Overview

Khet has been replaced by Laser Chess.

Khet is like Chess but with frickin' lasers. Seriously. This awesome Egyptian-themed strategy game uses real lasers (don't worry, they're eye safe) as your mechanism for capturing your opponent's pieces.

On each turn, you can rotate or move one of your pieces to improve the path of your laser. The keys to your strategy are the mirrored pieces which deflect the laser at 90-degree angles. Use both your opponent's and your own mirrored pieces to hit their Pharaoh and win the game!

Designed for ages 9+. Batteries for the two lasers are included.

It's a board game...with lasers!

Lasers are cool, but they're not always used to their fullest potential (I'm looking at you, Dude-Giving-a-Terrible-PowerPoint-Presentation).

In the strategy game Khet, however, the laser is your primary weapon. At the end of each turn, you fire your laser (embedded in the body of your Sphinx) to determine the damage you've unleashed. Your goal is to strike your opponent's Pharaoh.

The Khet Laser Game 2.0 strategy board game on a table.
The Khet Laser Game, as its name suggests, incorporates two lasers into gameplay.

Intense strategy + lasers = fun!

Many of the pieces in Khet are mirrored and will alter the path of the laser by 90 degrees. Bounce the laser off your pieces as well as your opponent's in order to inflict maximum damage.

Please note that your Sphinx (the piece that fires the laser) cannot be moved from its starting position in the corner of the board. However, you can rotate it 90 degrees. Thus, when evaluating your opponent's moves, be aware that they may be setting up a strategy based upon a different firing direction for their laser.

The Khet Laser Game uses real lasers which are eye safe.
Use the mirrored pieces to control the direction of your laser.

Easy to learn how to play!

With lasers, mirrors, and pieces named Scarab and Anubis, you may think Khet is some kind of nerds-only game. Not true! Khet is for anyone who loves a challenging game with lasers!

Khet is a two player game. Each side has five different types of pieces: Sphinx, Pyramid, Scarab, Anubis, and Pharaoh.

Here's a quick breakdown of some of the rules:

  • The Sphinx fires your laser. It can't be taken. It can't be moved, but it can be rotated.
  • Pyramids will deflect the laser 90 degrees.
  • Scarabs can swap positions with other pieces and deflect the laser 90 degrees.
  • The Anubis is impervious to laser hits from the front. Use the Anubis strategically.
  • The Pharaoh is your King. Protect him and pursue your opponent's at all costs!

Khet is played using five different pieces.
Khet features five types of pieces. It only takes a few minutes to learn the rules.

Move a piece and then fire your laser

In the picture below, the red player has moved one of his pyramids to an adjacent square. At the end of every move, you must fire your laser. Once you fire the laser, your turn is over. Thus, you can't "peek" to determine the path of the laser.

In the setup below, the red player has moved one of his red pyramids which results in the laser harmlessly hitting the front of his Anubis. Remember, they are impervious to hits to the front.

Khet Laser Game Demonstration 1
At the end of each turn, you must fire your laser.

Strike a mirrored piece on its side to destroy it

The gray player has moved one of his pyramids in order to deflect the laser into the side of one of the red player's pyramids. This piece is now removed from the board.

Khet Laser Game Demonstration 2
Strike a mirrored piece on its side to eliminate it from the board.

You can also rotate a piece

The red player's earlier move has paid off! By rotating his Scarab 90 degrees, he has destroyed his opponent's Pharaoh and won the game!

Khet Laser Game Demonstration 3
A timely rotation of a mirrored piece can spell a quick victory!

New! Beamsplitter Expansion Pack!

The Eye of Horus Beam Splitter expansion pack increases the complexity of Khet 2.0 dramatically. The semi-transparent mirror splits your Sphinx's laser beam in two. Half of the light continues straight through the mirror while the remainder turns ninety degrees.

Because the expansion set includes one Eye of Horus Beam Splitter for each opponent, play can conceivably include up to three different laser beams. Check out the video below for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Can the lasers hurt my eyes?

Answer: The class II lasers used in Khet are considered eye safe because your blink reflex limits eye exposure. Don't stare into the beam. This is true of all lasers.

Question: Is this the dorkiest game ever invented?

Answer: No! That honor goes to Dungeons & Dragons.

Question: What does "Khet" mean?

Answer: In Egyptian mythology, Khet is fire or flame.

Question: Are batteries included?

Answer: Yes, the standard coin batteries required for operation (CR2032) are included.

Question: Is it fun?

Answer: You're kidding, right? You get to murder your opponent's pieces using lasers that you bounce around the board with mirrors! It's also Egyptian-themed.

Question: Why does Khet have an Egyptian theme?

Answer: Have you ever seen a sarcophagus? Ancient Egyptians were intelligent and artistic!

Burning Questions: You Ask and We Answer

Burning Questions: You ask and we answer!
Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff:
On the video it says "beam simulated" but will you see the light on the other player?
You wont be able to see the beam but you will be able to see the dot created by the laser on your opponent's piece.
Can the sphinx get out?
No, the Sphinx cannot be removed from play.
How Long will it take until I need to change the batteries? And what batteries dose it use?P.S. I played another version of this game and it just had scarabs, the other pieces in this one make it much cooler!
How often you need to change the batteries depends on how often you play, but the batteries that come included with the game should last you a fairly long time. If you ever need replacements, you can pick up CR2032 coin batteries at most electronics stores or convenience stores like Walgreens.
How strong is the game bored and the mirrors?
Strong enough to be used as game pieces. They're not meant to be thrown around or anything.
Can the lasers hurt your hand or any other body part?
No they cannot.
If you hit your own piece, is it out?
It would be, so you'll have to be extra careful not to do that.
Can the scarab get destroyed? If yes, which direction?
The Scarab cannot be removed from play.
How many of each piece are included per team?
There are 26 pieces altogether, with each team having 13.
Once the laser runs out of battery, can you use your own laser?
It'd be much easier to simply replace the battery. The batteries used in the Khet pieces can be found at most convenience stores.
Are the laser strong? And have you use Photoshop to make the laser line?
The lasers are class II and are eye safe. We did use Photoshop in some photos. When the laser's path was simulated in our photos, it is indicated in the photo.
In the video you can see the laser beams. how did you set this up? did you use fog or steam? thanks for being so Awesome!
The lasers in the video were edited in, but you can use a fog machine to get a similar effect at home.
What does an anubis do? and what is the difference between scarabs and pyramids?
For complete descriptions of the pieces and their abilities, please refer to the helpful online instruction guide we've provided.
Whats the difference between Khet 2.0 and the original khet board game? And which one is more fun to play?
The main differences are mostly cosmetic, but the original Khet Laser Game is no longer available. The gameplay between the two sets is identical.
What are the dimensions of the pieces?
Sphinx - 2.5" x 1.375" x 1.375", Scarab - 2.25" x 1.25" x 1.25", Pyramid - 2" x 1.25" x 1.25", Anubis - 2.5" x 1.25" x 1.25", Pharaoh - 2.125" x 1.25" x 1.25"
Will the laser ever run out of batteries?
Sadly we have not yet figured out how to make a battery last forever, so eventually they will need to be replaced. Fortunately the batteries are both common and inexpensive and can be purchased pretty much anywhere that batteries are sold.
How and when does the scarab work?
The scarab deflects the laser 90 degrees. When it is your turn you can move it, rotate it, or swap its position with a different piece.
Can you move the Sphinx from it's position to create Khet variants?
Sure, you could make up your own rules. (But the official rules do not allow the Sphinx to be moved.)
will you eventually make a version with a bigger game board and more pieces? it looks awesome and worth it but i feel like it would get too "simple" over time.
We're not the manufacturer, so we can't "make" anything. Khet, just like chess or checkers, is a simple game but it is by no means so simple that you'll master it instantly. Like all strategy games it is as simple or difficult as your opponent.
How far does the laser go?
Farther than we can accurately measure. The laser contained within the Khet Laser Game is the same kind used in most laser pointers, so it can be seen from pretty far away.
Can you actually see the lazer beams? Or do you have do pour baby powder everywhere to see the lazer?
You can't see laser beams unless they're travelling through something (smoke, dust, etc).
Is the expansion pack an add-on, or a separate Khet game its self?
It's an add-on. It's called an expansion pack because it expands upon the original game.
About how long would it take to deliver to Hawaii? Because i live very close to Hawaii, i live in Oahu.
It depends on the shipping method you choose. You can click "Calculate Shipping" and enter your zip code to view shipping options and speed.
On a scale from 1 to 10 how easy is it to see the laser?
That doesn't really make sense. If you're in a smoky or foggy room, the laser will be much easier to see. Lasers, in case you're wondering, don't look like they do in movies without something (smoke or dust) in the beam.
Can you see the entire beam of the laser or only where the dot ends up on the piece?
Unless the room is smokey you will only see the dot.
so the sphinx CANT move but any other piece can? also when/if i get this game will there be an instruction booklet that should answer a lot of my questions?
Yes. In fact, the instruction manual is available for preview at the top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section.
Where did the name Khet originate from?
In Egyptian mythology, Khet is fire or flame.
Could the laser hurt my eye & is the battery included??
The lasers are guaranteed eye safe, but you still shouldn't be shining it in your eye. The batteries are included.
Does this fit in the prank pack gift boxes?
The Prank Pack is a little too small to fit the Khet Laser Game, but that was a good idea!
Is this game more awesome than every other game in the world because your website is better than every other website so I hold the products to the same standards. You haven't let me down so far
We can't say it's the best game in the world since we haven't played all the games in the world, but I definitely believe that you're going to really enjoy playing Khet.
In the video, you say it was a Toy Of The Year finalist so, what game came in first? What game could come CLOSE to beating this game?
I'm not sure what took home the Toy of the Year prize, but we still think that Khet is an amazing game!
is this the newer version
Yes, this is Khet 2.0.
I stepped on a silver pyramid and broke it. Can I get a replacement piece?
We're sorry but we do not carry replacement pieces.
If you hit one of your own peices does it go down?
It sure can, so make sure that you plan your shot carefully.
Can we call Vat19 to order products?
You can! Our contact information can be found at the top of the page.
Is it allowed to use your opponent's mirror to get them out?
Absolutely! It makes victory that much sweeter.
Can you clean the mirrors if needed?
Sure! A regular piece of tissue should more than suffice.
What is the return policy?
You may read our return policy here.
Does this can be shipped to Philippines and transfer Ph money to Us money?
Yes, we ship ship internationally. We don't accept cash but our site will automatically charge the correct amount when you enter your payment information during checkout.
Is there another expansion pack besides Eye of Horus Beam Splitter?
The Eye of Horus is the only expansion that we carry.
Will you ship this item to Antarctica?
No one ships to Antarctica. To ship to Antarctica, you must send it to the government or academic agency that has operations in Antarctica. They will then send it along with the rest of the supplies.
Hi, can you actually see the laser beam.
Not unless it's shining through smoke or dust. You don't have to see the beam to know which piece is being hit.
Can the Scarab, or, for that matter, the Eye of Horus, (cross-promo! ) be taken? (P.S. very awesome game, LOVE how you took things like a board game, and Egyptian Mythology, and made it into another awesome thing.)
No. The laser has to stop on a non-mirrored side to remove a piece from play. Since both sides are mirrored, and since the laser does not move diagonally, those pieces cannot be knocked out by laser.
What does Anubis and Scarab mean?
Anubis is an Egyptian deity and a scarab is a type of beetle.
If a pet was near this and the laser hit there eye would it hurt them?
No, but unless the animal is laying its head in the middle of the board, there is no reason for that to happen.
what if you hit your own pharaho, do you still die?
Yes. Think of the laser as a bullet; it doesn't know or care what it hits.
Can you see the laser with the unaided eye (no smoke or dust)?
No you cannot. All you can see is the dot that appears when it hits something.
Can you actually see the laser beam, or just the red dot?
Unless you're playing in a smokey room you will only see the dot.
lets say that you by mustake hit your own peice and does that mean that you have to remove your peice?
That is correct, so you'll have to be very careful not to hit your own pieces.
Are the reflective surfaces breakable like a mirror? (I'm very clumsy)
The pieces are actually pretty sturdy and should not break easily.
are the lasers bright enough to see from 10 feet away? Also, how can i see how the lasers really look?
Absolutely. The lasers look identical to pretty much any standard lazer pointer. All you'll see when you actually play the game is the red dot.
does the laser really looks like in the video
No, which is why it says "Beam Simulated" at the bottom of the video.
how many of each piece are included?
Each side has 13 pieces which includes 1 Pharaoh, 2 Anubis, 7 Pyramids, 2 Scarabs and 1 Sphinx.
do you have to move a peice, or can you just fire your laser as your turn?
During your turn you can either move a piece, rotate a piece, or fire your laser and end the turn.
What type of battery does it take?
The Sphinx piece requires a CR2032 coin battery. They can be found almost anywhere batteries are sold.
In the game, if your laser REFLECTS OFF the enemy's pyramid or scarab, is it taken?
If the beam is reflected then the piece is not taken. You can use this to your advantage by bouncing your laser off of your opponent's pieces.
I bought this game, and the laser doesn't '''show up'' It only appears as a dot when it hits the mirrors and in your commercials, you can see its complete path! How come?
Unless the laser is being shined through fog or smoke, the beam itself will not be visible. The beams on the video were digitally added so you could see the path of the laser more clearly.
Is shipping free, if it isn't how much does it cost (Lithuania)?
Sorry, but we do not offer free international shipping. The cost of shipping and the estimated arrival dates will vary depending on the shipping method you choose at checkout. For shipping estimates, simply click the "Calculate Shipping" link above the green "Add to Cart" button near the top of any product page.
What happens when you kill your own Sphinx?
The Sphinx cannot be removed from play, but you can eliminate your other pieces.
What should the set-up of the board be with the Eye of Horus piece?
The Eye of Horus piece (sold separately) would take the place of one of your Scarab pieces.
So can the scarab just swap places with any piece, or just a piece next to it, or any of your pieces, or any of the opponents pieces? p.s. you guys are AWESOME
The Scarab can move into an adjacent square occupied by a Pyramid or Anubis of either color; the Pyramid or Anubis then goes into the square from which the Scarab started.
What happens if the mirrors mess up and the laser line is no longer straight?
The mirrors are secured to the pieces, so that should not happen.
can you really see the laser?
You can't see the path of the laser (unless you had fog in the room), but you can see where it hits. Think of a laser pointer.
What's laser power? (mw)
1mW max output.
What noise does the laser actually make?
The lasers do not make any noise at all. They emit light, not sound.
Can friendly fire kill your own Anubis from the front? The example on the box shows it can! But that seems to be against the rules! Halp!
We would suggest sticking to what the rules have to say in the matter. They definitely trump an illustration on the front of the box.
Is there instructions on the starting layout of the game?
Yes, and they are included with the game when you purchase it.
By saying 2.0, does it mean that it isn't the original and that there was one or more before it ( 1.0, 1.2, etc.) ?
Yep. The original is no longer available because the 2.0 is most recent model.
Could you tell me if the set comes with an instruction in other languages? Since I'm gonna send it to a friend who doesn't know English
The instructions are only available in English, however they do include detailed pictures which illustrate how the pieces move and what determines a victory. We have a link in the "Features and Specs" section which will show you what the instructions look like.
You should sell a smoke machine with this.
Smoke machines are expensive and messy. Besides, you can buy one at pretty much any party store.
Will my cat try to attack the game when he sees the lazer?
Only if you dart it around the room, otherwise probably not.
Does the game come in other color pieces, say black and gold?
No, the pieces only come in red and gray.
Can you take the sphinx off of the game board?
No, the Sphinx cannot be removed from play.
is there a choking hazard?
There could be, but I don't suspect that many toddlers or infants would be interested in playing. This game is recommended for ages 9 and up.
Will The Lasers In The Sphinx's Laser Ever Run Out Of Battery?
Eventually they will, but new batteries are easy to find and easy to install.
you have any game called khet laser game 1.0
We never carried the original Khet game, but it has since been discontinued.
Is battery included and what type is it?
Yes, the batteries (CR2032 coin battery) are included.
Does it come with directions for where u put the pieces on the board?
Yes, all the directions necessary to learn the game of Khet are included.
Helpful: If my laser hits one of my pieces, does it mean that my piece that has been hit with my laser is out of the game? Off-topic: Has your logo changed recently? It looks different.
Yes, you can "kill" your own pieces. Yes, we gave our logo a little makeover this year - thanks for noticing!
If the laser hits the side of a pyramid which does not have a mirror on it, does the piece count as killed?
Yes, check out the photo under the section "Strike a mirrored piece on its side to destroy it".
if i touch a laser will i get burned
No. The laser is safe.
This is the DEFINITION of "Curiously Awesome"! You guys at Vat19 are AMAZING! Time to convince my parents to buy it...
Good luck with your convincing!
Wait, so the Anubis doesn't have a mirror at all? So it's just there to absorb the laser/block the laser from hitting other pieces?
Right.
Is there a Khet 1.0? And if so, can you make a video for it?
Not anymore. That version was discontinued before we ever carried Khet.
Do the Sphinx need battery ?
Of course. Without a battery the laser would not be able to work.
Can you see the laser?
You can see the dot it makes on whatever it hits, but unless it's moving through fog or dust you won't be able to see the beam itself.
How visible are the lasers?
Exactly the same as all other lasers. You can't actually see the beam unless it's traveling through dust or smoke.
Can you change the batteries of the lasers?
Absolutely. There is a small compartment on the bottom of each Sphinx which holds the batteries.
what happens to the sphinx if it gets hit by either your laser or the opponent's laser?
Nothing, as the Sphinx cannot be removed from play. You simply lose the turn.
Is the laser really visible?
The dot it makes is, but if you notice in the video we mention that the beam is simulated. The only way the beam would be visible is if you were playing in a smokey room.
What is the Beam Splitter Expansion Pack for?
The Beam Splitter allows you to split the laser beam to add an extra level of difficulty and planning.
Are replacement pieces available anywhere if one or 2 pieces get lost?
Sorry, but we do not sell replacement pieces.
How big are the pieces???
They're various different sizes, but they aren't much larger than average chess pieces.
What batteries are needed for it?
The Sphinx piece requires a CR2032 coin battery. They can be found almost anywhere batteries are sold.
I have the original khet, and want to buy the beam splitter. If I purchase it, would it work properly with my version of the game which is again, the first version they released.
No, the expansions are not backward/forward compatible between versions. You would need to try to track down a 1.0 version of the Eye of Horus.
Do the lasers actually show up like in the video or do you only see a red dot where the laser hits (like with a laser pointer)?
You'll only see the dot. In fact, I think we even mention in the video by way of subtitle that the laser beam is simulated.
where is your wherehouse cus im about to go there tomorrow.
You can find all of our contact info and hours here. We look forward to seeing you!
If I shoot the lazer to the beam splitter ,then the lazers shoot my Pharaoh and my opponent's Pharaoh, who will win?
That would more than likely be considered a draw.
Is the exspasion pack only the eye of horus?
Yes, that is the only expansion piece at this time.
Can you only rotate it 90 degrees or can you do a 180?
Pieces can only be rotated by 90 degrees (one quarter turn) at a time.
Is the board in the box when shipped?
Yes. Everything needed to play Khet is included in the box.
what if all your mirrors are taken how do you play? they are taken out right?
Yes, the mirrors can be taken out of play. Should all of your mirrors be taken out your Pharaoh will be left defenseless.
Is it a real laser? Like a laser that you can get burned?
It is a real laser, but it's not strong enough to cause any sort of harm or damage.
Will you ship to Serbia?
Yes, we do offer shipping to Serbia.
At which direction can the anubis get destroyed?
The Anubis is only impervious to head on attacks.
How big is the board? I want this for my birthday next month.
The board is just a little smaller than the case, which is 15" x 12".
Can you use your opponent's mirrors to hit?
Yes, you can use any mirror on the board to land a hit.
Do you accept Cash on Delivery?
No, we are unable to ship COD. If you do not have a credit card, you can mail in your order with a cashier's check or money order. Click here for more info.
So does it make cool laser sounds? Or does it come with an instruction booklet to instruct you on how to make them yourself?
There are not laser sounds or instructions on how to make laser sounds. When in doubt, just say "pew pew".
Can you make your own setups?
Sure. We can't guarantee that they'll work or that they'll be fairly balanced, but you're welcome to distribute the pieces however you like. For the sake of the game, however, we recommend following the setups included in the instructions.
Was this really a Egyptian game played in Egypt?
No, nor do we claim that it is. Khet 2.0 has an Ancient Egyptian theme but the game itself is entirely modern.
How do you know if a laser hits a piece if you can't see it?
Have you ever used a laser pointer before? You know how even though you can't see the beam you can pretty easily tell where it's hitting by the red dot it creates? Just like that.
Is this portable?
Khet is about as portable as a regular chess board.
is the sphinx removable, like, to conserve space?
I'm not sure what you mean. It's not permanently attached to the board and during a game you would never need to remove the sphinx.
Do you ship anywhere to the world?
We ship to the countries found on this list.
Do you ship to the UK?
We'd be happy to!
Can you kill your own pieces?
You sure can, so be careful where you aim that laser!
Do all pieces move the same way?
Each piece has it's own role and movements. You can see them all by checking out the instruction manual.
what happens if you hit the opponents sphinx?
The Sphinx cannot be taken out by an opponent's laser.
My brother got the Khet laser game for christmas. It is sweet! But I have a question, after you trade the Scarab with another piece can you move it like a pyramid?
The Scarab simply switches places with another piece that is already in play. It does not take on the abilities of that piece.
Can you kill the pharoh from the sides or just the front?
A Pharaoh can be illuminated from any angle to be taken out of play.
1. Will the mirrors break? 2. Will the mirrors go out of place in their pieces? 3. HOW MANY AWESOME STUFF DO YOU GOT!? 4. Will the pieces chip off? 5. How many pieces do you get? 6. Do the pieces represent a chocking hazard?
With proper use, the Khet pieces will not fall apart or break. The pieces could pose a choking hazard to small children, so it would be best to keep them out of reach.
Can both the pyramid and anubis get destroyed by the laser?
Yes, both the Anubis and the Pyramid can be eliminated. Don't forget that the Anubis is impervious to head-on attacks.
What's with the 2.0. Was there an older version?
There was an original version of Khet, but we never carried it and it is no longer distributed by the manufacturer.
Does it hurt if you touch the laser? (not on purpose)
The laser used in the Khet 2.0 board game are completely harmless. Just try not to shine them into your eye!
What happens if you hit your one anubis?
The Anubis is impervious to hits from the front, meaning the laser can hit the front of the Anubis without taking it out. However, the Anubis is not impervious to hits from the back or sides.
Can i use these lasers with real mirrors? If no poohy. :(
Sure, please note that the mirrors on the game pieces are real mirrors.
What's the difference between 2.0 and 1.0 of this game?
In Khet 2.0 the laser (the Sphinx) is now in an actual piece, which can be rotated as a player's move. With the original Khet game the lasers were built in to the board. There is an additional piece, the Anubis, in Khet 2.0, which helps to block the pharaoh. Also, the board itself is smaller and sleeker.
is it safe ps its my birth day
Yes, it is safe. You should not look at this laser or any other laser. Khet is recommended for ages 9+. Happy Birthday!
The pharaoh is the piece you need to knock out, the Pyramid, Scarab, and Eye of Horus are mirror pieces, and the Sphinx is the laser pointer, but what does the Anubis do? Also, what pieces can you knock out?
We have included a downloadable version of the instruction manual at the top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section. You'll find the answers to any questions you may have there.
Will you ship to South Korea?
Yes, we ship internationally.
Can you ship it to Indonesia ? And if I live in an apartment does it really need a postal code? If yes where should I find the postal code? LoL
Yes, we ship internationally. We need your FULL address, so if that includes a postal code then yes. We assume you can ask your local post office what your postal code is (assuming you have one).
Can you burn yourself with the laser?
The laser is less powerful than a standard office laser pointer, and we even mention that it's eye-safe, so no, it will not burn you. I don't think we could sell what basically amounts to a children's toy if it included lasers that can burn you.
Can you see the laser beam?
You can see the dot the laser makes when it hits its target, but you cannot see the actual beam unless it's traveling through dust or smoke.
I noticed that some pieces have Laser Maze counterparts Laser=Sphinx Double-sided Mirror=Scarab Beam Spliter= Eye of Hourus. Have you noticed this? Does there seem to be any more?
The two games are certainly similar in that they both use lasers and laser-modifying game pieces.
I am hoping to get this product for Christmas but i have been wondering are the lazer that strong and if I break it will you replace it or not. Do you have a full refund if not liked. Thank you for reading my message. Thanks vat19
The laser is exactly the same as what you might find in a normal office laser pointer. We do not sell replacement pieces, so you'll have to be careful not to break them. If you don't like an item you have 30 days to send it back. For more information regarding returns, please refer to our return policy.
Is it possible to get replacement pieces?
I'm sorry, but we do not sell replacement parts.
I got this but it takes forever to set up?
So does a Jenga tower but that doesn't make it any less satisfying! Just be glad that this isn't a laser version of Risk.
My friend has one and it says on the laser peace that not to point in eye but you said it was eye safe is it really eye safe then?
It's eye safe in that it won't blind you if you accidentally shine it in your eye. This does NOT mean it's safe to intentionally shine a laser in your eyes for prolonged periods of time.
Do you have to fire your laser at the end of every turn?
Specific answers regarding gameplay can be found in the copy of the instructions found here. These can also be found at the top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section.
Will you ever sell Khet the lazer game 1.0?
No. Most manufacturers don't continue making something when a better version becomes available.
Won't it be hard to see the dot of the laser on the red pieces?
Nope. A bright red laser dot is pretty easy to spot.
Did you make the product? If you did, I would LOVE a 3.0 with different color variations, a bigger board, a laser splitter spliting the laser do 3 lasers, an extra range piece that could move farther, and more
We're not the manufacturer, but we'll keep an eye out any future models they might come up with!
What if the sphinx is hit by the laser?
Nothing. The Sphinx cannot be removed from play.
Can a Scarab/Eye of Horus move normally without having to swap positions?
Yes, the Scarab can move without having to swap places.
Would it be difficult to notice the red dot on the red pieces?
Not at all, actually. The laser is pretty bright.
Does the laser hurt?
Not at all. In fact, this is one of the safest lasers one can own!
How exactly does the beam splitter work? Does it add any more pieces to the game?
Yes, it adds a whole new piece to the game. It's semi-transparent, so the beam is actually split into two different directions.
What if the sphinx hits the other sphinx with the laser dose it count or dose nothing happen?
Nothing happens because the Sphinx cannot be taken out by an opponent's laser.
What happens when the laser hits the other laser?
Nothing happens. That is the end of the person's turn, but the lasers are not removed.
So the only piece that should left standing is the sphinx or all the pieces must be eliminated?
The goal is to eliminate the Pharaoh. You don't need to eliminate all the other pieces to reach this goal.
Did the name Khet come from "Kheta", an ancient name for Egypt?
In Egyptian mythology, Khet is fire or flame.
Can you replace the sphinx's laser by simply inserting a triple or double A battery and how long does the laser last?
If the laser dies, changing the batteries would be the only thing you need to do. As for how long the laser lasts, you should be able to get months of play out of a single set of batteries.
How does the set-up start out?
You can preview the starting positions by checking out our online instruction manual.
What if your laser somehow hits nothing?
Your turn is over whether your laser hits a piece or not. We have a copy of the rules available for download near the top of this page in case you need them.
How long should a game last?
That all depends on the skill level(s) of the players.
How to change the batteries if it's dead?
The batteries are in the Sphinx piece. There is a small screw underneath the piece to open the battery compartment.
can the laser blind people?
No. If it could it would not be able to be used in a toy. You should not stare at the laser though.
video? It would be very useful to explain the game =D
Yes, we are working on a video now.
Are they real lazers or lights?
These are real lasers.
Is the expansion pack like a DLC for a game?
You could say that, though expansions for board games have been around a fair bit longer than expansions for video games.
Who will win if both Pharaoh are hit ?
That would be impossible without the beam splitter, though I would say that the winner would be the person who didn't use such a careless move.
In one of the pictures I can see the beam and it doesn't say beam simulated for something-something Is the beam going through fog or is my money wasted?
The beam is going through smoke.
What is the relevance of the Beam Splitter Expansion Pack?
Check out the section where we not only describe what it does, but also provide a video of it in action and how it changes the game.
Say we have two players who are very skilled, playing against each other. About how much time will the game last?
We have no idea. "Very skilled" could mean that the game could go on for a long time or a very short time depending on how they play.
What is the length of the game?
How long a game lasts will ultimately depend on the skill of the players.
I'm nervous! Is it real lasers?!
The lasers are real but they are completely harmless.
Is the beamsplitter compatible with khet 2.0? Other sites claim it works only with the first version of khet.
The Beam Splitter is compatible with Khet 2.0.
Everytime you end your turn do you have to fire the laser?
That is correct. Please note that we have a copy of the instructions available for download at the top of the page in the "Features and Specs" section.
Can you block your pharaoh with the different towers? Plus yall guys are awesome
Thanks! You might be able to block your Pharaoh once, but don't forget that a piece that is hit with a laser is taken off the board.
What are the common uses of this game? Is it a lot like Stratego?
It's a strategic board game which is meant to be entertaining.
If the lasers are eye safe, can you see them?
Being "eye safe" means that they won't permanently damage your eyes if one of the beams accidentally hits you in the eye. You can see the dot that the laser makes, but you can't see the beam unless there's something drifting through the beam (dust, moisture, etc).
What happens if the laser goes off the board?
Then it's the next player's turn, of course.
Is the point of the game to kill all the enemy pieces? Or is it to kill the enemy sphinx? If the latter, could a game possibly be won in a few moves?
Your goal is to strike your opponent's Pharaoh.
1. do you say Check mate? 2. 0:58 would I still get the other team's pyramid?
It's not necessary, as the laser will indicate that you've won. You can only take a piece if the laser stops on said piece. Using an opponents pyramid to bounce your laser in another direction does not remove it from play.
are the lasers aligned perfectly or are they not always perfect and the laser tilt to the side?
If the lasers weren't aligned perfectly the game simply wouldn't work.
Are the lasers real or are they red light?
They're real lasers. If it were just a red bulb you wouldn't be able to see which piece was being hit.
is there any reason for the images depicted on the base
Decoration as well as orientation when setting up the board.
Do you sell the tower that has more pieces
Currently the only expansion available is the Eye of Horus. Expansions from the previous versions of Khet are not compatible with 2.0.
can a scarab be killed by the laser/is there a spot where the scarab is vunerable to an attack?
The Scarab cannot be removed from play.
Can you use the other teams pyramid to your advantage?
Of course! If you can bounce a shot off your opponent's piece to land a hit, then by all means do!
how do you set it up like before the first turn?
There are several different setups which are included in the instruction manual.
What happens when both pharaohs are killed at the same time useing the eye of horus.
Then that would be pretty bad luck!
What if the burning questions were actually asked by the employees at Vat19 to promote their products?
That would be a pretty incredible use of our time. It's much easier to simply answer real questions from real customers!
Will you ship to Bahrain(Arabian Gulf)?
Yes, we do offer shipping to Bahrain.
Whats the point of a anubis? What can it do escept be killed with a frickin' laser beam?
The Anubis can block the laser, as it can only be taken if hit on the front. If the laser hits the side or back of the Anubis, he remains on the board.
Does the label on the box say "khet" or "Khet laser game" or anything else mentioning laser? Because if it does, the postage people in australia might not let it through :(
The box does say "Laser" on it, but we have had no problems with shipping this game to Australia.
Can you see the beam or only the dot on the laser?
Unless there is a fine mist or smoke in front of the laser, the beam is invisible. Otherwise, you will only be able to see the dot.
How many pieces are there in each color? In other words how many pyramids, Anubises, and scarabs does each team get?
Each side has 13 pieces which includes 1 Pharaoh, 2 Anubis, 7 Pyramids, 2 Scarabs and 1 sphinx.
what happens if your opponents lazer hits your sphinx
Nothing. The Sphinx cannot be "taken".
is this harder than chess
We think so. And it's more interesting!
Is it deliverable to India. If yes then procedure please
Yes it is! Simply select your country from the icon at the bottom of the website and add it to your cart!
will the laser be allowed in australia? ps love this website, best thing ever!!!!!
We haven't had any issues with shipping the Khet game internationally.
What's the difference between this and the laser maze?
They're two completely different games which are played in two completely different ways. The only thing they have in common are lasers.
Where can I order replacement pieces?
We do not sell replacement pieces. You would need to contact the manufacturer directly.
What would happen if the sphinx is hit?
We have a whole section on the page dedicated to the basic rules of the game: "The Sphinx fires your laser. It can't be taken. It can't be moved, but it can be rotated."
Does a regular, ordinary laser pointer work as well?
Yes, but I'm not sure how you would implement it into the game. I mean, the Sphinx pieces already have a laser pointer built into their bases.
If I bought only the eye of horus expansion pack then would I only get the two new pieces or would I get the whole game+new peices
Just the two pieces. That's what makes it an expansion pack.
Can your own beam accidentally kill your own players? if so, and you know your player will be killed by your own beam, do you have to shoot your laser each turn?
Yes, you can knock out your own pieces. Since you're supposed to move the mirrors before firing the laser, the only way this can happen is if you are careless with mirror placement. You can't force yourself to kill your own pieces.
Are there more expansions being made?
Not that we're aware of, but if more become available we will definitely check them out.
Do you see the laser appear on the pieces to indicate they are taken out? Like in Laser Maze?
Yes, you can see the laser's dot perfectly on the piece being hit.
What do the symbols on the board mean? Do they have a significant meaning or are they just random?
They're mysterious Egyptian hieroglyphics. We wouldn't dream of robbing you of the fun of finding out their secret meanings.
Do the eye of horus come in the box if we bought the expansion?
They'd be shipped in the same box but they are in fact two separate products.
We need to pay for shipping to Thailand or not?
Yes. We do not currently offer free international shipping.
How long will the battery last in the sphinx piece?
That depends on how often and how long you play. The batteries should last a long time, however.
Can you change the laser module in the sphinx?
Maybe if you're particularly clever with electronics, but there's no official or recommended way of doing it.
What is the beam spliter expantion pack?
The Eye of Horus Beam Splitter expansion pack increases the complexity of Khet 2.0 dramatically. The semi-transparent mirror splits your Sphinx's laser beam in two. Half of the light continues straight through the mirror while the remainder turns ninety degrees.
Aweeeeesome game.. I love this.. And, mind explaining the classes of lasers so I can get an idea of what the type of lasers are safe or not, just in case if my game some how has a higher class laser for some apparent reason..
It won't. By typing "laser classifications" into Google I found a wealth of information that might be useful to you.
How fast do the batteries run out?
That depends on how often and how long you play. The batteries should last a long time, however.
If you accidentaly touch the laser, would anything happen to your hand?
Not at all. The lasers are perfectly safe to touch.
In the first version of Khet, there was a piece called an obelisk which could stack with another obelisk. Did they get rid of it or does the Anubis somehow replace it?
I'm not terribly familiar with earlier versions of the game. The instructions are available at the top of the page, so you can probably compare your knowledge of the older game by reading them.
Have you ever shipped to Saudi Arabia ?
All the time!
Does anything happen if you put your finger in front of the beam?
Nope. You'll just interrupt the beam.
Have you ever shipped to Belgium?
We have! We also ship to over 70 other countries worldwide.
If you trade the positions of your piece and an enemy piece, do you need to ask if he/she wants to trade?
No, you do not need to ask for your opponent's permission.
What will happen when i will use the arctic spyder 3 laser beam to attack my opponent?
Well, since the Arctic Spyder is a high energy laser which can easily burn through plastic, you can probably guess what will happen.
Can a scarab be taken out?
The Scarab cannot be removed from play.
Is there like a gas or something I can use without covering the area or board that let's me see the actual laser beam? Such like steam ,baby powder, etc.
You can buy fairly inexpensive fog machines at party stores that can allow you to see the laser beam a bit better.
Does Khet the laser game 2.0 comes with a instuction booklet?
Yes, the instructions are included.
Can it go off the board.
If the laser does not make contact with an opposing piece it will continue in a straight line off the table. No worries though, the laser is completely harmless.
are they rechargeable?
The batteries can be replaced if needed.
What if you mess up real bad and the laser hits your sphinx what happens?
Nothing would happen because the Sphinx cannot be "taken".
How is it safe when you shouldn't stare at the lazer
The lasers are considered eye safe because your blink reflex naturally limits eye exposure. Just like you shouldn't intentionally stare at the sun, you shouldn't intentionally stare into any laser.
What does the Beam Splitter Expansion Pack include?
The Beam Splitters. It's operating on the assumption that you already have the full game.
Can you see the laser's?
You can see the dot where the laser is terminating. You can't see the beam unless it's shining through fog or dust.
Will you ship it to my country? If you can how much will it cost?[khet laser game 2.0]
It's hard to say for sure since you didn't mention which country you live in, but here is a list of all the countries we offer shipping to. Shipping costs will depend on the shipping method you choose when you check out online.
What is the setup if you buy 2 sets of eye of horus packs? Can you link me a picture of it?
The instructions are included with the Eye of Horus piece. We do not have a picture to share. Sorry!
Can the mirrors break?
Not easily, but yes, you could break them if you really wanted to.
does it hurt if by accident you touch the laser?
Nope. We wouldn't sell it if the laser was that powerful!
Do you deliver to the philipines?
Yes, we ship to the Philippines.
how much force does it take to push the head of the sphinx? is it harder to push then an average water gun?
It's about as difficult as pressing the button on your TV remote (not very difficult at all).
Does the laser beam ever run out? Do you have to replace a battery of some sort?
Eventually you will need to replace the battery, but it might not be for a long time. The batteries can be easily found at most convenience stores.
Does it come with the beam splitter
No, the beam splitter is sold separately.
wut is diferent between the board game and expansion pack?
The expansion pack simply contains extra pieces to add a new challenge to the already existing board game.
Is it a choking hazzard?
The Khet pieces are small, so they may present a choking hazard to small children. The manufacturer recommends that this product only be used by ages 9 and up.
So the scarab has to be adjacent to a pyramid or an anubis to swap positions?
Yes, that is correct.
Can you shoot and destroy the Sphinx (or the lazer shooter) by the rules?
No, the Sphinx cannot be killed.
Can i see the laser?
You can see the dot it makes on whatever it hits, but unless it's moving through fog or dust you won't be able to see the beam itself.
Is it a beam or pointer?
Those are both the same thing. A laser pointer emits a laser beam.
Do you ship to Israel?
Yes, we ship internationally.
Hey guys. Just wondering,is there a way to sort of make your own pieces? And also, could you ask the manufacturers to make some extra pieces to go along with expansion packs? I saw something about a obilisk before. If you cannot, well thats fine.
We can make suggestions, but we have no way of making the manufacturer produce custom pieces. As for making your own, I suppose it's possible if you have the artistic ability.
2 questions: #1 Can you use the other players' Pyramid/Scarib (like not moving them)to hit one of thier pieces? #2 What is the object of the game and how do you win?
I think the instructions will help clear up any questions you might have.
what does beam simulated mean?
Exactly that. It means that we added the beam digitally.
ik wut the difference is but why not just put the pieces with game board and raise price of game?
Because the games are all already packaged and sealed. It's easier for everybody to simply have the expansion pieces sold separately.
If my own laser hits my pharaoh, do I lose?
Yes.
Can the scarab switch with any piece or just your pieces? If it can switch with any piece, couldn't you just swap the enemy pharaoh in front of your Sphinx?
You can switch with only a pyramid or an anubis of either color. This is explained in #7 in the instruction book.
will the lazers hurt your hand?
No, you cannot feel it. The lasers are safe - this is a toy!
How about storage??
It comes in a box (with a handle) that it can be stored in.
Do you ship to Guatemala?
We do not. Sorry!
Can you move your opponent's piece?
Not unless you're playing against yourself. Much like chess, you may only move your own pieces.
Can you play by yourself?
I suppose so. It might be a little difficult if your opponent knows your next move, though.
Can't you tie?
I suppose that a stalemate could be theoretically possible, but I wouldn't really consider it a tie.
What happens if the laser runs out of battery, can you get a new one. Is the laser easy to see? Do you need(or should you) use anything to make the laser more visible.
The batteries in the Sphinx pieces are easily replaceable. Also, unless you're playing in a smoky room, the actual beam of the laser isn't visible.
What will happen if a sphinx will hit a mirror on a pyramid that will be taken by the other sphinx?
Your Sphinx is not able to take out your opponent's Sphinx. That being said, all other pieces are in play. This includes your own, so be careful where you aim your mirrors because you can hit your own pieces.
can my sphinxes laser bounce off an opponents pyramid/scarab?
The sphinx's laser bounces off of any mirrors on the board.
Can you take out your own pieces?
Yes, you can kill your own pieces. Sometimes you can use this to your advantage.
Will the laser burn my eyes?
Nope! The lasers are completely eye safe. This does not mean you should be shining lasers in your eyes, though.
Can My Pieces Use the Mirror Of my Enemy To finish of my Enemies Pieces?
That is correct. All mirrors are in play, so be careful where you line them up!
Whats the object of the game?
The object is to reflect your laser off the game pieces and hit your opponent's Pharaoh. It's a little like chess, but with lasers!
are there instructions?
Yes, rules and instructions are included.
do any of the pieces represent a chess piece? if so, do they HAVE to make the same moves as the chess piece would?
Though similar in design, Khet is not simply chess and the pieces do have different moves. For a full detail of the game and how it's played, you can review the instructions here.
what month will the vid come out? TELL THE MASTER!
March 2011.
where is the first version?
We never sold the original version of Khet and it is no longer available from the manufacturer.
You said that the laser is invisible unless you have some sort of smoke. Then if I calculate wrong and the laser hits something else than I calculated, would I easily see the beam-dot or would I have to search for it on every piece?
The dot created by the laser is pretty bright, so you shouldn't have any problem locating it.
what does the pharaoh do and does it have a mirror?
The Pharaoh is the piece you want to protect from your opponent's laser. It can move and it does not have a mirror.
does this toy available in other store such as super market?
We do not know of any retail stores or mass merchants that sell Khet.
i learned about egypt in school. this game makes it even cooler!!!
Yes, it is an awesome game.
Would the laser be more visible if I played in a room where the walls were made of fog machines?
Sure, but I think it'd be hard to see much else in that case.
what happened to khet 1?
We never sold the original Khet, but the manufacturer updated it and discontinued it.
How bright is the laser? (laser pointer, flashlight etc?)
The laser is Class II. It is a laser like a laser pointer, not a flashlight.
Does this work with the splitter and riser expansions from the original Khet?
No. The squares on Khet 2.0 are different sizes.
Hi, my eyes are... How do I say this, laser sensitive. And I tend to put my head on the edge of the table. What if i get with a laser to the eye?
I think everyone has eyes that are sensitive to lasers. The lasers in the Khet pieces, however, are eye safe. This does not mean you should be shining it directly into your eyes.
whats the difference between the pyramid and scarab?
Both will deflect the laser 90 degrees, but the Scarab can swap positions with other pieces.

Please excuse the shameless cross promotions!
