Power Dome EX

Power Dome EX

The Power Dome EX should be in every car's trunk

In our opinion, the Power Dome EX should come standard with every car sold in the U.S. Of course, that would be bad for us because then you wouldn't need to buy one from us...

We fell in love with the Power Dome EX while creating the video for it. It is so easy to use and it has so much power. We jumpstarted cars, filled up tires, powered iPods, ran drills and fridges, and never once had to recharge it.

Jumpstart a dead battery
Inflate your tires
Power Dome EX can jumpstart a dead battery
Power Dome EX can inflate a completely flat tire
600 cranking amps and industrial quality 6 gauge wires.
The 260 PSI air compressor inflates a 16" tire in only 5-10 minutes

Provides power for all types of devices

The Power Dome EX can simulatenously power 2 AC appliances, 1 DC appliance, and 1 USB port. That means that if the power goes out, you could run a portable fridge, a drill, a cell phone, and a USB Lava Lamp all at the same time.

We think it's obvious why you'd need the fridge and cell phone, but perhaps the drill and lava lamp require explanation. Let's say that the power is out because alien's have landed on earth and are trying to take over the planet. You use the drill to board up your house. But, they're dastardly devils, so when you find one slinking around your living room, you mesmerize it with your USB Lava Lamp while Joaquin Phoenix bashes it over the head with a baseball bat and your eight year old daughter tosses a dixie cup worth of water on it and it melts away. So, we think it's pretty obvious why you need to buy a Power Dome EX right away.

Power Dome EX has 2 AC outletsPower Dome EX supplies 1 DC outletThe Power Dome EX can even power your USB devices
The Power Dome EX can simultaneously power 2 AC outlets, 1 DC outlet, and 1 USB port.

Conveniently features an LED lamp and radio

The LED light means you never have to change the bulbs because they'll last nearly a lifetime. The AM/FM radio gets darned good reception. We used it in our set shop and warehouse and every station was crystal clear. The optional audio input jack is awesome because you can hook up your iPod or portable CD player (which is probably somewhere in the attic on top of your original WalkMan). OK, so maybe you'll only use it with an MP3 player.

Power Dome EX features a 5 LED work light
The bright 5 LED light is a must-have if the power goes out.

Burning Questions: You Ask and We Answer

Burning Questions: You ask and we answer!
Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff:
the description states that it has 600 amp cranking power- does it have a hand crank? -- that would be a good feature to create more power if there's not access to an electrical outlet
No, the Power Dome EX Compact Generator has a lot of functions, but it does not include a hand crank.
Can I use this to charge my motorcyle battery thru a battery tender?
The Power Dome EX can be used with a battery tender if you are using it to jump start a vehicle. But if you are just using the battery tender to power your vehicle's battery then no, the Power Dome EX will not work for you.
Once the life span of the internal battery is over, where do you buy the replacement?
You should be able to buy a battery at an electronics store or a battery store, such as Batteries Plus.
How many amps is the battery inside the power dome?
The internal battery capacity is 600 amps.
would this be able to run a 250 watt light off one of the plugs and if so how long? Also if its thats strong would it be able to power 2 which would be 500 watts.
The Power Dome EX could power one 250 watt light for about 45 minutes. However, it could not power two of these lights, as the combined wattage (500 watts) exceeds the Power Dome's 400 watt capacity.
Most of the portable units, like this one, are only capable of jump-starting of just moderately discharged batteries. How about this one? Is it capable of jump-starting of completely depleted battery
It can jumpstart a car to get electricity to the battery, but it cannot bring a dead battery back to life. It would take a long time to give charge to a completely dead battery, and the battery may or may not hold the charge.
Can you use the battery jumper cables with an external battery for longer run times, and can you charge it with the battery jumper cables?
The battery jumper cables do not have a reverse system on them, so you cannot charge the Power Dome with the jumper cables; it will blow out the fuse. If you wanted the Power Dome to run while being charged, you would have to use the cigarette lighter or the DC cable at the same time while powering it. However, the manufacturer does not recommend this because it might have an effect on the battery.
what type of warranty does this product have?
The Power Dome EX has a one-year warranty.
once you have charged an item, does the generator itself have any juice left, or is it required to be recharged again right away?
No. From a fully charged state, you shouldn't have any trouble performing several functions on a single charge.
i'd like to know if this product will run a coffee maker, toaster, and small tv, not all at once. and if so, how long would the charge hold. these are l20w. i'm have trouble finding one.
Assuming the battery is fully charged and new, and the AC load is continuous, a 120-watt appliance should operate for 40 minutes. If the appliance cycles on and off, then the run time will be longer. As the battery ages, the run time will gradually decline even though the battery is fully charged.
how do you charge it back up?
The Power Dome EX needs to be charged using either a wall socket (AC) or a vehicle outlet (DC).
What about a 150 watt ceramic heater? How long would that last?
This is difficult to determine. Unlike other products, you can't go by just the wattage of the heater; you must go by the peak surge. Since heaters produce heat, the peak surge can be as much as ten times the actually wattage. This would make them too powerful for the Power Dome EX to run them.
If the SelfCharge Auto Jumper can both be charged by and jump start a car by being plugged into the lighter outlet, and this can be charged in that manner, can it also jump by the lighter outlet?
No, the Power Dome EX is only able to jump vehicles with the included jumper cables.
Is the compressor only good for filling tires or can it be used to blow out dusty computers?
We have not tried it, but the manufacturer thinks it would be OK to use it for that purpose.
can you use a 700 watt microwave
No. The Power Dome EX has a 400 Watt inverter and would not be able to power a 700 Watt microwave.
How much effort is required to replace the battery? Is it a 1 hour job? How do you find a compatible replacement battery?
The Power Dome EX uses a 12 V 18 Amp Sealed Lead Acid Battery. This item has a one year manufacturer's warranty, but the warranty would be voided if you were to change the battery yourself. The manufacturer does not recommend changing the battery yourself because of the warranty and for safety precautions. The lifespan of the battery is 2-3 years, depending on usage.
Is gas it operated?
No.
if you recharge your car battery, does the generator have any juice left to do anything else?
Yes. We jumpstarted cars, filled up tires, powered iPods, ran drills and fridges and never once had to recharge it.
Is it waterproof/weatherproof? If I kept this in the bed of my truck, and it rained, would the power dome still be safe?
The Power Dome is relatively weatherproof, but the manufacturer suggests not allowing it to become excessively wet. In the event of rain, dry it off and try to put it somewhere dry. If your truck has a toolbox you could store it in there, but it is not recommended that it be left out in harsh weather.
I have a medical device that consumes 1 amp ac, 3 amps dc. How long, with a full charge, would the Power Dome EX 400 run my medical device? Ty.
The Power Dome will run your equipment for about 2-3 hours. However, most physicians recommend using pure sine power inverters with medical equipment.
can you keep it plugged in all the time or will that over heat it? like if i just keep it plugged in all the time until i need it
No, never leave the Power Dome EX charging longer then the recommended amount of time. It will not overheat but it may damage the internal battery. The recommended initial charge time is 48 hours, uninterrupted. Subsequent charges should not exceed 38 hours.
How does it feel about water? I'm thinking about using it for a small electric trolling motor in my boat.
While a bit of water splashed onto the PowerDome is not likely to hurt it, not all of its ports are protected from the water. You should avoid submersion or excess water. Also, make sure the motor consumes no more than 400 watts if you do connect it to the trolling motor.
can you run a full size fridge, portable heater or a fan?
We doubt that you'd be able to run a full-size fridge, but the PowerDome shouldn't have any trouble with the heater or fan.
How much does it weigh?
The Power Dome EX Compact Generator weighs almost 20 pounds.
If the battery dies within a year, will the warranty cover the replacement of a new one?
The Power Dome EX comes with a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer. This covers malfunctions and defects that are not the result of negligence.
What is an approximate life span of the battery? When would I have to purchase a new one?
The lifespan of the battery is 2-3 years, depending on usage.
Is there any way to charge this generator fully with out it taking 12 to 36 and is there anyway to make the energy last longer say using 200 watts?
The charging time will depend on how much of the battery needs to be charged, but when it arrives it will take up to 48 hours to fully charge it. The only way to really make the charge last longer is to avoid continuous use of whatever appliance is attached to it.
Would you recommend leaving the Power Dome in your car or truck charging in your cigarette lighter/DC outlet when not in use ?
You should only charge the Power Dome when your car's engine is running. Otherwise, you will drain your car's battery.
Will this jump start a yanmar 3gm30f 27hp inboard motor on a sailboat if my batteries (2 12vdc gr24) dont have the ower? Do I just hook this up to one of those batteries like I would my car?
Yes. As long as the PowerDome is fully charged, you should have no trouble jump-starting your boat with it.
can you recharge more than one item at a time?
Yes. The Power Dome EX can simulatenously power 2 AC appliances, 1 DC appliance, and 1 USB port. That would allow you to recharge a number of items at the same time.
If I use the 400 watt inverter, and I blow out the 40 app fuse, do I have to buy new ones? If so, which kind of fuse do I have to buy to replace the dead fuse (price could be added also.)?
The manufacturer tells us that if the fuse is blown due to misuse or consumer error, then they cannot replace it for you, and a new 40amp fuse must be purchased. You can find one at any automotive store.
My power went out this last winter, and so did the heat. Would the Power Dome run a small space heater? I wouldn't need much heat, but even a little would have been great during the storms of 2010.
We need to know the wattage of the space heater in order to provide an accurate answer.
How much does it weigh?
The Power Dome weighs about 18 pounds.
can you recharge it by solar? and how do you dispose of the lead acid?
Yes, the Power Dome EX can be recharged by a solar panel using the DC socket. The manufacturer was able to charge the Power Dome battery (12V 18AH) from a solar panel that outputs 18V DC. As for the lead acid battery, it has a normal operating life of many years. When it expires, it should be removed for recycling or proper disposal. Before disposing, cover the battery terminals with tape. Check with your local recycling authority for proper disposal methods.
Could you run an electric weed eater through this?
We need to know the wattage of your weed eater in order to answer this question accurately.
Can I use for my home refridgerator?
Unfortunately, no. The Power Dome is equipped to handle 400 watts, and your average refrigerator requires about twice that at 800 watts, and that does not include the freezer.
yes, my family and I are going camping in a few weeks and would like to know how long this generator holds a charge. we will need this for our lightning, etc. please give us the heads up?
How long the Power Dome EX Compact Generator holds a charge depends on what it is powering.
Internal battery type: Sealed lead acid Is this battery replacable?
The Power Dome's internal battery is both rechargeable and replaceable.
How big is it?
The Power Dome EX is 12" in length, 12" in height, and 9" in width. It weighs about 20 lbs.
Can it catch fire?
The Power Dome will not catch on fire if you follow the included instructions. We have never had a report of one catching on fire.
lol can u use the power dome to charge its self ?
No, that doesn't quite work.
Hi, Does this product have a warranty?
It comes with a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer.
Why is this listed as a generator? Its a battery, albeit a very cool one, but does not in fact generate electricity.
Technically, you are correct. The Power Dome EX is run by battery and not any sort of gas, so in the strictest sense of the word, it is not a generator. However, in the sense that a generator is a discreet and portable source of power, it certainly fits the bill. Lastly, hey, that's what the manufacturer calls it!
what are its demensions
The Power Dome EX is 12" in length, 12" in height, and 9" in width.
Could you share an equation for usage time & watts used (watts/hour)? For instance... for how long will it operate with a continuous # of watts? THANKS!
The Power Dome EX Compact Generator has a 17 AH battery. As a basic rule for 12-volt batteries, 17 AH X 12 Volts is equal to 204 Watt hours if slowly discharged.
how many times can this unit be re-charged befor its trash, or life expectancy of this product?
That would be largely dependent on the way that you used it. Since the manufacturer offers a 1-year warranty, we suspect that it will generally last at least that long (and probably much longer) under normal usage conditions.
Your video says it the tool for the MAN, I have this power source and as a female it has saved many dead batteries and several flat tires...In fact, you should mark it specifically for women drivers!
Thank you for setting us straight!
The question was asked: Could this power the Lasko MyHeat Personal Ceramic Heater if it uses 200 watts? I tried. A fully charged Powerdome can power it for 5 minutes before it starts to squeal and shut off.
That's good to know. Thanks!
Will it run a computer?
Yes, but only for a brief amount of time. A laptop would definitely last longer than a desktop.
How do you turn on the power dome generator?
Via the handy power switch.
What is the noise level if any?
The Power Dome is completely silent.
Does it use gas?
The Power Dome EX needs to be electrically charged. It does not run on gasoline.
Forgive me if I'm a bit dense, but my appliances run on 220 volts. Can I use this? And for how many hours?
Unfortunately, the Power Dome EX is not compatible with appliances that run on 220 volts.
Can you explain how to extend the battery life and watt hours ? Does the battery have a memory? Should fully deplete it before recharging? Do you need extra hardware to charge inside car?
To keep the battery life up, make sure you charge the unit every 2-3 months, regardless of use. There is no need to fully deplete the battery before recharging it. No extra hardware is needed to charge the unit via the 12V adapter - Simply plug it in while the vehicle is running and charge as indicated in the manual.
do u have AC output voltage: 220 volts AC regards
The Power Dome EX has an AC output voltage of 115 volts AC (nominal).
Would it handle a 1/2 hsp sump pump for a couple of hours?
No, it would only be able to run for a very short time.
can 2 power domes be hooked togeather to put out 800 watts, and can it be recharged by the use of a bycicle powered generator (Pedal-A-Watt)?
No, you can't daisy-chain your Power Dome's together. If you had a pedal-operated machine that outputs 120V, then yes, you probably could recharge the Power Dome that way. You'd probably have to pedal a few thousand miles, though.
I'm looking for something to run my sump pump when the power goes out. Is this powerful enough to handle a standard sump pump for a day or two?
A sump pump is either 1/3 or 1/2 horsepower. The Power Dome EX is not powerful enough to handle a sump pump for a day.
How heavy is the Power Dome?
The Power Dome weighs about 20 lbs.
How much does the unit weigh?
The Power Dome weighs about 20 lbs.
Will it run a desk fan?
I'm sure it could.
Will it run a tv?
Assuming that the television is relatively small and consumes less than 400 watts, then yes, it will run a TV for a short period of time.
Am i able to just leave this in my car trunk all the time, even through extreme weather conditions?
To a certain extent, yes. The operating temperature range for the Power Dome EX is 0°C-40°C (32°F-100°F).
How long could I run a 45 watt guitar amplifier from this power dome?
Around 3 - 3.5 hours.
That is a beautiful piece of hardware.
Sure is!
Will this power dome run a blender for crushing ice or mixing a milkshake. Thanks, Julie
As long as the blender is 400 watts or less.
Is this an actual generator, or a portable power supply?
By "actual" generator, you're probably thinking of a generator that is powered by gasoline or natural gas. The Power Dome EX does not fall into that category.
Does the Power Dome get hot while charging or charging things with the power dome?
The Power Dome does not get noticeably hot. While charging it might feel slightly warmer than the air around it, but even then it's barely noticeable.
Is it possible to charge it with a solar panel?
Yes but we do not sell or carry a compatible solar panel. It is our understanding that the manufacturer offers such a thing separately.
Will it work with my electric tea kettle so I can french press coffee?
That shouldn't be a problem!
How do I charge it and how long does it last?
The PowerDome is charged by plugging it into a wall outlet and will hold a charge for up to four months.
If this had a hand crank or some on-board apparatus that could help re-charge it if there is no power available I'd get it. Why no hand crank?
Because then it would be an exceptionally larger, heavier, and more expensive piece of machinery. The Power Dome is meant to be a quick and easy battery backup for short periods of blackout. It's something you can leave with your grandmother that she can easily use without having to spend an eternity cranking it.
Could I connect that Pivot Power strip thing to the charger of the Power Dome in order to indefinitely charge it to run my Gameboy Advance in a power outage?
You can but there's no need to since it already has an AC outlet. Just plug the charger directly into the Power Dome.
Would this be a substitute for a UPS battery-backup system for my desktop computer? I want to have time to save my work and shut down if the power fails.
A UPS would be much more efficient and a lot more reliable. Bear in mind that this product was designed to power small electronics, not full-size desktop computers.
I understand that the "Operating temperature range: 0°C-40°C (32°F-100°F)," but what I want to know is will is jump start a dead battery if I keep it inside the house, fully charged, but outside is under 32°F?
I'm fairly certain it will. I think those temperatures are indicating the range at which the Power Dome can be used safely and effectively. If you just brought it outside from indoors, the temperature shouldn't be an issue.
Is the battery easily replaceable?
No, the battery cannot be replaced.
What consumer rating does this product have? Can the battery be replaced?
Based on what we've heard from our customers, very good. No, the battery cannot be replaced.
Can it pump more than air ?
The built in compressor can only pump air.
Is this generator actually quality, or will it break down in a month. I was thinking about saving up for an expensive generator (like 1000$) because of power outages and bad storms (like hurricane irene), but should I get this instead?
The Power Dome is a great source of backup power, but it's not beefy enough to run your house for several days like you can with a gas-powered generator.
1)what's the catch to this product? 2)could you buy two and charge one with the other?
1) No catch. 2) No, the Power Dome EX needs to be charged using either a wall socket (AC) or a vehicle outlet (DC).
how much does it weigh?
About 20 pounds.
Does the power dome come with adapters to inflate bicycle tires or other small inflatables???
Yes, the Power Dome includes an air compressor that can inflate a variety of tires and inflatable equipment.
I have a Power Chair w/Charger for that chair. EX: I'm out in the "boonies." my chair battery needs temporary recharging. So, can I plug in one end of my power chair battery charger into the power dome and the other end into my Chair. Will it Work?
You can charge two things at once with the Power Dome EX, but the combined wattage cannot exceed 400 watts.
How long are the cables? Are there any adapters to make them longer? Thank you, Stubedoo
The cables are 42" from the PowerDome to the very end of the clip. The cable itself (not including the clip) is 38". Adapters for making the cables longer are not included with the PowerDome.
Since the battery's life span is 2-3 years, how does one get it replaced?
Although you can replace the Power Dome battery yourself, the manufacturer recommends taking it to a repair shop or an electronic store and having them do it for you. Please note that the one-year manufacturer's warranty would be voided if you change the battery yourself during that time period.
Hi, how long will this run 2 60Hz fans? Also, how long will it take to recharge this unit? Thanks, MJH
We need to know the wattage of the 2 fans in order to answer your first question. The time it takes to recharge after use will depend on how much the charge is depleted. For the first time use, charge the Power Dome for 36-48 hours. Every 3-6 months you need to charge the Power Dome again for at least 24 hours.
can it be piggy packed with a regular car battery for longer run times, as you would a power source in a rv, or small sailboat? Can it be charged by the cable wires via a car battery?
It can be charged by the car with the DC adapter. You would need to plug it into the cigarette lighter.
how long would it be able to perform 300Watt?
The manufacturer says that it could run for 3 months and that it would need to recharge for 2 days.
Does it work with other plugs for outlets from different countries?
Not without an adapter. The Power Dome was designed specifically for North American outlets.
Do you provide a version with Australian outlets?
We do not. The Power Dome is only available with North American outlets.
What are its measurements?
The Power Dome's dimensions are: 13" x 10.5" x 12.25"
Does the reverse polarity indicator always stay on or is there a switch that shuts it down?
The reverse polarity indicator is always on. You can find more information on it in the instruction manual we've uploaded here.
Does it come charged?
No, you will have to charge the PowerDome first.
How loud is the generator and how much does it weight? Would it be able to power a keyboard and amp for a decent amount of time?
It's less of a generator and more of a giant battery, so it doesn't make any noise at all. A laptop would run for a while, but adding an amplifier would drastically cut how long the PowerDome would supply a charge.
Is there a version with the Australian/New Zealand sockets and power points?
Not that we carry. Sorry!
Could I charge my power dome ex with solar panels?
You can, however the equipment necessary is not included.
Is it waterproof?
The Power Dome is relatively weatherproof, but the manufacturer suggests not allowing it to become excessively wet. In the event of rain, dry it off and try to put it somewhere dry. If your truck has a toolbox you could store it in there, but it is not recommended that it be left out in harsh weather.
Hi! I was wondering how long the battery would die while powering a 255 watt projector? The projector would also be hooked up to a Macbook Pro, but I'm not sure if that would add on to the wattage.
Pretty quickly, especially if it's powering the Macbook as well. You might be better off running an extension cord.
HI. Utilzing the generator for basic functions like running a medium size space heater in winter time, and phone charge, what would the average discharge time be before it would have to be recharged?
It will depend entirely on the power consumption of the device you plan on hooking up.
Can I use it to power up the whole house? (backfeeding an outlet)
I sincerely doubt it.
Will you find another generator like this that includes some solar capability? Would love this for the occasional camping trip.
Not at this time, but the PowerDome can be recharged with a solar panel which can be purchased separately. The manufacturer was able to charge the Power Dome battery (12V 18AH) from a solar panel that outputs 18V DC.
How long can this bad boy power a 100 watt guitar amp for? And what if I were to add a second 50 watt amp to that?
The Power Dome EX could power 150 watts for about 2 - 2.5 hours.
Where do I get the fan in the video?
That fan was discontinued several years ago. Sorry!
When using ac power on the generator is it a very loud noise source?
The Power Dome is completely silent.
Can it run a sump pump?
Not for long. Sump pumps draw a lot of power, and depending on the amount of water being pumped, the Power Dome might not be able to keep up.
is it water proof?
It's water resistant to a degree, but it is absolutely not waterproof. Ideally you will want it to be as dry as possible.
Can I plug my battery charger to it, and charge my boat battery ?
Are you referring to a phone or small electronic charger? If so, then yes!
Why is it called "generator"?
While not technically a generator, the Power Dome is used for the same purpose. The manufacturer must have felt that "battery" didn't convey the same intention.
In addition to jump starting a battery...can this unit "charge" a dead battery...a boat battery 12V?
It might be able to transfer a limited charge, but if the battery is truly dead then you might want to seek a replacement.
Can the Powerdome power one thing or muiltiple things and how long can this thing last durning a outage.
It can power multiple things. How long it lasts will depend on the amount of energy being used.
Can I use it as a car battery?
Not AS a battery, but you can use it to jump your existing battery if it has a weak charge.
Would this power a hd tv in a power outage?
Possibly. How long it lasts will largely depend on the size of the television. It likely won't be able to power your 55" 4K screen, but a little 12" screen would run for a while.
so can it be used in other countrys like EU.. correctly in croatia wher we have 240v 60hz AC, does it come whit difrent adapter end ports or it is just for USA?
The PowerDome was designed for North American use.
Will freezing temperatures harm my portable car battery charger?
Yes. The manufacturer recommends not storing your Power Dome in excessively hot/cold locations.
What voltage battery can the Power Dome Ex Compact Generator jump start? Can it only be used on a 12v battery? Or could it also be used to jump start a 6v riding lawnmower battery?
We've only ever tested a car, and the manufacturer claims that it was developed specifically for cars, so we cannot guarantee that it will work on a smaller battery.
Can I be charging from the 12v charger and use the two AC inverter outlets at the same time?
No. All ports must be in the "Off" position while the PowerDome is charging. This information, as well as any other specifics, are covered in the instruction manual.
This would fit on the dashboard, right?
Maybe a really large dashboard!
So the AC outlets are useless if you dont live in america and have a different Mains voltage and plug?
Not just the United States, but also Canada and Mexico. Sorry, but there are dozens of different outlet types all over the world and even within the EU; it's impossible to serve them all.
Can I leave it plugged in all the time?
No, never leave the Power Dome EX charging longer then the recommended amount of time. It will not overheat but it may damage the internal battery. The recommended initial charge time is 48 hours, uninterrupted. Subsequent charges should not exceed 38 hours.
Is the Power Dome EX Compact compatible with a UK Walsall Gauge plug that my country Singapore uses or must I get an adapter in order to charge this beast of a machine? (btw, love your site.)
Thanks! We cannot guarantee that the Power Dome will work properly (or safely) with an adapter in other countries.
does it come charged?
The Power Dome EX does will not arrive charged, and the manufacturer states that for a full charge you will need to let the Power Dome charge for a full 48 hours.
I just started a car with the power dome. I'm regharging it now. How do I know when it's fully recharged??
You can check the Battery Status Meter on the Power Dome. A reading of 12.6V DC and above indicates that the battery is fully charged.
how many hours this generator is good to run a 1/3 hp sump pump
In order to answer this question, we would need to know the wattage or amps and the peak surge.
is the power supply that charges this unit a 600mA or something else---the one that plugs into your household current to charge this unit???
Here are the technical specs for the AC adapter that comes with the Power Dome EX: Class 2 Power Supply Input: 120VAC 60Hz 24W Output: 12VDC 500mA Polarity: Positive center (Optional)
A fan runs continuously when powereing a 60W AC light. Will the fan run if I use a 12V DC light?
Yes. The fan you hear is a cooling fan that keeps the Power Dome from overheating, and it will run whether you are using the AC or DC outlets.
If i wanted to run say a 75 or 100 watt lightbulb how long would it last?
Assuming the lights were only continuously, the Power Dome would run these lights for probably 60-90 minutes.
Hi, does this have the option to have plugs for UK users? Thanks :)
We're afraid not. Sorry!
Is the battery like lithium or does it hurt the battery if it does not get a full charge?
The manufacturer recommends providing a full charge when charging. You may refer to the manual that we've provided for more information.
On the switch near the outlets, there are two on settings, one line and two lines. Whats the difference between the two?
This is covered in the included instructions.

“|” = Turns on USB ports and DC outlets
“O” = Turns Off
“||” = Turns on AC Inverter, USB ports, and DC outlets
Can it run an oxygen tank 50 lbs.for sick patient at home when power goes out due to storm. Does it have to left outside while running .Are there any fumes off it.
There are no fumes since it is essentially a giant battery. Unfortunately we can't give a precise answer to your question since we don't know what kind of power the oxygen tank requires, however it should be able to run the tank for a limited amount of time until you can get somewhere that does have power.
How can you tell if the car battery is truly dead?
If absolutely nothing happens when you turn the key (no clicking, no lights) then it is completely dead. You can also test the battery with a voltage reader.
Does it need to be plugged into a ac outlet to be recharged. Or can it be recharged by plugging it into a dc outlet as in a car.
The Power Dome can be charged via AC or DC. You can download the PowerDome's instructions by clicking the link in the "Features and Specs" section or directly here.
Could this power the Lasko MyHeat Personal Ceramic Heater if it uses 200 watts? If it does it would be great if the power went out in the winter and you want something quiet.
It's possible, however it would only be able to supply power for about an hour.
Is it possible to get one that is usable in australia?
I'm sorry, but we only carry models which were designed for use in North America (Canada, The United States, and Mexico).
Is there a european version?
Not that we carry. Sorry!
Is the internal battery replaceable?
No, nor should it be attempted.
will this make a great thing for camping?
Yes! So many of the Power Dome's features are nice to have when camping.
I have been searching for a solution to power my BiPAP breathing device when the power goes out overnight in my apartment building. Do you think this would be an emergency solution?
Possibly, however we do not know what the energy requirements are for your apparatus. You may want to check with your physician for a better solution.
How heavy is this?
The Power Dome weighs about 20 lbs.
does it have warranty
The Power Dome EX comes with a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer.
Please explain why this is labeled a 'generator', when it is clearly not a generator.
Technically, you are correct. The Power Dome EX is run by battery and not any sort of gas, so in the strictest sense of the word, it is not a generator. However, in the sense that a generator is a discreet and portable source of power, it certainly fits the bill. Lastly, hey, that's what the manufacturer calls it!
can this power dome be left in a car for 3 days at 15 degree temperatures or will the battery drain from this power dome
The manufacturer tells us that it shouldn't be a problem. If it is continuously that cold, they recommend charging the Power Dome monthly rather then every three months. Also remember to keep checking the voltage meter. For best results, keep it the unit in your home.
Can it run a portable vacuum cleaner
We need to know the wattage of the vacuum in order to answer this question correctly. If it is over 400w, the Power Dome will not be able to run it.
HI can I use this on a Electric 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Snow Thrower yes? or not?
We need to know the full wattage (including peak wattage) of the snow thrower in order to provide an accurate answer. Normally these units demand higher than 1200 watts. If this is the case with yours, the 400-watt Power Dome will not power the unit.
what are the dimensions, weight and size?
The Power Dome EX is 12" in length, 12" in height, and 9" in width. It weighs about 20 lbs.
can you charge your laptop when you are charging it?
Yes, you can charge a device while charging the Power Dome EX Compact Generator. However, the manufacturer does not recommend doing this since it could have an effect on the battery.
Power supply is broken were to find replacement
You would need to contact the manufacturer for assistance with that.
Can I use the power dome to power my standing fan and if so for how long?
You likely can, however the duration will depend on how much energy it requires to function.
since its a lead-acid battery(like the one in your car), once it dies isn't it unusable?
Yes, but we're talking about a timescale that would extend into many, many years. This is an emergency device, not something that would be used all of the time.
For how long can I run my computer of 90w?
I don't have a precise amount of time since the power consumption can fluctuate depending on what you're doing on the laptop. Sorry!
Can it charge an Xbox or Ps3 ?
Neither system can be charged, but it might be able to run them for a short period of time.
Is it possible to re-charge the device and use it at the same time. IE, could I plug the DC charger into my car, and use the inverter to run an AC device?
No. The instructions are pretty clear about making sure the Power Dome is turned completely off before attempting to charge.
Can I run a portable dvd player off of this and if so how long could I play it?
It depends on how many watts your DVD player can consume in an hour. We don't have an exact number for you.
Can I use this for outdoor photoshootings with two Elinchrom BX 500 Ri (500ws) monobloc flash lights?
If the flash lights are over 400w, then no, the Power Dome EX cannot power them. Trying to do so will damage the inverter.
could it run a sump pump in an emergancy
We would need to know the wattage of the sump pump in order to answer this question accurately.
what are the 3 positions on the inverter switch
If you push the switch to the right or to the left, it will turn the inverter on. If you leave the switch in the middle, that is the off position.
Can the unit jump start a 8 cylinder vehicle?
Yes, the Power Dome EX Compact Generator can jump start an 8-cylinder vehicle.
Can I use my 1500 watts rice cooker with this if storm causes power to go out?
No, the Power Dome could not power a 1500-watt rice cooker. The Power Dome has a 400-watt inverter.
It has 600 amps of cranking power. How much of peak power does it have?
The Power Dome has an 800-watt peak surge. Its sustained wattage is 400.
Can I use this for my desk lamp?
As long as your desk lamp uses a standard AC or DC outlet, you can use the Power Dome EX to power it. Also note that the Power Dome EX can power USB devices. So, if you've got a USB Desk Lamp, the Power Dome EX can power that as well.
I have a 130 amp 110 volt portable arc welder that keeps blowing out the wall outlets, it's portable and I need a portable power source, will it work?
Perhaps, though it might not last for too long. It's difficult to estimate how well something like that will work without actually having it in hand.
How much does it weigh?
The Power Dome weighs about 20 lbs.
I will need to use this generator about 24 hrs after receiving it. Will that be enough time to charge it so that it will run a very small sound system w/ a wireless mic for an hour? Does it need to be fully charged before its first use?
Per the manufacturer, the Power Dome needs to be charged for a full 48 hours before the first use. Every charge after that will take up to 38 hours. That being said, the unit does arrive with some charge. We believe (although we can't say for certain) that a 24-hour charge will be sufficient for your application.
I can buy a 100 watt heater. How long would it last with the power? I don't need an insane amount of heat, but if the temp in my tiny apt drops below a certain level, I would like to at warm it SOME.
Honestly, the Power Dome EX is probably not your best bet. It can run items that are 100 watts, but heaters are a different story, since their peak surge can be 10x their wattage. This puts them beyond the Power Dome's capability.
Why does it cost more for the "Economy" world-wide shipping but less for the priority world-wide shipping?
Shipping costs are determined by weight. Economy Int'l and the other methods have their own standards when it comes to determining prices.
How long does a full charge last?
That depends on the wattage of the devices you plan on hooking up to it. When not in use, the battery can hold a charge for 4 months.
Can I plug some things into this (EX a laptop charger) and use it while its charging?
Yes, you can run small electronics off the Power Dome.
How much does it weigh?
The Power Dome itself weighs about 18 pounds.
How long will the generator last if it is only powering one item at a time when the power is out. Say a ventilator for breathing.
It all depends on the wattage of the item you are powering.
Are there extra batteries with this product?
No, the Power Dome EX Compact Generator does not come with extra batteries.
What is the difference of ac and dc?
AC stands for alternating current and DC stands for direct current. You can look up the differences on Google, but to put it simply, AC is what comes from your mains and DC is what comes from a battery.
Will this be able to run a sump pump?
It depends completely on the size of your sump pump, so I'm afraid I don't have an exact answer.
Could it run a 10" fan AND if so, for how long?
We need to know the wattage of the fan in order to answer this question accurately.
what is the weight of power dome
The Power Dome itself weights about 18 pounds.
Can I charge this with a solar battery charger using a DC plug?
If your DC charging cable is plugged into the solar battery charger it should be able to work. However, our manufacturer can't determine how long it will take to charge it or guarantee how sustainable the charge will be.
Many jump boxes with air compressors have a limited continuous run time of ~10 mins. Does the Power Dome EX have any run time limits?
The Power Dome EX Compact Generator has a run time limit of about 1 hour for the air compressor.

To a certain extent, yes. The operating temperature range for the Power Dome EX is 0°C-40°C (32°F-100°F).
Would this generator run my sump pump while power is out?
It depends completely on the size of your sump pump, so I'm afraid I don't have an exact answer.
What song did you play on the radio?
Sorry, but none of us have been able to identify it!
If I accidentally leave the Power Dome on and it is fully drained of power and I don't try to recharge it for 4-5 months, will it still be able to be recharged?
Unfortunately, no. The Power Dome must be charged every two to three months regardless of use. If you ever fully drain the battery, do your best to recharge it as soon as possible.
ha!most humorous site yet-hopefully the most appropriate one as well...i'm looking to run a 115v/60hz hot water dispenser for 3&1/2 hrs,4 days a week-is the power dome ex my answer?
We're glad you like our site! In order to answer your question, we would need to know how many amps or watts the dispenser draws.
If I wanted to use this as a generator during a power outage and since this does not run on gasoline how long is the battery life?
It depends entirely on what you're running and how many watts are being consumed.
how long takes the car battery to charge?
The Power Dome can jump start a car battery (not necessarily charge it). Usually this only takes a few minutes. If you're asking how long it takes to recharge the Power Dome itself, the answer to that is 36-48 hours for the initial charge (before you use it for the first time). After that, we suggest recharging the Power Dome for at least 24 hours every 3-6 months.
Would it be safe to use the generator and than press the battery check button while your charging something? So you can check the battery while your using it not just when it is idle.
The volt meter on the side of the Power Dome is in real time. It will always provide an accurate reading of how much power is left, even while charging another device.
OK, so i read it cannot run 2 250 watt bulbs, that makes sense. How long can it run a 40 watt CFG bulb, Also is there a list that shows what products it can run & how long?
Unfortunately, we are not aware of a table or chart that lists such information. But we can tell you that the Power Dome EX can run a 40-watt bulb for about 3 hours.
Will the Power Dome power a CPAP machine through the night?
This would depend on the wattage of the CPAP machine.
What is the gauge # of the cables?
The jumper cables on the Power Dome EX Compact Generator are #6.
Hi looking for something to charge trolling motor will this work?
This is difficult to answer without knowing some specifics of your trolling motor. Trolling motors come in three separate power systems (12, 24, or 36 volts) and use different types of batteries (car or marine batteries). If your trolling motor has a 12-volt car battery and the size is not too large, you can use the Power Dome to charge it. The Power Dome cannot charge a trolling motor with a 24 or 36-volt car battery.
how heavy is this product
The PowerDome EX weighs approximately 20 pounds.
Does it come included with extra fuses?
Extra fuses are not included with the Power Dome EX Generator.
can the power dome be used to power a 12volt winch, and if so for how long?
Yes, the Power Dome could run a 12V winch, provided that it doesn't require more than 400 watts of power. How long it would last is based upon the amperage drawn, which could only be calculated if both the watts and volts are known.
re: standard power dome item #2354 (not EX model). need spec's on ac charger adapter (model #, voltage, current). Also, is there an on line owners manual on the 2354 dome I can down load?
We do not carry the standard Power Dome #2354, so unfortunately we cannot provide specs or an owner's manual for that item.
Can I charge a powerdome with a powerdome?
No, the Power Dome EX needs to be charged using either a wall socket (AC) or a vehicle outlet (DC).
