Answer: The Glaciercore will keep your Slushee in that perfectly slushed state for up to two hours.

Question: How does it work?
Answer: The patented non-toxic refrigerant sealed inside the Glaciercore lowers the temperature of the beverage to 34ºF. At this temperature, the ingredients in the drink crystallize and turn the drink into a Slushee. Unlike ice, the Slush Mug won't water down your drink.
Question: Why couldn't I just add a bunch of ice to my drink and blend it?

Why does it have to be a "non-diet" beverage?
For some reason, artificially sweetened beverages do not slush as well as naturally sweetened ones. If you're looking to avoid high sugar content, you can try coffee or chocolate milk slushees.

Sorry, artificially sweetened drinks just don't have the sugar content required to make a slushee. These kinds of drinks will result in hard ice rather than a full-bodied slush.
What type of plastic is used to make the Slush Mug Glacier core? (is it BPA free)?
LDPE plastic is used in the Glaciercore. It is BPA-free.
what is the "super freezing refrigerant" inside the glacier core?
The freezing refrigerant inside of the Glaciercore is made of a secret formula (which the manufacturer does not disclose) that is patented.

We don't see why not. A sweet tea with lotsa sugar would be delish.
I understand that artificial sweeteners won't work, but what about natural ones like Stevia? Could this be substituted for sugar in something like lemonade to make a lower-calorie slushie?
Neither Vat19 nor the manufacturer have tried to make a slushie using Stevia, so we can't say how that would work out.
If I were to use an energy drink like Red Bull or Monster, would the ginseng and other things that give the drink that kick still be intact if I used the energy drink in The Slush Mug?
The Slush Mug will not alter the ingredients of the drink. However, we have not tested the Slush Mug with an energy drink, so we don't know how slushy it will get.

You can use any kind of spoon you like! You could even use the front-loader spoon from our Constructive Eating Utensil Set (wink, wink).

why wont it work with artifically falvored stuff?
Drinks with artificial sweeteners do not yield the same soft, full-bodied slush that you'd get with a naturally-sweetened drink. This doesn't mean you have to use a drink with high sugar content such as soda. You can also try chocolate milk or coffee slushees!
The slush mug works on sunny D and koolaid. But, it doesn't work on soda. I tried everything but it still doesn't work. Why?
Are you using diet soda? Diet drinks do not work well in the Slush Mug because they don't contain sugar, and sugar is what helps create a full-bodied slushee. We've used the Slush Mug with root beer and coca cola with awesome results.
Can it work with chocolate milk , to make something like ice cream?
You could make a slushee with chocolate milk, but it would not be the same consistency as ice cream. We made one with Frappuccino and it was delicious!
Is there possible way to make the slushee last for more than 2 hours?
Once the core is frozen solid, it is as frozen as it will get. Unfortunately we aren't able to break the laws of physics to extend a slushee's lifespan.
Can this work on rice water? Or tamarind water?
Sorry, neither Vat19 nor the manufacturer have tested these types of water with the Slush Mug. Keep in mind that the beverage needs to be naturally sweetened to work properly.
I'm on a weight loss program and I used things like crystal light. I understand that you can't use anything with artificial sweetners (why is that?), but can I freeze water and stir the powder?
Natural sugar is what makes the slushie soft and full-bodied. Water alone, or water with artificial sweeteners, will freeze too tightly in the Slush Mug, and you'll end up with something much more icy, rather than slushy.
Why won't it work with diet soda...is their anything I can do
You probably could use a diet soda in the Slush Mug, but be warned that it will not yield great results. The slush will be much more hard and icy, rather than the soft, full-bodied slush you would get using a naturally sweetened drink. For some reason, it's the sugar that yields a great slushee.
Can you make a slushie with just water so its kinda like snow?
Not really. Drinks with sugar content yield the most full-bodied slushees in the Slush Mug. Plain water would tighten up too much and become just icy. If you want snow, though, check out our Insta-Snow. You can create realistic-looking "snow" in just seconds!
If I put white milk it it, would it be like vanilla ice cream?
No. Ice cream isn't made out of just milk, so you'd end up with a milk slushee.
Can I make a slushee out of booze?
Yes.
What happens if you stick your finger up against the Glaciercore and hold it there?
It would get extremely cold and if your finger was wet, it could freeze to it. Why would you want to do that anyway?
does it work on soup?
It would depend on the soup. For example, a tomato or cream soup should work since milk-based products work well in the Slush Mug. However, we don't know why you'd want cold, slushy soup!

Yes, there is an instruction sheet that also includes some delicious slushee recipes.
If I put a cup of coke in the freezer, it will freeze solid into a block of ice. Why is it that the slush mug will turn it into slush instead?
The Slush Mug crystallizes sugar rather than freezing it.
How long do you have to stir?
After you pour your beverage into the Slush Mug's frozen Glaciercore, you'll want to stir it every 2-3 minutes until you reach the desired slush consistency. For us, this took about 6 minutes.
Can you use Strawz to drink it? Or do you have to let it melt a bit?
Drinking your slushee with a straw is possible, but we'd rather use a spoon. To making using a straw easier, you could let it melt a little.

The Glaciercore needs to be completely frozen to make an awesome slushee in just minutes. Just keep it in your freezer and whenever you have a slushee craving you'll be able to make one quickly!
When you say coffee slushee, do you mean pouring in coffee, or pouring in the ready-made frappaccino glass bottles from Starbucks? Frappaccino slushee sounds good:)
We tried it with one of the Starbuck's bottled Frappuccinos and it worked well. You can use regular coffee, but you'll need to let it cool first and add cream and sugar. The more cream you add, the better the slushee.
does coke count as an artificially sweetened drink?
No. A regular Coke will make a delicious slush! A diet Coke, on the other hand, will not be as successful.

Yes, you can make a milk (or even better, chocolate milk!) slushees.

A big straw may work, but for us a spoon works best.

No, it won't explode. It just won't slush as nicely. It'll be more like hard ice crystals rather than a soft slush.

Cool about our phone number and your birthday! But not cool about removing the refrigerant from the Slush Mug Glaciercore. Please do not pierce or intentionally break the Glaciercore in order to remove the refrigerant. It's non-toxic, but it would be messy and just not good.
would it work with green tea? such as the brand Arizona Green Tea?
As long as the green tea drink has natural sugar it should slush up nicely.
i am not familiar with 12 oz , is that 2 liters? and can i make less , for example if i don't want to make a full one and have leftovers.
12 oz is the size of a can of soda here in the United States. A liter is approximately 34 oz. You do not have to pour in all 12 oz.
My sister-in-law who lives with us is pregnant and sick with a fever. Can I put water in this and make sure she drinks it soon, so as it EXTRA cold. Because when i was observing the slushifying process, it took a little while for the slush to form.
Some slush will start to form right away, so she can eat the slush as it forms. A full slush takes about 5-7 minutes to form.
The Slush Mug reminds me of an ice-less ice cream machine, those machines don't make ice cream well but make great frozen yogurt. Does it seem like this might be the case for the Slush Mug?
The Slush Mug makes great slushees! It is not going to make an airy Slurpee or Icee-like consistency though.

Leaving your Slush Mug in the freezer will not harm the mug or the Glacier Core. In fact, we recommend that you leave your Slush Mug in the freezer so that it will always be ready to go when you want a slushed drink.

You should be able to fit just about an entire can of soda (12 oz).

The GlacierCore holds 12 ounces of liquid. However, it can't physically house a soda or beer can. So, while the liquid contents of a 12 oz can of soda or beer will fit inside the GlacierCore, the can itself will not. Basically, the GlacierCore is a little thinner and a little taller than a standard soda can.

Microwaving your Slush Mug could very well ruin it and possibly your microwave. There is no need to microwave it, so we strongly caution you against it.

Your soda does not have to be cold, but a cold soda will make a slushee a little faster than a room temperature soda.

Because ice (which will eventually start to melt and water down the drink) is not added to your beverage. The core freezes your beverage enough to make it slushy.

I found a gas station that sells slushies in a large size for cheaper than this. I also don't have to buy drinks and have to wait 6 hours and then another 6 minutes to make one. I also love using the machine why should i buy this?
Because you only have to buy the Slush Mug once. You have to buy the slushies at the gas station over and over again, therefore spending more money in the end.

You could make a slush and then put it in the freezer so it gets even harder. The manufacturer recommends pouring the slush out of the Slush Mug. You'd have to check on it so that it doesn't freeze solid like a popsicle though.

It's best to stir the drink occasionally to speed up the slushing process.

If you make juices from concentrate (frozen in a can) they should work just fine. You would just need to make the juice and pour it into the Slush Mug. We don't think using the solid "chunk" of juice concentrate would work very well!
I bought the cup and I tried making the slushy. I placed my glaciercore in the freezer for 6 hours, the i poured Coke into it. I tried stirring the Coke for a few minutes but it didn't work. Why?
This is almost always because the freezer wasn't cold enough. Make sure that your freezer is set to at least -10F.
Is the coke (coca-cola) slushee tasty? Or it get's mostly water?
It tastes great! I'm not sure how it'd be mostly water since you're not adding ice.
Is there any chemical's in the glaciecore I should no about.
No. The refrigerant is perfectly safe and completely non toxic.
What's the point in this, when you can just freeze a drink in a freezer-safe container then stir it to crush it a little?
I'm a little surprised that this question is as common as it is. Your method would require waiting for the soda to freeze, which would take a few hours. The slush mug would ALREADY be frozen since you're supposed to keep it in the freezer. This means that you would only have to wait a few minutes for the mug to slush your drink.
Will it work with sweet tea?
Theoretically it should. Any non-alcoholic drink that is made with sugar should slush.
Why can't I just buy a pop, put it in the freezer for 3 and a half hours, take it out then shake it. That makes an instant slushie too.
Not only is three and a half hours not instant, but putting a soda in the freezer would likely cause it to explode.
Is it hard to get the core out the outside part when done using it?
It's a tight fit but I wouldn't say it's difficult by any means.

Sure. Just make sure that the juice has some amount of natural sugar in it (most do).
How long will it last?
With proper care, the Slush Mug should last basically forever.
The only natural sweetener I can think of is sugar. What if someone has diabetes and needs to keep their sugar at a minimum? Are there any no- to low-sugar drinks that work nicely for the Slush Mug?
Not that we're aware of. Part of living with a disease like diabetes is learning to live without certain things. This may sound insensitive, but there simply isn't any way to create a sugar-free slushy with the Slush Mug.
Will fruit juices work? After all, most juices are naturally sweet, but I don't know if that will freeze the same as added sugar.
Most fruit juices will work as they naturally contain sugar.
My slush mug only makes slushies if the drink poured into the core are cold too. Is this normal?
Yes, that is normal. Warm or hot drinks may not slush properly (if at all).
What if you add Xylitol to water? Will it work?
We haven't tried xylitol, but it is a naturally occurring sugar so it may work.

Water won't really slush well. It'll freeze, but it will be more like icy shards rather than soft slush.
Could you put in coffee from Starbucks?
If it has a LOT of sugar in it, sure! Sugar is the most important part of the slushing process; without it, you'll just end up with a cold drink.
Its not instant if you have to put it in the fridge for 6 hours. What if I want more than one cup of slush.
When you want ice cubes, do you make a whole new tray or do you make them ahead of time? Simply leave the GlacierCore in the freezer and it will always be ready to go. No one expects you to completely thaw it out and start over again each time you want a slush.

If you've included an appropriate amount of sugar, yes.
I bought this and apparently this only works on cold drinks cause the first time i used it it was with a warm drink and it didnt work the second with a cold drink and it worked. Is this normal ?
Yes, actually it is. Obviously it's going to take more energy to bring a warm drink down to freezing than a drink that is already cold.

Only drinks that are naturally sweetened with sugar will slush. Diet sodas and other artificially sweetened drinks will not slush because the artificial sweetener does not freeze the same way as natural sugar. Also, any drinks with relatively high alcohol contents will not slush due to their very low freezing point.

The Glacier Core is very difficult to break. Even if you did somehow manage to crack it, the contents are non-toxic.

No. By the time the gummy was cool enough to be slushed it would simply re-solidify.

A White Russian (my favorite, by the way) is made with Kahlua, vodka, cream and ice. You can use milk instead of cream, but it's not nearly as good.

Why can't you put in diet drinks?

It's definitely worth a shot! A can of soda, which is 12 ounces, usually has about 39 grams of sugar in it. That seems like a pretty good amount to start experimenting with.

Juice should work, but you might want to add a little sugar to your juice to better facilitate the slushing process.

Make sure that your drink is sweetened with natural sugar. You will also want to scrape the sides of the GlacierCore occasionally to allow the rest of the liquid to come into contact with the GlacierCore.

Nope, you just push it down. The mug securely holds the core, so it does fit snugly.

It could be the freezer. Assuming you're stirring the drink properly, if you freezer isn't set to -10 Fahrenheit, it may take longer for the Glacier Core to become cold enough, if it all.

While Capri Sun does have sugar, it's about 1/3 the amount as soda, so it might not slush as quickly or as well.

That wouldn't be possible. If the gummy is hot enough to melt it's also hot enough to thaw the GlacierCore. Even if it DID work the only thing that would happen is the gummy becoming solid again.

No. Alcohol has a much lower freezing temperature than sugar water. This is why you can stick a bottle of whiskey or vodka in the freezer and it will never become solid.

It's impossible to slush hot drinks in the Slush Mug. The hot drink would thaw the Glacier Core.
Is it OK if I leave the Glaciercore in the freezer for over 6 hours or even a day or more? Will the slushee still be awesome?
It may not affect your slushy, but leaving your GlacierCore in the freezer at all times ensures that it is always ready to go when you want a slushy.
Can you drink the slushies from a straw or do you have to use a spoon?
Spoon, straw, or heck, pour it straight into your mouth. Just watch out for brain freeze!

Probably not. Snow cones are simply cups of shaved ice with flavored syrup on them. A slushy is actually a type of frozen drink.

Milk will slush up. It's actually very similar to milkshake.

Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners which do not crystallize the same way as naturally sweetened drinks.

Because vodka has an incredibly low freezing temperature, much lower than what can be reached with a conventional freezer. This makes it un-slushable.
My sweetener of choice is Stevia. a plant with small green leaves said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar. I buy pure stevia in bulk powder form. There is no other "booster" sweetner added. Will the Slush Mug work?
Neither Vat19 nor the manufacturer have tried to make a slushie using Stevia, so we can't say how that would work out.

If you're quick, you might be able to get a second slush out of the Slush Mug. Still, even if you have to refreeze the Glacier Core, it shouldn't take the full 6 hours to refreeze if it is still pretty cold.
Will it work with gatorade
Gatorade should work as long as it is a sweetened version.

Not at all. You may store your GlacierCore either in the freezer or in the cupboard. There is no need to keep it cold all the time.

Diet sodas don't work because sugar is essential to the slushing process and diet sodas possess none. Yes, we do offer shipping to the UK. Freezing a drink and blending it doesn't always work, especially with syrup based sodas. When frozen, the syrup tends to separate from the carbonated water which just makes a gooey mess.
