exact time limit, but in our experience Insta Snow lasts for several weeks.
Is it cold? :D
Insta Snow isn't as cold as snow but it is cool to the touch.
Can I make this at home?
You can use Insta Snow at home, but I'm not aware of any way to make your own Insta Snow.
so if i add icy water to insta-snow, its will come out rather cold, but if adding hot water, it would come out warm?
Yes, using cold/warm water will make the Insta Snow feel cool/warm.
is this snow cold?
Insta Snow feels cool to the touch but it is not icy cold like real snow.
If I was to put a bunch of Insta-Snow in my backyard, but then it were to rain, would the gel-snow still decompose?
The chemical reaction will break down over time. Initially, however, you could see some snow fluff up.
I am making a sculpture out of clay firing it so it becomes hard. If I put Insta Snow on it will the sculpture be damaged? How would I get it to stay on? Glue? What do recommend if it doesn't work?
The manufacturer is not sure how this would turn out. They recommend experimenting with glue.
if it falls onto a candle will it burn or set a light?
The manufacturer does not believe that Insta Snow would catch on fire because it is basically water once it has been fluffed up. They recommend keeping flames away from the Insta Snow as you should keep a flame away from nearly all things!
what happens when you put it in the refridgerator or freezer?
If you put Insta Snow in the refrigerator or freezer it will just get cold. Insta Snow contains chemicals that react to water, but it is not going to freeze into a solid block like real snow would.
can i find insta snow in kuwait?
While we're not familiar with the international distribution of Insta Snow, you're definitely welcome to order it here. We ship worldwide.
Is this the "oldest" product, that has not been discontinued so far?
Nope. The Fireplace Scented Candle was our first non-DVD product. It's gone through a few cosmetic changes over the years, but that candle is our longest running product.
How do you make it back to what you started with?
You have to wait for the water that has been absorbed by the flakes to evaporate. You can speed this up a little bit by spreading out the flakes as much as possible so that more of them have direct contact with the air.
how long do you leave it in the freezer for to make snowmen?
You don't need to use a freezer at all. In fact, the whole point is that it doesn't need to be cold to build a snow man at home! InstaSnow will stick to itself when properly hydrated.
What would happen if you did eat it? You did say not recommended to eat.
Actually we did say that you shouldn't eat it. It's in the section titled "Can I Eat Insta Snow?"
Can you reuse it again and again?
Yes, absolutely!
How can I clean up the snow after I've finished using it? Is it reusable?
Yes, Insta Snow is reusable. Simply let it dry out and it will return to its original state.
What if i mix insta snow with real snow?
Then you'll have a mixture of real and fake snow. Nothing too spectacular will happen.
How do I dry the snow out so it can be re used?
Just give it time. You might be able to speed up the process by setting the InstaSnow on a paper towel, that way some of moisture can be absorbed from the flakes.
How long does it last?
There isn't an exact time, but in our experience Insta Snow lasts for one to two weeks. It will largely depend on how much Insta Snow you make.
is insta snow actually cold like real snow ?
Insta Snow is cool to the touch but is not as cold as actual snow.
Where could we find snow powder in india?
Right here on Vat19! We ship to over 70 countries worldwide, including India.
Can you make snow balls and throw them? It hasn't snowed here since 1973!!
You can, but they wont pack very well and might be a little flaky.
Will you make a video of you guys making an entire bag of it? how much would it make?
Probably not. I can tell you though that one whole bag will make approximately 8 gallons of Insta Snow.
hey guys i am very interested in polyacrylate and was wondering if i can use this as snow on a indoor model railroad with a 50/50 mix of water and white glue mix after expansion to permanetly create a winter scene.Oh yes it must be 3yr. old friendly?
We're not sure if a white glue mixture would keep the Insta Snow permanently puffed up. You should be able to find a similar snowy material at your hobby store which might work a little better for that purpose.
Is it for outdoor use?
You can use Insta Snow outside, but you might want to make sure the snow is fully grown first. Insta Snow is non-toxic and will not harm the environment.
can you ski on this stuff?
Maybe if you had a few dozen truckloads of it!
At some school dances, balloons are dropped. Would you recommend dropping InstaSnow at a Winter Formal or will it ruin clothing, shoes and/or hair?
Insta Snow will not ruin clothing or hair and should be perfectly safe to use at your prom.
When using Insta-Snow in your front/back yard would you recommend putting a plastic barrier between the lawn and the product for future uses? and if yes; what would be the best way to store the Insta-Snow until future use?
Absolutely. You can store Insta Snow in nearly any container to save it for future use.
What would happen if i put in in the freezer?
If you put Insta Snow in the refrigerator or freezer it will just get cold. Insta Snow contains chemicals that react to water, but it is not going to freeze into a solid block like real snow would.
How do i dry it??
Sun, heat, and wind will cause it to dry out faster. Apart from that there aren't really a whole lot of options.
Can I put it on my Magical Growing Christmas Tree?
I can't think of a better way to give your Magical Growing Christmas Tree a more seasonal touch. Great idea!
Considering i live in Canada where we actually have some real snow every year, can I eat it and is it actually cold? :)
Insta Snow is cool to the touch, but nowhere near as cold as snow. We wouldn't recommend trying to eat it.
I asked you, what will happen in a few weeks or so, and you said it returns to it's original state. When it returns to original state, can you reuse it, and if so how many times max?
Yes, Insta Snow can be reused. There is no definite limit to the number of times it can be reused.
I would like to use this snow for a scale model project i am working on, after the snow dries back into powder, can i use a spray bottle and mist the snow to "puff" it back up?
That's actually a very good way to rejuvenate the snow.
Is there a video showing how much snow a bag makes
Sorry, but we don't have a video that shows an entire bag of Insta Snow being grown.
(stupid question): Does it feel like real snow? Is it cold?
It will feel slightly cool to the touch if cold water is used.
if i put this in a tub or pool (kiddie) while i be able to lay in it?
The manufacturer does not recommend laying in Insta Snow.
Is Instasnow cold?
It is not freezing cold or icy like real snow, but InstaSnow does feel cool.
what can you do with the snow?
Usually it's used for holiday decoration. It's used in set decoration for plays also.
How does insta- snow work?
It's magic! Not really, but it is pretty amazing. The special ingredients immediately expand when water is added.
Can I use a school PO to buy Insta Snow?
Yes, we accept POs from schools. You can fax your order on school letterhead to 314-569-1909.
i plan to use this for snowboarding will it be easy enough to pack into a jump if i put it in the frezzer or will it not hold up, and also would just using cold water work to make a jump?
The manufacturer does not recommend using Insta Snow Powder to create a snowboarding ramp. This "snow" will not pack well enough and will be too slippery.
IS IT COLD WHEN YOU MAKE IT OR DOES THAT DEPEND ON THE WATER TEMP?
Insta Snow will not feel freezing cold like real snow. Using cold water will make it feel cold when made, but the coldness will wear off.
does this stuff kill your lawn
No, Insta Snow will not damage your lawn. In fact, it's good for gardens because it helps retain moisture in the soil.
I live in Portugal, and would like to order it. Do you deliver it here? If so, when do I have to buy it, so I can get it on December, 3rd?
Yes, we deliver to Portugal. If you have a time-sensitive delivery, we suggest using UPS.
Can I use a hair dryer to dry Instant Snow faster making it go back to its normal condition?
While we haven't tried this ourselves, the manufacturer informed us that you can't speed up the normal drying process with blowing air or heat. The Insta Snow drying process has to do with the humidity in the air.
Since this is a product made in China, what are my assurances that it is safe? What is the chemical makeup and is it approved by the US Government standards for safety?
Insta Snow is made of a variant of sodium polyacrylate, which has been determined to be non-hazardous by 29 CR 1910.1200 (OSHA Hazard Communication Standard). It is non-toxic and it conforms to ASTM F963 International Safety Standards. While it is not intended to be ingested, it does not contain lead or any other toxic materials.
Can I make a snowball with Insta Snow?
It's not as easy to make a snowball with Insta Snow as it is to make one from real snow, but it can be done. You'd need to put your fake snow in the freezer for a while to get it to a consistency that you can work with. At room temperature, it's more like powdery snow.
You say that Insta Snow will disappear. How will it disappear? Will it break into crumbs, simply vanish..?
That depends. If you use Insta Snow on the ground, it will eventually be pushed into the soil by real rain or snow. After a while, you won't see it on the ground anymore. If you were to use the fake snow in a bowl, though, it would eventually dry up and return to roughly its original size. In that case, the Insta Snow would not disappear.
Will it be hard to clean up if we decide to throw it all over the place?
Nothing that a vacuum couldn't take care of, but then you'd lose your Insta-Snow.
About what ratio of snow to water would make the best snow?
Each container of Insta Snow includes directions as well as a scoop which means you'll always be able to create the perfect mixture.
I have an non-verbal Autisic child in my class, he tends to stim and chew/eat anything. Should I keep it away or move him to another table or take him with the theparist? I don't know. My class is LCR 3 and has P5 - P7s in it.
Unfortunately that's not really our area of expertise. Insta Snow is non-toxic, however if your child is prone to eating or chewing on things when left to their own devices, you should probably keep Insta Snow away from them or only allow it to be used under close supervision.
If you bought about 50 pounds could it fill a pool of water that is 15 feet wide in the shape of a circle?
I can't say for sure, but it would almost certainly ruin the pool's filter.
If I poured the powder into my toilet and it turned into snow would I be able to flush it
I don't think it's worth the possibility of ruining or clogging your plumbing. Toilets are a facet of modern living that we simply cannot live without.
Does this snow go back to powder form and is able to be used again? Or is it a one time use
Insta Snow will return to its original form if left out to dry. Sun, heat, and wind will cause it to dry out faster.
Can I make a snowman with Insta Snow?
You sure can! In fact, I believe there is a photo of little snow man we made on the product page.
If I mix it with potting soil will it increase the absorbancy of the soil? Will it harm my plants? Will it change the pH balance?
While we've never tried it, Insta Snow is not too different from some of the super-absorbent commercial gels and crystals that many people use for their plants. It would probably work. If you decide to experiment with it, please let us know how it turns out!
does it melt?
Insta Snow won't melt, but instead it will start to dry out.
Is there an optimum water-to-powder ratio? *Is a perfectonist*
You should add 2 ounces of water to each scoop of Insta Snow. The scoop and instructions are included with each jar/bag of Insta Snow.
Is it real snow?
It's actually a super-absorbant polymer that just so happens to look exactly like real snow.
Can you eat it?
Insta Snow is not edible.
If the insta snow dries out, can the dried snow be reused by adding more water?
Yep. Pretty cool!
What makes the powder turn to snow?
The addition of water. The manufacturer does not disclose how to make the Insta Snow Powder though.
How cold is this "snow"? I wanted to know if it would be okay to use when making a snake movie.
It depends on the temperature of the water you use. The snow feels cool to the touch but you could use warmer or colder water if you need the snow to be a certain temperature.
Is it cold?
Insta Snow feels cool, but not icy cold like real snow.
when you put water in the fake snow, how long will it last?????
It will vary according to the environment it is in, but Insta Snow can last for about 2 weeks.
What effect does instasnow have if included in an envelope with an inkjet printed letter? Does it affect the paper or the ink with smudging etc?
We haven't tried this. Even if the printed writing would be OK, we would not recommend including loose Insta Snow with a letter or package - someone might think a harmful powder is inside! Instead, put the Insta Snow in a small plastic bag.
Can it stick together so you could make snowballs, snowmen, etc?
As you'll see in our photo, it is possible to make a small snowman. Insta Snow does not compact like regular snow, so it isn't easy to make snowballs or snowmen. Putting the Insta Snow in the freezer helps.
Do you suggest using this product for a stage show in theaters?
Insta Snow can be used on stages.
is this product safe to use in a parade
Yes, Insta Snow powder is non-toxic and safe to use in a parade.
can fake snow powder be used with fans to create a snow blizzard scene without causing irritation in eyes, skin, throat? is it light enough to blow around?
While Insta Snow is light and fluffy, it's ability to be blown around would depend on the strength of your fan. Insta Snow is non-toxic, but we still don't recommend getting it in your mouth or eyes!
Where can you buy insta snow?
Right here! We ship worldwide.
Can I add food coloring to the water to make colored snow?
Yes you can!
What type of packaging would I receive the bag of powder in? Would it be like a packet or in a box if I am an international customer? Because it is safer to put it in a box right
It would be shipped in a box.
Does it go back to powder?
Yes. As the flakes dehydrate they will eventually return to their original, powdery state.
If you colored the water to make the insta snow colored, will it dry white after the water evaporates?
No. The coloring will stain the snow itself.
What happened when the workers at your warehouse put the snow on their tongues?
We tried putting some of the powder on our tongues to see if fake snow would erupt. It didn't. And we're still alive. However, we still don't recommend trying this at home.
Is there a common chemical that will break down Insta Snow? We used it for a snow themed 21 st and with constant rain since the back yard is very slippery and "gooey". The party was fantastic btw.
Not really. The chemical reaction will break down over time. Initially, however, you could see some snow fluff up. Eventually the Insta Snow will be absorbed by the soil.
Im thinking of doing something awesome and i would like to know how many bags it would take to fill up 94 cubic feet. this is just the powder and before water is added.
I would guess approximately 100 bags of Insta Snow.
IS THERE A STORE WHERE WE CAN BUY?!?
You're already at the store - Vat19.com! I'm not aware of any other stores you might be able to get Insta Snow at.
Does the Insta-Snow dry up or shrink if left out?
Yes. If given enough time, Insta Snow will return to its original size
what will happen if you put it in the fridge or the microwave?
Refrigeration is not necessary and we do not recommend putting Insta Snow in the microwave.
You said that the snow doesn't melt for weeks. Does that mean eventually it melts and if it does how long does it take?
The snow dries out rather than melts. How long that takes depends on factors such as heat, humidity, and sunlight.
how does insta snow work?
You simply add water and it instantly fluffs up into "snow".
Can you put it in drinks?
No, Insta Snow should not be consumed.
Is it if you let it dry it van be use again? And is it really non-toxic ?
Yes, Insta Snow can be reused and is non-toxic.
can it be glued on? if so, with what type of glue?
Although we haven't tried to glue Insta Snow Powder on anything, we think you could probably use school or craft glue like you would use with glitter.
I want to use Insta Snow for my wedding, and the site has to be cleaned on the same day of putting it down. How can it be cleaned up without using a vaccum cleaner?
You would probably have to use a broom, which would be very tedious.
My friend and I bought something like this at a convenience store in these little tube things, and poured Cocaine (energy drink) on it and it worked and turned red. Will this happen with this product?
We have not tried pouring any energy drinks on the Insta Snow, but we have tried it with colored water and it did turn the Insta Snow the color of the water.
can you use instant snow outside?
Yes, we have heard of people using Insta Snow outside. How it fares depends on the weather. Lots of rain may turn the Insta Snow into a more gel-like consistency, while lots of sun may dry it out.
Can i buy it in New Zealand?
We are unaware of a brick-and-mortar store in New Zealand that sells the Insta-Snow, but we do ship worldwide!
Is it recycable?
Insta Snow Powder cannot be recycled. However, Insta Snow Powder can be reused to a certain extent. As the powder dries up, more water can be added to refresh the snow several times.
can i buy Insta snow in the uk? can you deliver quickly otherwise
While we're not aware of any Insta Snow retail locations in the UK, we do ship there. Our orders are processed within 1 business day and the actual shipping speed depends on the method that you select.
What is the snow made out of and does it smell?
The Insta Snow is made of a low-cross-linked sodium polyacrylate. It is odorless.
what makes the powder into snow?
All you need to do is add water. The inventor isn't giving up the recipe!
will this just fall slowly like real snow does if i throw it on top of my roof?
It depends on how moist the flakes are and how windy it is, but yes, Insta Snow will fall just like real snow.
We have a cat that likes to eat stuff that will come of the Christmas tree, would it be safe to put it on it without fearing that she'll get ill?
Insta Snow is non-toxic, however we cannot say for sure that it is safe for pets to eat it. If you think this will be an issue, I would suggest avoiding using Insta Snow altogether.
is it cold just like real snow? p.s. I, being a minnesota girl surley knows what real snow is like!!!!!! ;
It's cool to the touch and drifts just like real snow, but you will definitely be able to feel the difference. With that being said, I think even the most hardened northern winter survivors will appreciate Insta Snow.
How was insta snow discovered?
It wasn't really discovered as much as it was invented. However it came to be, we are glad for it!
can the fake snow be placed over water on a vase with a floating candle as a topper. will it sink into the vase is it strong enough to hold the candle, will it continue to grow above the water.
It may float for a little while, but Insta Snow will eventually sink.
can I make couloured insta snow by mixing it with coloured water or another kind of coloured liquid? and if I were to put it in a cloth bag, could I use it to dry things, since it's ultra absorbant?
If you color the water first, I think it would work pretty well. As for drying things, I can't honestly say that we've tried it, but I don't think it would be terribly efficient.
A:Insta Snow is made out of a super-absorbant polymer. Is that absorbent once it expands or before, and could it be used to clean up spills, if so, of what kind/chemical/compound?
Insta Snow is absorbant before you grow it. It is made of a low-cross-linked sodium polyacrylate.
Can you taste it without affecting any parts of your body?
Insta Snow is non-toxic, but we wouldn't recommend eating it.
How much snow does the bag of powder make, compared to the jar?
The bag of Insta Snow is a pound, while the jar is only 3.5 ounces. This means that the bag is capable of producing approximately 4.5x the snow as the jar.
how does this work?
The manufacturer does not disclose the secret to Insta Snow, but it basically absorbs water and fluffs up.
About how much would it take to fill a baby size swimming pool. Guessing the deminsions to be about 4ft circular by 8 inches deep
I'm no math whiz, but based on the dimensions you provided (4-foot diameter, 8" deep), I think you'd need about 8 bags of InstaSnow. That would make 64 gallons.
is it cold? will the cold-ness of the water u put in effect the cold-ness?
Insta Snow feels cool and damp to the touch. If you use cold water, it'll feel cold. If you use warm water, it'll feel warm. The temperature won't hold for very long though.
Can insta snow be used in a floating candle container? Thank-you!
To better answer this, we would need more details. Would you be filling up a container with only Insta Snow and trying to set candles on the snow? Are you wanting to float snow and candles in water?
I need to find a fake snow product that children can use to glue to a poster board to make a winter themed poster. Can Insta Snow (in the snow form, not powder form) be used this way?
While we've never tried to glue Insta Snow to poster board, we don't see why it wouldn't work in a similar to fashion to how glitter can be glued to paper.
Is it fire proof or flammable?
Insta Snow Powder is not flammable. It passes safety flammability testing. The manufacturer wouldn't say that Insta Snow is fire proof. It should not be used in an attempt to put out a fire.
can Insta Snow be scented?
We don't see why not, so long as any children playing with the Insta Snow were under appropriate supervision. We'd recommend adding the fragrance to the water to distribute the scent more evenly.
How many bags of fake snow powder would be required to snowify a standard sized swimming pool?
The amount of Insta Snow that you would need would depend on the size of the pool. A 1 pound bag of Insta Snow Powder will fill a bit more than 1 cubic foot of space.
after the one to two weeks, what happens to the snow does it disintegrate ? what is left behind ?
It returns to its original sand-like form. It doesn't disintegrate and is in fact reusable.
how much water will i add?? how can i know?
Each container of Insta Snow includes directions as well as a scoop which means you'll always be able to create the perfect mixture.
This is the first video i watched on vat19. But does it stick?
It's just like regular snow. It can be clumped together, but they will remain flaky. After a few weeks the flakes will dry out completely and return to their original state. Insta Snow can stick to hair and clothing.
How much does an entire bag of the totally awesome bag of snow mix make.
The bag of Insta Snow will create 8 gallons of fake snow.
What if wasn't in the sun or window ? in a mall or a shop ?
Insta Snow would still last several weeks before beginning to dehydrate.
What is the chemical process that makes this happen?
Water absorbency. The flakes are super-absorbant.
can i snowboard on Insta snow?
We haven't tried it, but we have heard that you can. You'd need a lot of Insta Snow, though!
is it safe to eat like real snow?
Although Insta-Snow Powder is non-toxic, you shouldn't eat it.
Can you make a snow ball out of it? And if so how long would you have to put it in the freezer for it to stick together?
Insta Snow does not pack like real snow, but if you put it in the freezer it can be done. Check out our snowman photo! There isn't really a set time to leave it in but you could try it after about an hour.
Can you keep adding water until there is infite amount of snow or does it stop expanding/creating more snow after some time?
Is is possible to add too much water to the Insta Snow Powder. If you follow the directions and measure properly you won't have to worry about that!
is it flammable?
Insta Snow is not flammable and passed safety flammability testing.
how is this made? Like how does it erupt and what makes the substances react?
The manufacturer does not disclose their Insta Snow Powder "recipe". The powder reacts to plain ol' water.
I would like to use it for a small tubing run for the kids on my hill, is that possible?
Sure! It might take a lot of fake snow, but it can be done.
If you use colored water to make it, will it take on the color of the water?
Yes. We tested this by adding a few drops of blue food coloring to some water, and the result was light blue Insta Snow.
If you don't have a vacuum handy, how do you clean up Insta Snow? ... like after a wedding reception? How difficult is it to get off the tables and floor if it gets 'danced' on?
If you don't have a vacuum handy, you can get most of the Insta Snow up with a broom. The rest should wipe away pretty easily with a wet cloth. If you're dealing with carpet, though, you'll almost definitely need a vacuum to remove your fake snow.
if i glue it to a foam board would it would or get all gross (using it for a project)
I don't think so. Although we haven't tried to glue Insta Snow Powder on anything, we think you could probably use school or craft glue like you would use with glitter.
Do you have a store that you can go to and buy it there?
We don't have any physical stores which you can visit. Sorry!
In how many days will it come or delivered?
That depends on the shipping method you choose. Please click on the green "Calculate Shipping" link at the top of the product page, right below the price, to find out shipping costs and delivery times.
how long does it last?
It depends on the environment it is in, but it usually lasts about two weeks.
is it reusable?
Yes, you can reuse Insta Snow. You can let it dry out and then add water to the powder to make snow again.
how are the snowballs with this fake snow?
At room temperature, Insta-Snow is like a light, powdery snow, so it is not easy to make a good solid snowball with it. However, if you place Insta-Snow in the freezer for a while, it will thicken up a bit and make for better, but still not perfect snowballs.
Would this stuff work for snowboarding? On a hill leading into a rail or something? good idea or no? and would i need a lot of it?
While we've heard of indoor snowboarding parks that use a similar compound, it would definitely take a very large quantity to ensure safety.
if insta snow has started to reduce in size can I add more water to get it to plump up again. If so how much?
Yes, simply spray the Insta Snow fake snow with a mister. Spray as much is necessary to get your snow to plump back up again.
How long does it last - say as a window display?
The length of time that your Insta Snow lasted would depend on a couple of factors - mostly depth and humidity. On average, we'd expect it to last around 2-3 weeks, but you could definitely extend that by lightly misting the area with water occasionally, or by keeping a humidifier in the area.
Is it halal?
It's not meant to be eaten, so I would say no.
Why does the bag cost so much?
Because it contains considerably more than the jar.
Does it evaporate?
Insta Snow does not evaporate.
can you eat it?
Insta Snow is not for eating. It is non-toxic, but you still should not eat it.
How safe is this for pets? I have a cat who likes to eat everything, and while I would try to keep this away from him, he'll likely get some at some point anyway.
Insta Snow is non-toxic, so your cat should be OK if it eats some. Even though it is non-toxic, we obviously don't recommend allowing your cat to eat it.
how dp you make insta snow.My kids want it but i dont want to buy it off of the computer
Our manufacturer does not disclose the "recipe" for Insta Snow. Please note that Vat19.com is a secure website and we do not sell or in any way distribute customer information.
Is one bag of the instant snow equal to one pound?
Yes.
If I place your fake snow on the carpet, will it get it wet? If I make the snow before I place it on the carpet?
You may find that the carpet gets slightly damp, but we've generally found that Insta Snow absorbs moisture rather than leaving it behind (assuming that it's mixed in the proportions stated on the package).
lost the instructions what is the snow to water ratio?
Add one scoop of the Insta Snow Powder per 2 ounces of water.
if you put insta snow in the microwave will it turn back into the powder?
We don't think that would work. We have not tried to put Insta Snow in the microwave and neither has the manufacturer. You should not microwave your Insta Snow.
We spilled the insta-snow powder on the floor but accidentally cleaned it up with a wet cloth. then i tried to vacuum it up but it didnt work. how should i tried to clean it up??
You'll find it difficult to vacuum up Insta-Snow when it is very wet or has turned to slush. Like any other wet spill, you'll need to use a mop, broom, or paper towels. Or, if you have a Wet/Dry vac, maybe that would work? Good luck!
Is this environmentally friendly?
Insta Snow is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Think of it as a jar of guilt-free, earth-loving fun!
Can I use this snow for indoor tablescaping? -Would snow "blow" into (food) plates if there is a slight wind movement? After reading some of the consumer questions, I am thinking NO.
Of course you can! Insta Snow is great for decorating tables (but be sure to protect your table because the snow contains water). Unless there was a powerful fan or a strong gust of wind, the snow shouldn't blow onto plates. Being near a regular air vent should be just fine.
Can you make snowballs with it to have a snowball fight?
Eh, Insta-Snow has more of a powdery snow consistency that isn't conducive to making really awesome snowball-fight-worthy snowballs. You could try placing it in the freezer to thicken it up a bit.
I would like to wholesale Insta Snow in Australia how do I get it?
Please call 1-800-476-1991 for information on bulk order pricing.
If the insta snow turned yellow with an odor and mold on it. Is there any way to clean it? Do I need to throw it away? Is there any way my insta snow can be saved?
You can add small amounts of water to Insta Snow to re-fluff it, but if there is mold (which we have never heard of!) you should throw it away.
Can I use this on the entire carpeted floor area of my wedding reception? will it make wet or damage the carpet and will it easily vacuum up after? if walked on does it release liquid?
You could, but bear in mind that the flakes are actually tiny flecks of water-soaked polymers, essentially making them tiny sponges. As people walk on them, they can grind into the carpet and leave wet spots.
Where do I get the insta snow?
You can get it right here at Vat19.com!
Is this made of crushed up pinnapple gummy bears?
Nope! Insta Snow is made out of a super-absorbant polymer.
I want to use the whole bag of powder to make snow. How many scoops should I make at one time?
It's completely up to you how much Insta Snow you want to make at once. We've made entire jar-fulls at one time and it's great fun.
can i snowboard on insta snow
You probably could, but it would take a huge amount of Insta Snow.
I am doing an assignment for school and I was just wanting to know how and why it works?
Our manufacturer will not disclose the recipe or secrets of Insta Snow. Sorry.
I am considering using InstaSnow artificial snow instead of birdseed as we are leaving our wedding reception. Would this product be good for this use
There are a lot of great ways that you could use Insta Snow fake snow in a wedding, but we don't recommend it as a replacement for birdseed. It's a bit moist (like real snow), and it has a tendency to stick to clothing and hair. It won't brush off easily like birdseed. On the other hand, Insta Snow powder would be great for decorative purposes or on children's tables at a reception (it's non-toxic).
Will this cause the floor to be slippery if spilled on the floor ? Even after cleaning up a spill?
Yes, it is slippery and leaves a slightly damp residue.
is Insta Snow safe to put on a Master replicas muppet replica collection?
Since Insta Snow contains water, you shouldn't put it on anything that could be damaged by water.
When you make colored Insta-Snow and let it dry up,will the powder still be colored?
As far as we can tell, yes. When we tested this with blue food coloring, the dried up powder held the color.
Hi I am in new zealand is there any insta-snow stokists down here ?
We're not aware of any retailers in New Zealand, but we're happy to ship Insta Snow and all of our other products worldwide.
how do you make it
As far as we're concerned, Insta Snow is magical powder. So, to make snow, just add water. You'll need to ask someone more qualified if you want a chemical breakdown of the process.
is it cold
Insta Snow is cool to the touch, but not icy cold like real snow. You could try using really cold water to make it cold initially, but it would eventually return to its normal cool state. To keep it cold, you could try placing it in the fridge or freezer.
"What is it made of" should be answered - it is made of a low-cross-linked sodium polyacrylate. Diaper polyacrylate is cross linked and will gel, while Insta Snow grows faster and has small particles.
Yes, what he said.
Hi, how many jars/bags do i have to buy to make one or two big snow men (average human size)? Also is it easy for the snow to stick together when making it?
Insta Snow has to be kept very very cold in order for it to stay packed together. It would be extremely difficult to make a large snowman out of Insta Snow.
is it in stores?
Insta Snow is probably available in some brick-and-mortar stores, but we don't know which ones. Keep in mind that you can always purchase direct from our website.
If using this for a play would it be light enough to fall off kids heads as they entered the stage like they were coming in from outside where it had been snowing?
Yes, InstaSnow is light and fluffy. It would be perfect for a play!
I want to put snow on my artificial x-mas tree today. Will insta snow last till x-mas if i put it on now?
Yes. However, you may need to spritz a little water on it every once in awhile to keep it extra-fluffy.
if you use warm water will the snow be warm?
The manufacturer recommends using room temperature water when mixing your Insta Snow powder. The warmer the water one uses (but don't make the water piping hot), the faster the reaction, but the snow won't feel warm for very long.
how do you make the snow
Add water.
Is the shipping cost the same if you buy one bag of Insta Snow or order many bags of Insta Snow at once????
To get a shipping quote on multiple items you can add the items to the shopping cart and enter your zip code in the Shipping Estimate box. You can also adjust the quantities in your shopping cart and see the changes in shipping cost.
is the insta snow powder reausable?
Yes, you can reuse Insta Snow. After it dries up you can add more water to it so it fluffs up again. Over time, the chemical reaction will break down and it won't get quite as fluffy.
Can you send me some research on instant snow?
Thanks for your interest in Insta Snow! Unfortunately, the only research we have is the small information sheet that comes inside each pack of Insta Snow Powder.
what if you wanted to by 80-100 gallons of instant snow. Could you get a discount?
Yes. Please give us a call at 800.476.1991 for details on bulk orders.
Will I have to pay import Tax if I'm ordering from the UK?
Vat19.com is not responsible for any taxes, tariffs, duties or other fees associated with the delivery of your package. While we maintain every effort to avoid your having to pay those fees, we have no control over the customs authorities in your country.
I'm doing my science fair project on instant snow. Your website has been really helpful!!! I was curious if instant snow in gel form has any use?
If too much water has been added to the Insta Snow Powder and a gel-like consistency has formed, the Insta Snow is ruined.
i will use it outside in southern california, however how will it act with rain?
It should not be outside if it is going to rain. Too much water makes the Insta Snow turn into a gel-like consistency rather than fluffy "snow".
can i buy in a store?
Unfortunately, we do not know of any physical locations where InstaSnow Fake Snow Powder can be purchased. Of course, we do know of one website where you can...wink wink.
is there anyway you could make it back to normal faster?
Insta Snow will return to its powder form more quickly if it's stored in a dry environment. Spreading it out in a thin layer can also speed things up a bit.
can i buy it in the philippines?
We don't know of any retail stores selling Inst Snow Powder in the Philippines. Vat19.com ships worldwide, so you can order some right here!
Hi I'm doing a production of the lion the witch and the wardrobe and want a snow effect on the stage floor, would this product work for that?
Insta Snow can be used on a floor, so long as you don't mind the clean up!
Can you re-use the Insta Snow powder after it dries up? Does it turn back to a powder form when it dries up?
Yes. It takes quite a while for Insta Snow to get all the way back to a powder (sometimes weeks, depending on the amount), but you can re-hydrate it later.
Is Insta-Snow flammable? I was considering using it as a base for a candle in a vase. Would it work?
As far as we know, Insta Snow is not flammable. As long as it was packed tightly enough in the vase (to support the candle), you shouldn't have a problem with this.
where can you specifically get this instant snow?
We're not aware of any brick-and-mortar stores that carry it, but you can order it here at Vat19 and we'll ship directly to you.
How can you dry out instant snow faster. Love to know!
The manufacturer says that there is not a way to speed up the drying process of Insta Snow.

Please excuse the shameless cross promotions!
